Work Text:
There was a new killer. That was the only thing the Spectre told them: there was a new killer, and that killer was really mad. Why this new killer was mad, they did not know. They weren’t even expecting a new killer. They weren’t even given the name of the killers. All they know is that at some point today, they're going to have to go up against this new killer blind.
Two Time slowly wakes up from their bed after the sun from the window hits them in the eye. The distant smell of breakfast contributes to the awakening of Two Time. They know Elliot makes a good breakfast.
Another day in hell.
Two Time grabs their clothes for the day from out of the drawer. Two Time quickly undresses from the pajamas, glancing at themself in the mirror, a few random scars across their body, some from their own injuries, top surgery, or some random scar from their childhood they couldn't quite pinpoint what caused them to form. Two Time hates looking at themself in the mirror naked, it makes them feel dysphoric. Two Time grabs their clothes for the day and puts them on. The same thing as every day. Like everyone else. The same thing as yesterday, but clean and unworn.
Once Two Time is done, they head over to one side of their room. A shrine dedicated to The Spawn. Their God. Two Time kneels in front of the shrine and wraps their hands together, and prays to The Spawn. Two Time does this every day after changing from their pajamas; it's ritualistic.
After their little prayer session, they head down to eat. Walking down the stairs, no one seems to notice Two Time; they're all focused on their own things, but Noob does notice Two Time walking down the stairs and gives them a friendly wave and then returns to talking to Veeronica and 007n7. Two Time enters, seeing Elliot make breakfast.
“Oh, morning Two Time, there are some already-made pancakes and bacon over there,” Elliot greats, continuing, “Help yourself, just don't eat everything like SOME ADMIN KEEPS TRYING TO DO!”
Shedletsky looks up from his seat, stuffing way too much food in his mouth at once, and then looks away, feeling awkward being called out.
Elliot sighs, “You're gonna need the nutrition, we have a new killer today, remember?”
“Yes, I indeed remember being told about the new killer,” Two Time responds, grabbing a plate and putting a pancake on it alongside a few bacon strips.
Two Time goes too where everyone else is, now fully paying attention to their conversations. Everyone was gossiping about the new killer. Two Time sits in a seat away from them, but close enough to listen to their conversations.
“I am curious to whether the new killer has any history corresponding with any of us, or whether they're just going to be there like Nosferatu,” Dusekkar ponders, talking to Shedletsky and Builderman.
“It could be Doombringer? The Spectre did talk about him being a killer at some point,” Shedletsky shrugs, speaking with his mouth full.
“I don't really want Doombringer as a killer… he was our coworker after all…” Builderman shudders.
“And? How do you think the hacker feels about his son and boyfriend being a killer?” Shedletsky looks over to Builderman. “Speaking of…” Shedletsky leans over towards 007n7 in his chair, “Hey, hacker boy, do you think you could hack into Spectre's system to see who the new killer is?”
007n7 looks over to Shedletsky, “No, I can't see anything about the new killers, we're just going to have to wait.”
“Damnit…” Shedletsky frowns. “Well, either way, can't wait for us to corner the unlucky person and force them to tell us everything about the killer like last time.”
“Shedletsky, it's not fun at all, it's scary and makes the person uncomfortable,” Noob butts in, having had this treatment when Guest 666 got added.
“Meh meh meh. It at least makes this place less boring!” Shedletsky crosses his arms, being a bit more rude than usual due to him not having any coffee yet.
Two Time has had enough of listening to their conversation, now drowning them out with their own thoughts, planning on how to backstab the new killer without getting hurt.
About 30 minutes later, the first round of the day starts. They all appear in Ultimate Assassin Grounds as the first map. They all scatter, trying to find the generators and the killer. Two Time finds a secluded area and does their ritual so they can spawn in there if killed. Two Time wonders around the map, it's really silent. Too silent. The Survivors all meet up in one place, curious to where the killer is. Two Time isn't there yet.
“Is Nosferatu the killer? Seriously, where the hell is the killer?” Guest 1337 looks up and around.
“Maybe the killer just doesn't feel like killing this early in the morning?” Noob suggests.
“The only killer that wouldn't feel like killing early in the morning is Noli, and we'd probably have seen one of his clones from the generators by now,” 007n7 crosses his arm.
Taph tries climbing up a building in attempts of trying to locate the killer. Once on the roof, they look around trying to spot them.
“Well, any luck?” Jane asks.
Taph shakes their head no.
“This is weird… Maybe something malfunctioned, and there just is no killer this round?” Elliot shrugs.
Taph starts crawling down, but then is tackled by some black shadow and killed.
“NEVER MIND, THE KILLER IS HERE THE KILLER IS HERE, AND IT’S SIXER!” Chance panics, starting to run around.
Guest 1337 grabs Chance by their jacket, “Get a hold of yourself, Chance! That shadow was way too small to be Sixer…”
“He's right, that couldn't've been Sixer… that had to've been the new killer…” Veeronica agrees.
Shedletsky walks forward, “KILLER, SHOW YOURSELF!”
After they see Taph's body being launched, the killer walks forward. They're all black with a witch hat, purple eyes, a purple symbol on their chest, and a face on the hat that is also purple. Slim figure, black tentacles come out from their back.
“Oh shit-” Builderman backs away slightly.
Two Time finally gets over there, “Hi, what did I miss?”
Two Time looks up at the killer, the killer looks down at Two Time. Overwhelming fear crawls up Two Time's spine. The Killer narrows his eyes at Two Time.
“Oh, crumbs-” Two Time starts backing away.
The Killer slowly walks closer to the edge of the roof as Two Time backs away. Two Time then backs away faster, the killer matches their speed, jumping down from the building. Two Time knows exactly who this is. The Killer walks faster, trying to get ahold of Two Time, pissed as fuck.
“NIGHTSHADE!” The Killer shouts at Two Time. The nickname confirms who it is.
“Nightshade?” Chance repeats to himself, confused with where this is going.
Two Time backs up faster, stumbling and falling down, “A-Azurewrath- I-I am so sorry- p-please don't-”
The killer lunges towards Two Time, grabbing them by the shirt and holding them up in the air, “And why should I not? You're nothing more than a backstabber!! I'm not letting my guard down again for you, just for you to kill me again!”
“Azure, I didn’t have a choice!” Two Time starts crying.
“Oh, don't start crying, you're going to make me feel guilty for hurting you, Nightshade,” Azure growls.
“Hey uhhh, not to be rude or anything, but who the hell are you and why do you keep calling Two Time, Nightshade?” Elliot speaks up, trying to save Two Time from getting killed.
Azure ignores the question and turns his attention back to Two Time, “But go on, Two Time, keep telling yourself that lie, you didn't have to kill me. You're just greedy and selfish, not thinking about anyone else! Tell me, do you even REMEMBER what happened that day?”
“You really shouldn't ignore Elliot's question; they all are curious who you are,” Two Time tries changing the subject, still crying.
“ANSWER MY QUESTION TWO TIME, DO YOU OR DO YOU NOT REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED!” Azure demands.
“Y-yes…” Two Time looks away.

??? Years ago. Morning.
Two Time sleeps peacefully in bed; the curtains block out the sunlight from bothering Two Time.
Azure walks over to their sleeping form and gently shakes them awake, “My Nightshade, I made you some tea!”
Two Time wakes and sits up. Their legs sore from walking around a lot yesterday. Two Time looks up at Azure and grabs the teacup, “Thank you, Azure, I love your tea!”
“I know you do, that's why I made you some. How are your legs feeling? I'd imagine they're aching from yesterday,” Azure sits down next to Two Time in the bed.
“They are, but I'm happy with you next to me!” Two Time smiles, nuzzling their forehead against Azure's.
The couple stays like that for a few minutes until Azure gets up and stretches, “I gotta go, Two Time. Amarah told me that someone has been feeling ill and the remedy can't make itself!”
“Alright, I'll see you later!” Two Time smiles.
“And remember our date in the field later tonight, try not to be late~” Azure kisses Two Time's cheek, grabbing some of his stuff.
“I won't, don't worry!” Two Time giggles at the kiss.
“And also remember to take a shower, I know how you forget to do that unless you're told,” Azure reminds before heading out the door.
“I will! Love you!” Two Time waves as Azure leaves.
“I love you more, My Nightshade!” Azure exits, leaving Two Time alone.
Two Time finishes the tea and stands up, readying themself for the day. They get in the shower first, so they won't forget. Once that was taken care of, they grabs their clothing and cleans their apartment some.
Life in the cult was peaceful. Just do your work and pray to the Spawn, and you get free housing, food, and water. It was isolated from the world, in a secluded forest, but Two Time didn't mind; in fact, they loved that. The forest was beautiful, and Two Time wasn’t much of a social butterfly, but they had Azure and the Spawn, and that's all they could ever want.
Once finished, they step outside and try finding Amarah so they can get something to do that day. They find Amarah near the temple. Two Time cautiously approaches Amarah, not wanting to startle them.
Once at a good distance, Two Time speaks, “Teacher Amarah, what do you want me to do today?”
Amarah looks over at Two Time and gestures for them to come closer, “Two Time, my child, I need to discuss something of importance with you inside the temple.”
Two Time nods and follows Amarah inside. It is dark inside, only lit up by torches and small bits of natural light.
“Stay here real quick…” Amarah instructs before leaving and then coming back with a wooden box.
“What's that?” Two Time cocks their head in curiosity, staring at the wooden box.
“Two Time, you are one of our most devoted members, it is your time to earn your second life,” Amarah opens the box, revealing a blade, more specifically a dagger.
Two Time looks at the dagger, admiring the beauty of it. Amarah gives a slight nod to tell Two Time it's ok to pick it up. Two Time carefully removes it from its box and holds it in their hands, studying it.
“It's the Ghostfire Dagger, and it's for you to keep! Though this is being given to you because The Spawn has decided your ready,” Amarah says.
“What does the Spawn want me to do for my second life?” Two Time directs their attention to Amarah.
“You'll have to kill one of our own members with this dagger,” Amarah starts.
“Oh… is it random or is it predetermined?” Two Time asks, feeling queasy.
They knew they were going to have to kill for their second life, but they didn't know it was going to be someone within the cult. Though Two Time didn't find it too surprising, they don't want the cops called on them after all.
“In order to gain your second life, you have to kill someone close to you. The Spawn specifically instructed for you to kill Azurewrath…” Amarah answers, their expression unreadable.
Two Time looks at the dagger, their vision starting to blur. They look up at Amarah, desperately, “Does it have to be Azure? Can it be anyone other than him!? I don’t want to kill Azure, I love him, he’s my partner!”
“If he's not dead by midnight, you will fail to gain your second life and be damned. Furthermore, The Spawn won't be too keen on having someone that betrays its orders on its sacred land, so you'll have to leave if he's not dead by that time,” Amarah continues.
Two Time swallows spit that was in their mouth “...Yes, Teacher Amarah…”
“You might lose the love of your life, but you'll have a sick dagger, and who doesn't love a sick dagger!?” Amarah tries cheering Two Time up.
Two Time looks at the dagger, starting to hate it.
“Hey, it's going to be ok, I've had to do the same to my old best friend, but there are benefits, you'll be more respected and have more friends and probably a new partner!”
“What about Azure, though… he won't get his second life,” Two Time says abruptly.
“It's better you kill him, if The Spawn had chosen it to be Azurewrath's time, you would've died without your second life,” Amarah shrugs. “Hopefully, you can get him when he's not ready. It'll make it easier. Maybe in his sleep.”
Two Time nods and then puts the Ghostfire Dagger in their pocket. It feels heavier than it should in there. Guilt is already attached to it, even though they haven't killed Azure yet. Amarah wishes Two Time good luck before Two Time leaves. The sun blinds them, but the blinding devotion to The Spawn shines brighter than that. They'll have to kill Azure, whether they like it or not.
It is eventually noon. Two Time sits at a table under a tree, it was some form of oak. They wait for Azure. It was their routine to eat lunch at that spot every day. The light shining through the leaves made it peaceful. Azure appears and sits across from Two Time.
“How are you, My Nightshade?” Azure says, pulling out their lunch and handing Two Time their sandwich.
“I'm going to get my second life today…” Two Time admits.
“Really!? Oh my Spawn, that's amazing news! I'm so happy for you! I can’t wait for it to be my time to get my second life! Who do you have to sacrifice?”
Two Time freezes. They can't bear to tell Azure the truth. So they lie, “Amarah is going to grab someone for me to sacrifice. I'll have it done before our date, don't worry. I'll also have the blood cleaned off me by then.”
“Can I be with you when you do it? I want to see you get your second life!” Azure innocently asks.
Oh, Azure will be more than with Two Time when it happens.
“Unfortunately, not, Amarah said it was a really private process; it can only be me, the sacrifice, and Amarah in the temple when it happens,” Two Time lies again.
“I understand… Wow, I can't believe this! You're so lucky, Two Time! I love you so much!” Azure beams.
“I love you too, Azure…” Two Time smiles back, though it's forced.
It dawns on Two Time that this will be the last time they have lunch like this together. That this will probably be the last time they hang out with each other before Two Time has to kill Azure. Two Time tries holding back their tears, but they still come out. Two Time tries stopping the waterfall before Azure can notice, but it’s no use. Two Time chokes out sobs, trying so hard to stop. Azure looks up from his sandwich, hearing their partner crying.
Azure gets up from his side and walks over to Two Time and sits next to them, wrapping his arms around Two Time’s shaking body, “Hey, hey, don’t cry. It’s ok. I know it must be overwhelming that you have to kill someone, but it’s ok. I’m here. I’ll always be with you. Don’t worry, Nightshade.”
Two Time starts crying harder, leaning into his warm embrace. They know Azure is trying to be supportive, but it’s not helping; it’s only making it worse. It makes Two Time feel more terrible for something that hasn’t happened yet. They don’t want to kill Azure. They would rather just live a peaceful life with him as their husband. Alas, their devotion to The Spawn overshadows that want, like a vulture patiently waiting for some rabbit to mess up and get run over so it can eat the carcass.
“Stop caring so much,” Two Time can almost hear The Spawn say. “Prove your loyalty to me and kill him tonight.”
After a few minutes later, the tears subside. Two Time clings to Azure like their life depends on it. In a way, it does. It determines their life. Two Time starts trying to maybe figure out a way to avoid it. Like convincing Azure to run away with them. That plan is stupid. Azure would probably refuse and tell Amarah. Even if Azure did go along with them, they wouldn’t survive. They have no job experience, money, collage degrees. Anything. Maybe Two Time should just kill themself after it. They wouldn’t be together in the afterlife, though… Two Time would be in their second life, while Azure is forever alone...
Azure will be forever alone...
Azure will be forever alone.

Two Time lets go of Azure, “I’ll see you later at our date.”
“Ok, I’ll see you there, My Nightshade. I love you,” Azure gives Two Time a little kiss on the lips. It’s gentle yet sweet.
“I love you too…” Two Time kisses him back, then gets up and leaves.
As Two Time leaves, it feels as if The Spawn keeps hyping them for this by whispering into the back of their head.
“You’re doing the right thing by killing him.”
“Killing him is better than spending the rest of your eternity in hell, right?”
“He’ll kill you if you don’t kill him first.”
“Think of the respect and friends you’ll have after this!”
“You might take Amarah’s place when they step down if you do this.”
“You wouldn’t betray your god just for one measly relationship, right?”
Two Time opens the door to their apartment and shuts it, sliding down against it, hugging their knees and crying into them. After Two Time cries for around 30 minutes, thinking of The Spawn’s disapproval if they don’t, they stand up and start planning on how to do it, what to do if they fail.
Their devotion to The Spawn takes over. The Spawn, "whispering” to them, overrides any form of hesitation, sadness, and the desire not to do it. They practically lose the ability to think properly, now deciding to just devote their life and body to this false entity that Two Time knows as their one and only god. Their conscious hates that they’re deciding to do this, but there is another part that just slowly embraces this sick and twisted demand to appease The Spawn.
Night eventually falls, Two Time grabs the Ghostfire Dagger off the counter, and leaves the apartment. Planning to leave alone and return alone. They head over to the field of Nightshades, seeing Azure already there and waiting for them. They pocket the dagger so Azure doesn’t see it and approaches him. Azure is holding a small bouquet of flowers that he grew, holding something behind his back with the other hand. He notices Two Time and waves to them with the hand holding the bouquet. Two Time gets to Azure, standing in front of him, trying to appreciate this small bit of normalcy before it gets destroyed.
“My Nightshade, you made it!” Azure warmly grins. “How did it go?”
Two Time ignores the question and hugs Azure, allowing this last bit of affection to blossom before it gets stepped on, kissing him before letting go. Azure understands this lie even though it wasn’t said. Once Two Time steps back again, Azure looks up.
“The stars are quite beautiful tonight. They illuminate the field perfectly,” Azure hands Two Time the bouquet.
“They are…” Two Time nods. They were about to say something else, but Azure taps them on the shoulder.
Two Time turns around, seeing Azure on one knee. Two Time now understands that this is why Azure wanted to have a date like this; it was a proposal. Now it’s going to be even harder for Two Time to just kill him. Two Time refuses to let any form of emotion crack through their blank mask. Guilt and love towards this man grows inside of them, slowly consuming them from the inside out.
“YOU’RE SO CLOSE, DON’T BACK OUT NOW!” Two Time hears The Spawn demand in the back of their mind.
“Nightshade, we’ve been together for 3 years, those 3 years have been the best years of my life… I-I don’t really know what to say, you know, I’m not the best at emotional speeches or anything, so I’ll get to the point… Two Time… Please make me the happiest man in the world and be my spouse,” Azure pulls out the thing he was holding from behind him. A box. He opens it, revealing a ring that one of the other cultists custom-made for this proposal.
Two Time stares at the ring and then back at Azure. Their mind is screaming to say yes, but there is another part, their manifestation of The Spawn, chanting at them to kill him right now. Two Time’s eyes are blank and emotionless as they look down at the box. But of course, The Spawn wins again. They look at Azure’s hopeful expression and then lunge towards him, making it seem like a hug, and at first, it was. They pin Azure to the ground, straddling him as his head lies in the nightshades.
“I-I’m taking that as a yes-” Azure starts crying tears of joy and hugs Two Time tightly.
Two Time pushes Azure off and pulls out the Ghostfire Dagger from their pocket, raising it high above Azure’s chest. Within seconds, Azure’s expression changes from love to fear to understanding. Two Time looks down at Azure, a somewhat crazed expression on their face.
“I’m sorry…” Two Time mutters under their breath, a single tear rolling down their cheek.
“I love you,” Azure cries back before being impaled by the dagger.
The dagger sinks into his flesh, penetrating his heart as the world around him fades to black. Two Time looks down at the corpse of their fallen love. They push the dagger in deeper, ensuring he’s dead, before pulling it out, blood dripping down onto his shirt. Two Time gives Azure’s dead body a kiss on the lips before standing up to let him rot in the field.
———————————————————
Present day.
“Then give me one good reason why I shouldn’t just kill you!” Azure snarls, newfound hatred created by The Spectre twisting his mind.
“It was for The Spawn, that was for my second life!” Two Time answers.
“I KNOW, BUT YOU DIDN’T HAVE TO LIE TO ME IN THE FIRST PLACE!” Azure chokes Two Time.
“DIVINE PUMPKIN, PLEASE SAVE MEEEEEEEE!!!!” Two Time wiggles around, needing Dusekkar’s assistance.
Dusekkar sighs and uses Plasma Beam to make Azure drop Two Time. Azure falls back in, and Two Time hides behind Dusekkar in fear.
“Thank you, Divine Pumpkin…” Two Time whispers, looking at Azure, trying to get up while clutching his head in pain.
“AUGHHH, WHYYYYY!?” Azure growls.
He gets up, pushes the other survivors aside, and tackles Two Time, pinning them to the ground, raising a tentacle ready to stab them in the chest as they did to him. Two Time starts crying again. Azure looks at Two Time, feeling guilty about this.
“Spawn damnit, why do I have to love you still, even after this…” Azure holds Two Time in a tight embrace, also crying.
The round ends due to Azure not killing any of the survivors in the time given to him. Two Time lies on the ground, in the same position as before the round ended. Traumatized.
“Well… That was… interesting…” Chance speaks up, breaking the silence.
“Well, Two Time, it's your turn to say everything you know about that guy!” Shedletsky smirks.
