Work Text:
So, my dear, that happened!
“So, luv, here we are.”
“Indeed, at the end but not.”
“Good thing we ended up together though, despite you know, God saying we wouldn’t.”
“Did she actually say that? I mean, it wasn’t as clear as all that, right?”
“Well, we did ask for no angels and demons, no heaven or hell, no capital anything any more, just humans running amok on this fair planet, right?”
“Yes, that too. But we knew we had to sacrifice.”
“Our powers?”
“Well, you lost yours already before didn’t you, dear.”
“I guess I kinda did.”
“So, the way I see it is, that we became these, human forms, for good and still ended up together. A parting gift from God herself at the very end.”
“But was it an end though? I mean, here we two are, some time later, rehashing this all. We still remember everything.”
“Yes, and that, I am finding odd.”
“That’s the only thing, love?”
Crowley just had to chuckle, then again, the whole ordeal the two having gone through, all the angst and obstacles, the hoops they had pulled through, it was a miracle they were even alive and together.
But there were no more miracles right? No more deities, nothing supernatural, kind of boring come to think about the lack there of, right?
“Well, not really. But I am glad about the one thing though, the most important thing as a matter of fact.”
“Love?”
“Yes, dear?”
“No I mean, is it love?”
“Yes there is that and lots of it between us, but we two, finally wound up to be the us.”
“That is true and the best part of the whole ending of things. End of times if you will.”
A spell of silence fell on the two partners in life, the two in love humans they were, Asa and Anthony.
Until…
“I still can’t believe it though.”
“What is it love?”
“That we remember it all!”
“Yeah, well, it’s odd. Is like, something from a movie you’ve seen, and can’t get over the fact it wasn’t real.”
“Indeed.”
“Well, best not think about it too much though.”
“I guess not, better let those memories fade. Another life to be put into the past where it belongs.”
Another spell of silence fell on the two, enjoying the quiet evening together in peace and quiet.
“Was it in the past though? I mean what happened before all this?”
“I… well, I am not really sure.”
“Hm…”
“It is odd though…”
A soft sigh was expelled.
“I thought we weren’t going to talk about this any more.”
“Indeed.”
“So, we’re still talking about this then?”
“Well…”
Chuckles.
Fade out to the starry skies above them with the soft hum of the nightingale singing her nightly song in this, new(?) universe in a quaint little cottage known as South Downs for the two human lovers…
“I think it was in the past.”
“Had to be, right, otherwise we wouldn’t remember it.”
“Logical assumption.”
“It make sense.”
“Indeed.”
“You say that lot.”
“What?”
“Indeed.”
“I do?”
“Indeed.”
They laughed, holding hands, snuggling together in the warmth under their blankets, talking about evaryitng and nothing and simply, enjoying life.
The answers they were perhaps seeking never really getting a conclusion after all.
Guess some things simply had to remain, a mystery. Or then not?
