Work Text:
When Theo tripped and fell right on the sidewalk, Tommy's heart started thundering in his chest. He wasn't surprised when his son immediately burst into tears. He rushed to Theo's side and immediately started fussing over him. "Are you okay?" he asked.
"Hurts," Theo sobbed.
"I know, kiddo. Let's go take care of you." He gently scooped him up and headed inside to the kitchen. Placing Theo on the counter and warning him to stay there, Tommy went to grab the first aid kit in the hallway. He rushed back to the still crying Theo's side. He used a rag to wipe the blood off of Theo's skinned knees and then applied antiseptic, which only made the toddler cry harder.
"Hurry up," Theo urged.
Tommy snorted, shrugging innocently when Theo glared at him. He was not immune to the bratty side of the Buckley boys, sue him. "Sorry, bud." Once he was sure the scrapes were only minor, Tommy put band-aids on his knee. "There we go!"
Theo flashed him a tearful smile. "Thanks, Tommy."
"You're welcome!" Tommy grinned at him, kissed his forehead, and then picked him up off the counter before placing him on the floor.
Shaking off his minor injuries, Theo bolted to his bedroom. Tommy sighed in relief, glad he could handle a five year old on his own. He'd never live it down if he couldn't.
He texted his boyfriend to give him a heads up and then joined Theo in his bedroom. "Hi!"
"Hi. Can we play with your fire truck together?" Tommy questioned.
"Yes!"
Tommy imitated sirens, making Theo laugh, and the two of them sat there together until Evan came home half an hour later. "Are my boys doing okay after a rough start?"
Theo gasped. "Buck! You're home!" He stood up and rushed into Evan's open arms.
"I missed my guys. Good day, aside from the fall?" Evan checked.
"Absolutely," Tommy assured him after a quick kiss.
"Sounds great to me! We'll order some pizza and then get settled in for the rest of the day. How does that sound?"
Tommy and Theo exchanged a glance, both nodding at him. Evan laughed. "You two are eerily alike."
"Could say the same about you, Evan."
Theo tugged on their shirts. "Come on, let's go," he whined.
"You heard the kid. Let's go," Evan teased.
Tommy kissed him again, and the three of them headed out to the kitchen so they could place their order.
Tommy couldn't wait to marry Evan soon and officially adopt Theo together. This was his family, and he was so excited to see the person Theo grew up to be. Maybe he'd even be a big brother someday soon but baby steps. They had plenty of time for lots of stuff.
