Chapter Text
Jade sat down, looking over as snow fell outside. It was quite heavy.
“Do you think we should get groceries soon?” Jade asked, looking over at Mona, who sat next to the fireplace on the ground.
“Hm…how much is it snowing?” Mona asked, looking over at the window.
“Pretty bad. I can’t see much beyond the white.”
“Oh.”
“…”
“…”
“Let’s just stay inside. After all, we should have enough.”
Mona looked back towards the fireplace, watching the flames go up and down. Jade went back to their book, flipping the page they were on.
Mona walked over silently, before walking behind Jade and resting their head on the chair, reading along with the book.
“You do realize starting a book in the middle of it isn’t necessarily going to help you to understand what’s happening. And stay near the fire, you’ll get cold.”
“Pft—I’m fine,” Mona pecked a kiss onto Jade’s cheek, smiling, “Besides, this is the perfect angle for kisses.”
Jade laughed, a blush forming on her face. Mona kissed her again, and again, pecking small kisses all over her face. They continued, one hand snaking around and grabbing Jade’s chin, turning her face.
Mona kissed Jade’s lips, softly. The way they always did. Intimate, gentle, and loving. So, so loving. They could practically feel the other’s love, surging from vein to vein and each heart beat they shared.
Mona pulled away first, both of them having a light, flustered smile on their faces. No matter how many times they kissed, it always felt like their first kiss.
Eventually, Jade found herself sitting on the ground as well, next to the fireplace as Mona leaned against her side.
“What time should we put up Christmas decorations?” Jade asked, looking over as Mona sprang right back up.
“We could do it now! Not like there’s anything else happening!” Mona was instantly up, walking over to their laundry room, where they kept the decorations.
Jade put her book down on the coffee table, looking over at the hall as Mona toddled back over with a large black box in their arms.
They never were much of a decorative household, but it was fun every once in a while. Mona opened the box to ornaments, stockings, even clothes!
Jade pulled out a reindeer headband, giggling as she placed it on Mona’s head.
“How do I look?” Mona asked, posing with their hands under their chin.
“Cute. Like a small puppy.”
“What!?”
The two laughed again. Mona pulled out around five stockings, looking at each one.
“Hm. Which ones match the most?” Mona asked, showing Jade the stockings.
“The tree and the stars, it’s like the night sky! It’s pretty.”
“Just like you~.”
Mona put the other stockings away, leaving the two chosen ones on the ground next to the box.
Mona continued to dig through the box, pulling out five ornaments.
“Why do we even have these? We don’t ever get a tree.”
“For the future.” Jade answered, patting Mona on the head.
“,,,,”
Mona put the ornaments carefully on the other side of the box before pulling out a small wreath.
“I’ll go hang that on the door.” Jade plucked it from Mona’s grasp and was already walking away. Mona quickly followed behind.
Jade opened the door of their apartment, simply putting the wreath on the doorknob.
“Noooo, we have to hang it!” Mona whined, to which Jade only laughed lightly.
“We don’t have enough supplies for that, and I know you know.”
Mona grumbled, though lightheartedly, and stepped back inside, grabbing onto Jade’s hand.
“We should go on a date when there’s less snow outside.” Mona mumbled, already yawning.
“Yeah? And go ice skating, like last year?”
“Oh please! We were both bad and you know that!”
Jade smiled at the memory, Mona couldn’t let go of the wall barrier at all.
“A hot chocolate date wouldn’t be bad…” Mona suggested, to which Jade hummed in agreement. She had to admit, that did sound pretty good.
“Well, we can continue with these decorations tomorrow?”
Mona only nodded in agreement, already walking over to their bedroom. Jade followed and walked into the room after Mona. Mona plopped down onto the bed, lying onto their back as they looked up at the ceiling fan that spun around and around. Jade noticed the look on Mona’s face.
“What’re you thinking about?” Jade asked, sitting onto the bed as well, her back leaning against the headboard.
“…the future.”
“That’s a broad idea, y’know, anything specific?”
“Just…about us.”
“Ah, I see. Planning to break up so soon?”
“What!? No, no!!”
The two stared at each other, both with wide eyes.
“…I’m sorry. That was a lame joke.”
“…joke.”
“Yeah. My bad.”
The two continued to stare at each other, their breaths syncing.
Mona moved, hugging Jade lightly. Jade hugged them back.
“I would never leave you.” Mona muttered, their head resting on Jade’s shoulder.
“…I know. I love you.”
“…I love you too.”
Mona pulled back before resting back on their back, their head now lying on Jade’s lap.
“Sooo, what WERE you thinking about?”
“…Just, us. As an old married couple. Can’t hear each other, porch rocking chairs.”
“That’s be lovely.” Jade replied, smiling softly as Mona giggled. There was no stopping the blush creeping up Mona’s cheeks. The two of them, forever and ever.
Against the world, as it always has been.
Their love was kryptonite, able to defeat the most powerful thing alive. And the greatest thing was that it didn’t NEED to defeat anything, it only needed to be. So it did.
The two fell asleep tangled with the other and their heart beats intertwined even in sleep.
