Work Text:

Since school is over, what’s a better way than to go on a vacation? After months of torment with assignments and projects— everyone will finally get a breather for a while.

Lucky for Remi, she is fortunate enough to spend the summer in Hawaii with her family. Yay! Partly because she has summer class in terms of music lessons. But, hey! It’s still a vacation.

She’s been there since April. Pretty nice! She got to reunite with some of her friends that she hadn’t seen in a while. Having fun and enjoying the moments spent.

Today, Remi spent time alone. It was the weekends, and it meant no music lessons and all. Solitude for her to recharge.

She was about to sleep for today— but, she remembered one of her friends mentioning the new shop nearby. It had some food and cool souvenirs. So, she decided to get up, dress properly, and go there.

It was near— so, she didn’t need to ask for a ride on the way. She simply just walked.

The store looks beautiful up close. The summer vibes with the sea creature decorations really do set the mood. It wasn’t as crowded today. So, she got to walk around to look the cute souvenirs and snacks.

Her eyes specifically landed on the shark keychain, engraved with the word “Hawaii!”. It's so adorable.

Remi got lost in thought as she kept on lookin at the shark souvenirs. She’s such a nerd for sharks.

Because of that, she didn’t notice two small— almost plush like figures flying around outside. Philyn and Jade, two cupids searching for potential romance tropes.

”Ugh, it’s so hot! Tell me why you needed me to come?” Jade groaned. Despite being a supernatural being, the summer heat is still annoying.

“Because,” Philyn started, dragging out the s sound. “I want you to witness my amazing match making! A love story in Hawaii? That would be amazing!” Philyn beamed, unaffected by the sun when it comes to love.

“Philyn, it’s May in the name of love! Valentines is over!” Jade complained. Though, Philyn just shrugged.

”Love isn’t seasonal, Jade! It goes all year long!” Philyn replied enthusiastically.

”You’re just delusional.” Jade commented.

”And you’re a killjoy.” Philyn deadpanned.

They both kept flying around, until Philyn saw a man inside the shop. So, she grabbed one of her arrows and aimed.

Meanwhile Jade’s eyes were just wandering. Until, she noticed a woman staring at her with wide eyes and her jaw dropped.

”What the actual fuck.” Yana said quietly.

Jade’s expression immediately turned to panic.

”Phil, someone can see us!” Jade warned. Since Yana is freaking out by getting up, Jade turned around and accidentally bumped into Philyn. Causing her to lose aim, letting go of the arrow at the wrong direction— missing the man completely, and now hitting Remi’s back.

Remi just fell onto the ground with a loud thud. Causing the other people nearby to look at her.

”Uh oh.. wrong person,” Philyn whispered with a wince. “Welp, since I hit one, I gotta hit the other.” Philyn continued as she grabbed another arrow.

Meanwhile Yana looked at them, mouth open wide from what she just saw.

”Am I high?” Yana asked herself. But, both Jade and Philyn heard it.

”No, you’re not. But, since you see us… I apologize.” Philyn apologized with a small smile.

“For what?” Yana asked.

”For this.” Jade answered as she shot Yana with her own arrow. Causing her to fall to the ground too.

Philyn was surprised at that.

”I thought you said summer romance is delusional?” Philyn teased lightly.

”Correction, you’re delusional. But, I had to. It wipes their memories of seeing us after all,” Jade replied with an eye roll. “Let’s move to another location, this woman might see us again and freak out.”

”Got it.”

So, the two cupids left the shop. Humans can’t see them. Well, except for Yana earlier.

Bystanders and confused customers from the shop approached them, concerned. It didn’t take long for them to stir back to consciousness.

”Ow…”

”What happened…”

Both said in unison as the first thing they saw when opening their eyes— was each other. Their gazes locked as they stayed like that for a few moments, like time freezing.

They didn’t even noticed the people nearby staring at them in confusion, concern, and mild amusement.

The silence stretched for about 10 seconds, or 20? Who even counts the seconds? Thankfully, Remi broke it.

”Hi, are you okay?” Remi said softly as she got up first, extending a hand to Yana. An offer to help her up too.

Without thinking, Yana took her hand. It was warm, comforting, and she felt her heart skip a beat.

”Hi…! Yeah, I’m okay. But, I don’t remember how I got to the ground.” Yana replied quietly, she’s naturally awkward. But somehow, she isn’t uncomfortable around Remi.

”Same… Last thing I remembered was looking at some souvenirs before my vision went black.” Remi replied.

“…What’s your name?” Yana blurted out without thinking.

Remi smiled, showing her dimples. Which somehow made Yana’s brain short-circuit, “My name is Remi. Remi Dumonteir. How about you?” She answered in a gentle tone.

”My name is Yana Aubertine. Nice to meet you.” Yana answered too. Her shyness slowly dissipating.

”I assume you’re here to check the souvenirs and snacks?” Remi asked.

”Yeah, I heard it’s a popular place here. I’m actually from Alaska, came here for a vacation.” Yana replied. She doesn’t know what’s gotten over her, since when was she so confident in conversations?

”Wait, cool! I’m from Alaska too!” Remi beamed.

”Wait, really? What school?” Yana asked, now curious.

”PNHS, Parville National High School.” Remi replied.

”Wait, I go there too!” Yana said, surprised.

”Wait, really? I didn’t see you around, though!” Remi asked.

”I usually stay at the quiet parts of classrooms and in the cafeteria.” Yana stated, chuckling lightly.

They kept talking together. After a bit, Remi spoke up.

”Wanna buy some food here in the shop and some souvenirs too?” Remi suggested softly without pressuring her.

”Yeah, sure! That’s why I’m here!” Yana agreed.

So, they walked around the shop. Buying some Hawaiian snacks that tasted heavenly.

Then, Remi’s eyes landed on the shark souvenirs. Eyes widening in fascination and awe. Yana seemed to notice it too.

”Do you like sharks?” Yana asked without thinking. Already regretting it since it’s so obvious that Remi likes sharks.

”I love sharks! They’re so cool and learning about them is so interesting,” Remi replied with optimism as she told some fun facts about sharks. Huh, who knew that this girl is a nerd for sharks? Yana found it endearing. When Remi got back to reality, she coughed from embarrassment. She just got her nerdy side out and saying facts about sharks like an aquarium guide.

”Sorry…” Remi mumbled, embarrassed that Yana would find it weird.

But, Yana didn’t find it weird. It was the complete opposite, knowledge is attractive after all.

”Don’t apologize, it’s cool to know that you know a lot about sharks.” Yana reassured softly, since when did she speak in a soft tone? Since today.

Remi smiled at that, glad. She then glanced at one of the souvenirs— matching keychains of two different species of sharks. Without thinking twice, Remi spoke up again.

”Do you want to get matching keychains? I know we just met, but I’d love to keep a memory of us…” Remi blurted out, suddenly shy after those words got out of her mouth.

Yana’s eyes widened at that. Genuinely surprised. But, she doesn’t have a problem with it.

”Is this your way of asking for my number too?” Yana teased gently.

”Maybe.” Remi retorted back. Causing the both of them to laugh softly together.

They then exchanged numbers. After that, Remi ended up buying the matching keychains and paid for it, she insisted on paying fully after all.

They spent the rest of the afternoon talking about random things and enjoyed the mood in this lively store. By the time they were leaving, Remi said.

”Text me when you get home?” She asked softly. Yana smiled at that.

”I will.” Yana replied as they both nodded at each other and parted ways. Their tiny shark keychains dangling from their bags.

Meanwhile, Philyn and Jade were at the roof of the store. They never left.

”See? Aren’t they adorable?” Philyn asked.

”I hate to admit it, but yes. Your delusions actually are nice.” Jade replied.

”Do you think they’ll get together?” Philyn asked curiously.

”They will, and time will prove it.” Jade replied simply as she and Philyn flew back to their place.

It’s not the end, but surely the beginning.
