"thank you for coming here on such short notice, it was probably a suprise to you" godo's hands went to the back of his head, rubbing his hair shyly.
"it was, i didnt expect that you guys might still want me here after what ive done. but it was not problem though" kaoruko speaks to the commander in front of her informally, as per requested by the man himself.
godo taking over the commanderwork was no suprise, he had always been kiyoka's most trust ally and a powerful gift-user himself, no less of the man his father used to be known as. granted that he is a very easygoing person, but he takes his responsibility seriously thus him summoning a former traitor to the ground was unexpected.
"meh... dont be too hard on yourself, I've done irresponsible things when the people close to me is in danger as well." they locked eyes, kaoroku feels as if he was looking right into her soul "but i take it that you've learned your lesson right?"
the air around them felt like it shifted, the godo that was a happy go lucky person seem to be replaced by a stern commander that will not let her slip up again.
"yes" kauroku salutes to him, the informalty felt to only be a decoy to pull the enemy close enough to him so that he could stab them in the back if needed.
"good." he turns, shoulder stiff for a moment and then slumps again as he sighs. "sorry, i tend to get carried away with all this commander aura sometimes. you can really drop the formality, i won't bite"
kauroku nods at his request, eyes following his figure as he sits on the chair in the room.
"why did you summon me?" kauroku had been informed earlier that the call was made specifily for her and not other random recuites. "if you're short staffed im sure-"
"you aren't married yet right?"
"huh?"
"are you engaged or promised to anyone?"
marriage? is this what this is about? the commander of the special anti-grotesquerie unit called for her to come to his office all the way from the old capital to ask her whether she's married or not?
"no" she answers, short and direct. just like how she plans for her time to be spent here.
he breathes a sigh of relieve "thank god" he finally lets himself lean onto the back of the chair, tossing his head back as the cushions engulf him.
"what is this about? i didnt thought the commander would summon me here just to ask for my hand in marriage?" her tone irritated, she crosses her arms.
"no, right. i summon you her to offer you a permanent place here in this unit. since the special anti-grotesquerie unit has received a lot of attention since the incidents last year, i thought having a female soldier to train the new females recuites would be great. the old capital has new female trainers now right?"
"right"
"so? what do you think? will you lend us a helping hand?"
at first kauroku thought to reject this offer, she already made plenty of girl friends back in the old capital and coming back here will only mean that she will have to start from zero again. being mocked by male coworkers and having little friends she could actually talk to.
but, "what's with the "are you married' questions you asked" she gestures, making quotations marks with her two fingers
"oh that. uhh..." he felt his neck warm up, a little shy of the upbringing. "jinnuochi, do you like being in the military?"
"that depends. and dont change the subject"
"well, i-"
a knock on the door interrupted their talk, godo's expression shifted from that of a shy boy earlier to a respected commander. "it's time, commander." the voice simply addressed.
"i have to go." kauroku swore there's a tinge of tire in his voice "you'll know why soon enough. oh and think about that offer" and he is gone though the door.
