Work Text:

The sun was long gone and the farmer's birthday celebration was finally winding down. The saloon was nearly empty now, having just been packed full with everyone in town. Except for Gus who was still there cleaning up. When he saw them staying back to help, he shooed them out, telling them to enjoy their night instead.

Entering the chilly outside they came face-to-face with Sebastian, standing there with his hands in the pockets of his jeans. When they made eye contact he offered them the slightest smile. The kind you'd only be able to spot after becoming familiar with him.

“Wanted to say happy birthday again. Without all the noise this time.” He reaches for something in the pocket of his hoodie.

“I also got a gift for you,” he pauses as he holds it out to them. “Must've forgotten to give it to you before with all the chaos.” The farmer studies the piece of obsidian in Sebastian’s hand as he laughs nervously. One the farmer had seen displayed in Sebastian's room before, among the pieces he’d introduced as his favorites. They take it. It's about the size of their hand and smooth as they run their fingers across its cold, shiny surface.

“Thank you Seb.” They reach out for a hug. Sebastian slightly lowers himself and puts his arms around them loosely.

“No worries, you've done more for me. It was the least I could do.”

When they part they look at each other for a moment, not saying anything. After a beat the farmer bursts into laughter at the hesitant look on Sebastian's face and speaks first.

“Why don't you walk me to the beach? I'd love to get some air after all that.”

“Yeah.” Sebastian looks towards the beach, hands slipping back into the pockets of his jeans. “Sounds good.”

The walk to the beach is quiet in a peaceful way. It was windier than town, providing some relief to the farmer's slightly sweaty body and flushed cheeks. Once there they end up sitting at the end of one of the piers, Sebastian smoking while they watch the water.

“Thanks again, for walking me I mean.” They say.

“It wasn't a big deal. I wanted to walk around a bit too anyway.”

“How about you do another favor for me then?” They lean towards Sebastian, their tone playful. He looks at them and raises an eyebrow. “Let me have a puff of your cigarette!”

“No. Not happening.” He answered and looked away. They leaned in further, almost laying on him.

“C'mon, just one puff. I can handle it.” They continue leaning in while watching Sebastian get redder and redder. Finally, he turns to them blowing smoke in their face. They immediately start coughing in surprise. Caught off-guard. Pulling back to not get their spit on Sebastian they smile at the sound of his laugh, despite their now watering eyes.

They glance up at Sebastian who suddenly inhales sharply, starting to cough himself.

“Ah— fuc— Yoba.” He pats himself on the chest trying to calm himself down. When he looks back up they're both smiling again.

His hand moves from the pier to their arm, tentatively, watching for any rejection. When he finds none he leans in, a little too fast and—

“Oh shit!” Mistaking the distance due to his still slightly blurred vision he falls on top of the farmer with a yelp. Bringing them both to laying on the pier, tangled together, cigarette now lying between them on the pier. The weight catches the farmer off guard as Sebastian let go and buried his head at their side in shame. They start to laugh, as much as they could with Sebastian's full weight on them. When he doesn’t get up they pat his back reassuringly, not stopping their laughter.

“Trying to give me another one of those birthday presents you forgot about?”

Sebastian slightly raises his head to meet their eyes, “No. I would have given this one any other day too.”

He leans down and their lips meet in a kiss. The cigarette quickly gets forgotten on the pier as they wrap their arms around each other. The farmer’s hands stroking Sebastian’s hair now as he adjusts himself over them, kneeling over them instead to give them room to move again. Which they do, starting to sit up, hands leaving the back of Sebastian’s neck. His rest loosely at the farmer’s waist, distracted. As the farmer pushes themself up they exclaim, breaking the kiss.

Sebastian looks at them, concerned, and sees the cigarette they just pressed down on. He grabs their hand to get a better look, but the farmer intertwines them instead. Giving him a kiss on the nose when he looks back at their face.

“Worth it.”

Notes:

I want to keep editing to try to make it better but I'm trying to not be too precious since I'm just starting out. So here we are, impulsively publishing it before I can regret it!!
