The fire had long since died down. The heat logs had burned and then crumbled away to white ash.
She was alone. The others having gone, in pairs or one by one, to their rooms, keen to be back into the warm and away from the smoky air that would pervade their clothes until washing day.
Last to go had been Ottie. An old university friend of Nick's that he'd invited along to take a busily important Tao's place.
Immy pulled the unicorn onesie a little tighter around her. It was soft and warm and smelled like hope and promise.
