Work Text:

It was the day before opening day for the new museum, and Tronalds new friend, who worked at the museum, had invited him to a special preview of it. To be frank, tronald was not the biggest fan of said friend, and had had no intention on accepting the invitation. But his then partner had encouraged him to “broaden his horizons.” He has dumped said partner since then. Although he was going to decline, he decided against it. He knew he needed the friend, since Nutip was his only one, though that will be changed very soon. He could only hope that he would not be needing to visit a certain section of the museum, because it might bring up bad memories, and Tronald did not want that.
When he arrived, Nutip had come out to greet him and introduced him to the group he was to tour the museum with, he had said something along the lines of “you need more friends” and “I can’t be your only friend.” So that how tronald got stuck with a group filled with a bunch of weirdos. Half of the members where university students, who had somehow gained access to the museum - and willingly came and the other half was filled with some historian wannabes, clutching their clipboards, eagerly waiting to be let in. One specific member who’d caught tronalds eye was a sickly looking man, was staring daggers into tronald, all the while, spewing some nonsense about some trait of mermuz – whatever that means.
As the tour started, it turned out to be exactly what Tronald had expected of it. Down. Right. Boring. The tour had been going on for just over an hour, and they had only explored around a quarter of the museum due to his group spending a minimum of thirty minutes on each section, claiming it was needed for their research papers. Which, might Tronald add, was so obviously a lie, for when he was in community college, he never needed to do a research paper, and he still able beat two out of three hundred and sixty eight pupils in his class! That’s a major improvement from his rank as last during his high school years.
Just after coming out of the ancient Egypt section, they where already arriving at the Ancient Greece sector, which for a reason unbeknownst to him, was bustling with people.
Tronald simply couldn’t believe that Ancient Greece was that fascinating! He knows that people can have different interests to him, that was probably the first thing he learnt in the modern world, when he first found out women could speak their mind now, he was utterly perplexed. Only men should have the right to speak! It was unfair! He held already brought the matter to the president, but for some reason, he was jailed for hate crime – whatever that is. But he digresses.
Truth be told, there is a little secret that Tronald has been keeping from everyone. A secret only between him, and the mighty god of this realm. For Tronald has been living in this wretched world for well over a millennium living through the creation and the demise of dozens of civilisation. From the vikings, all the way to the world he lives in today. He has lived as hundreds of people across his, for he’s been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king. He’s been up and down and over and out, he’s been in the trenches of WW1 and a nail tech living in Seattle, and in all between all those lives, his memory of his first ever, has started to fade. He recalls being a noble man.. yes, yes, a noble man living in Ancient Greece was it not? He had had a plethora of “friends”, all vying to use him for is money or influence – sometimes even both.
Tronald had been wandering around the Ancient Greece section for quite some time now, none of the artefacts really caught his eye, he was to busy checking his watch every couple of minutes, just counting the seconds, waiting for this to be over. Until, a statue caught his eye. It was of a short, pudgy looking man, with a constipated look on his face. One second, he was staring at a statue in an overcrowded museum, and in the next, he was staring at the statue… but the statue was no longer a statue, for it had turned into a human.
It was an early morning in August, and the cool breeze was dancing though the air. Laying underneath a tree, was a young man, who seemed to be asleep.
Then, a noise cut through the silence.
“Tronald! Wake up! it’s already early morning and you have stuff to do today”
The boy groggily woke up as he heard the sounds of his mother calling out to him
“Coming!” Exclaimed the boy as he sat up against the tree
The boy – also know as Tronald, rushed back to his estate to ready himself for the day ahead. It was now noon, and Tronald is now sincerely regretting taking a nap under the tree. How stupid of him to do that, he still has piles and piles of paperwork to complete, and they all happen to be due either tomorrow or the day after. He had been already been running late to the assembly, when he knocked over some random civilian, and being the kind soul he is, he helped him up.
And he was gorgeous, in the last, Tronald had lived a life of debauchery, but one look at this gorgeous, middle aged man, had Tronalds heart beating so hard, that he was convinced you could hear it from the depths of the Mariana Trench. In fact, he was so in love with the man in front of him, Tronald would be willing to settle down for this man, as friends of course.
Unbeknownst to Tronald, while all this is going down, his “friends” have already been made aware of this new development, and they seem to be placing bets. Tronald has been stalking, the man who he had recently bumped into for a while now. It had been a week since the bet between Tronald and his friends had been made, and Tronald had been trying his best not to burst out crying since it was made. Truly, he hadn’t wanted to take the bet, but, a bit of peer pressure can go a long way. Why did tronald care anyways, he didn’t actually care about him, he was just some random stranger that he happened to bump into in the middle of the street, who his friends happened to think was bet worthy. It was just a bet, and if Tronald manages to get him to fall in love with him, he would earn a pot of drachma. And Tronald REALLY wants that pot of drachma.
It’s been a couple months since Tronald had engaged with the target, who he recently, had found out that the mysterious strangers name was Cill. In Tronalds humble opinion, he thought he was doing great. He had already taken Cill on a multitude of dates, and Tronald could just taste the sweet smell of victory. But over the course of this relationship, it somehow started to feel….. real. Tronalds heart was actually pounding now. Not in the fake way he felt when he first met Cill, but in a special, more meaningful way.
Before Tronald even knew it, the deadline was drawing closer and closer by the day. And with every passing day, Tronald was growing fonder and fonder of Cill. Not in a way you’d describe a child, no. In a way you’d describe your closest friend. To be frank, he himself had no intention of ever ending this friendship, he would take the money and run away, hiding away in his estate for the rest of his life. But he knew he couldn’t do that. He had duties to fulfill, a mother to take care of, for he was the breadwinner after all. When the day had finally arrived, Tronald had been prepared for what was about to come.
It had gone completely. Wrong. First and foremost, Tronald did not receive the money, which did upset Tronald deeply, and secondly, somehow, Cill had managed to overhear the conversation, and was now ignoring Tronald, even after all his pleadings. Tronald had no idea what to do, so he decided to plead for forgiveness at Cills very own home.
“Go away Tronald !”
“No. Not until you give me a chance to explain myself” tronald was on his knees at this point, begging for a chance to explain.
“What is there to explain? You where in it for the money, weren’t you.”
“No please let me -.”
“NO! Please educate me, Tronald. What is there to explain. Everyone in Greece knows of your, money hungry self. You would sooner give up your life then to give up your wealth, so please enlighten me, what is there to explain.” Cill dragged his fingers through his glossy locks in frustration. “I don’t even know why I let myself fall, for you. I should’ve known better then this to trust the men of this civilisation. You’re all the same. I should’ve known that, even if you love me to the gods and back, I would never be your priority, you’ll always love money more then me, and that’s a fact.”
That was the last thing Cill had ever said to Tronald before walking away, and for the first time in his life, Tronald was speechless. He knew that he loved money, but he always thought it was to a certain degree, but now, it was clear to Tronald, Cill, had helped open his eyes to the issue, and it was clear to Tronald what he needed to do. Tronald seriously doubted that Cill will ever talk to him again, but he knew that he still needed to do this, for the sake of his poor mother, he owed at least that much to her.
As the years passed, Tronald had realised something, his face no longer gained wrinkles, his hair seemed to forever stay the same colour as the days of his youth. He had come to the startling realisation, that he had seemed to be cursed with a fate much worse than death, immortality.
“They never could get his face right”
