the bell rang as Ryker opened up the door, the smell of coffee and pasteries hit him instantly when he walked into the coffee shop. or was it a cafe? did coffee shops sell pasteries? what even was the difference between a coffe shop and a cafe?
he decided to just call it a coffee shop, that was why he was here after all, coffee.
there suprisingly few people here for what he had heard about the place, suposedly it was the best coffee spot in town.
he usualy just made his coffee at home, but he had a bit of extra time this morning so he decided to try it out.
he took his spot in line, scanning the menu for something that sounded good. he debated just going with black coffee, but since he was already here he might as well try something else.
he landed on the moonlight latee, and a sunbun as a treat. everything had a space related name, luckily there was a description for each item in smaller writing underneath.
"sir, are you ready to order?"
"oh? yes, sorry," while he was thinking he had made it to the front of the line.
"what would you like?"
"a moonlight latee, and a sunbun please," he responded, getting ready to find a seat.
"what size would you like your latee?" the barista paitently walked him through the sizes, and he landed on a medium. "and a name for the order?"
"Ryker,"
"what a nice name! how do you spell that?"
"R-Y-K-E-R,"
"for here or to go?"
he looked through the coffee shop, finding it empty.
"for here,"
"great! that will be 9.99$, I'll call your name when it's ready," the barista turned around, and Ryker thought he caught a wink, but he wasn't sure.
he found a table to sit at, and pulled a book out of his bag. he had sowed it himself, cut out the monochromatic pinetrees and carefully stiched them on, sowed in the lining, spent hours embroidering a moss like texture with buttons and trinkets weaved in across parts of the bag.
he opened the book, pulling out the book mark and continued where he left off.
he only got about a page in before his name was called.
He walked up to the counter and picked up his plate and cup.
"thank you," he said, nodding at the barista before he sat down again.

Zach was pretty sure a small part of his soul died as he saw the note fall to the floor.
the customer— Ryker —had the audacity to walk into his coffee shop, and look so effortlesy cool, and pretty with his stupid green bag, and stupid messy blond hair, and his stupid headphones, and stupid, pretty brown eyes… where was he going? Right! and then miss his atempt at flirting!
to be fair, Zach was pretty bad at flirting. but still!
he watched as Ryker finished his coffee and sunbun, before he got up and left.
Zach picked the note of off the floor.
hey, I think you're cute. wan't to go out some time? ♡
and then his phone number.
it was a dumb note anyway, if he came here another time Zach would ask him out loud.

after the day was over he made his way back to his and Cora's shared apartment. he took his shoes off and left them by the door.
he went into the living room, and collapsed onto the couch where Cora was already sitting.
"so, how was your day?" she put her phone onto the table.
"I blew it!"
"blew it— did you get fired?!"
"No, no, there was this guy who never comes in, I tried to ask him out but my note fell on the floor, so he didn't see it!" he covered his face with his hands, leaning back.
Cora rolled her eyes. "I'm sure he'll be back, don't worry," there was a slight smile in her voice.
"but what if he doesn't!"
"then it wasn't meant to be!" she pulled at his arm. "now come on, we're making dinner,"
✮⋆˙☆Cora☆˙⋆✮

when Cora said "we're making dinner," she really made Zach. none of them were particulary good at cooking, but Zach had never set fire to spagheti. she wasn't even sure how she did that, there was water in the pot!
so, she leaned against the counter as Zach made pancakes and talked about his latest crush.
from this conversation she had found out that:
-
the guy had blonde messy hair
-
he had quote "beutiful brown eyes that practicaly glittered in the sun,"
-
that he was reading the same books series as Zach
and 4. he had a green messanger bag that looked home made
from this she was pretty sure she knew who this was, but she asked just to make sure.
"what's his name?"
"Ryker," bingo.
she didn't know him per say, but he was a friend of Jason so she had met him in group settings before.
now, she could ask Jason to help her set the two up… or she could do nothing and watch Zach struggle.
she settled for something in between.
"I'd learn a bit about sowing if I were you," she grabbed a pancake, and walked away.
