Work Text:
Spoke sits on a bench in the far edge of a graveyard a lone gravestone lay in front of him, the biggest in the graveyard surrounded by various different flowers from all the corners of the server, cornflowers, poppies, dandelions, tulips red white and pink scattered about. However Spokes eyes are only focused on one flower, a single lonely rose lays at the centre of the grave drifting slowly with the wind. The sound of footsteps slowly inch closer to Spoke and the bench.
"Your still here spoke?"
Spoke slowly turns to look to his left, parrot, the king of unstable, inches closer sitting just beside him on the bench over looking the grave. Spoke turns back to the grave speaking in a small quiet voice.
"Yes parrot, I'm still here"
Parrot sighs overlooking the gravestone now as well, and leans back into the bench a bit, he knows better than anyone the kind of pain spoke is going through right now, the loss of someone that meant so much to you isn't something you can get over easily, especially in spokes case. Parrot goes to speak again but is cut off by Spoke before hand.
"Do you think he would like it?"
"Hm? Like what?"
Parrot replies a little confused at the question.
"The gravestone I built for them."
Parrot sits in silence for a moment turning to spoke he's staring at the floor not bearing the sight of the gravestone anymore than he already has. His hands clenched with what can be only assumed to be a mix of sadness and anger. The wind picks up, its cold like the ocean the trees and flowers sway with it. Parrot finally speaks again turning away from spoke to look at the gravestone.
"Of course spoke, It's beautiful, I'm sure he would have loved it"
The gravestone was huge covered in various red blocks and flowers, it towers over the average player. Spoke speaks up again his voice shaky as he does his eyes begin to water. He clenches his hands harder trying his best to hold back tears.
"Parrot?"
"Yes spoke?"
"How... How do... you deal with something like this?"
A Loss like this was no stranger to parrot people have betrayed him, died for him, manipulated him, he knew better than anyone in the entire server what spoke was going through. He sighs leaning his head back to look up at the sky, seems like its going to be storming pretty soon must be why the wind is picking up. He says still looking up.
"Well, to be honest, the best thing to do is grieve spoke."
He looks down back towards the grave the flowers still drifting in the wind he wants to say more but, he just can't think of anything to say to spoke that would help. He turns to spoke and begins to say sorry. Before suddenly spoke wraps his arms around parrot hugging him as tightly as he can, crying.
"Parrot I.. I Don't know what to do, I just can't, I.."
Parrot cuts off his crying friend returning the hug squeezing him as hard as possible, he says in a calm voice fully realising the gravity of the loss.
"Spoke it's ok, I'm here for you, We're all here for you."
Parrot pulls away to look spoke in the eyes.
"Take as long as you need, if you need any help with anything, we're all here for you"
Before returning to hug him tightly, Rain begins to fall, soaking them and the ground around them, its cold the sound of it hitting gravel and stone paths would send a cold shiver up anyone's spine. Spoke pulls away from the hug wiping the mix of tears and rain water from his face.
"I think... I might stay here a little longer"
"Alright then"
Parrot gets up to leave, walking away he turns to spoke, a sombre look on his face, he can't bare to see one of his friends like this, he notices someone walking up from the graveyard the opposite way he came from. It's Jumper. She sits down beside spoke on the bench overlooking the gravestone, she clearly upset at this as well, but she seems to be holding together a bit better than spoke. They're both staring at the grave as cold rain pours onto them spoke speaks in a sad drained voice.
"Did you manage to find anything that he might have left behind?"
Looking down at the ground now Jumper breaks the news to him.
"No, I couldn't find anything, he really is gone."
"Look Spoke I-"
Jumper is cut off by spoke hugging her, the rain is getting heavier washing all the dirt and grit off of the gravestones in the graveyard. They pull away from the hug, Jumper says turning to the gravestone in front of them.
"I think he would have really liked it, you did a good job."
"Thanks..."
"Maybe its best we get out of the rain Spoke"
"Perhaps.."
Spoke starts to get up from the bench shaking, Jumper quickly goes to help him up a little. They don't want to be out in the rain for too much longer otherwise their clothes will be completely saturated by it. Spoke gets his balance and begins to walk away with Jumper to somewhere a bit more dry. As they're walking away Spoke turns his head to get one last glance at the gravestone before they leave and it's out of sight. He stops in his tracks for a brief moment to stare at the tombstone from afar.
"It's cruel Jumper..."
Jumper turns to him
"Why did it have to be him why not me why him of all people, I mean it's just..."
The sound of thunder ripples through the sky above them.
"Spoke I... I'm sorry"
Spoke turns away from Gravestone walking past Jumper clearly in a rush somewhere but where could he possibly be going. Jumper yells to him now that he's ahead of her.
"Spoke Where are you going?"
"I Just.. Want to be away from everything right now."
He throws a pearl as hard as he can out of the graveyard and into a near by forest. Footsteps come up behind Jumper she's stuck in place she just wanted to help spoke but does he even want help, Someone places their hand on Her shoulder she quickly jolts around. It's parrot.
"Just let him go Jumper."
"But what if he ends up hurting himself what if-"
"Jumper he's grieving, everyone grieves in their own way, if he wants to be left alone right now its best that you let him"
He's right and Jumper knows it, its best to leave him alone at the moment. Spoke walks through the forest looking for something pearling when he can to hopefully get there quicker. His tears dripping down his face getting lost with the rain. He spots it in the forest, a large clearing opening up the forest to the cloud covered sky. A large area covered in numerous amounts of roses lay before him. Spoke looks upon it, he's found what he was looking for. A clear area in the roses lay in the middle big enough for him to lay down in. The ground is wet and soggy. Cold. The image of the grave flashes briefly in his head as he goes to close his eyes. Their final moments replaying constantly like a curse. In a soft voice he speaks to himself.
"I just wish... We could have spent more time together... Not on the run from anything... Not fighting some big evil... Just having playing the game..."
The wind howls through the forest surrounding him the flowers drift and sway with the wind a single petal from a wilted rose blows in the wind landing on his face softly. Like a nod to who he's lost a dying rose. Spoke thinks of the grave again, the flowers, the people he's met, the things he's done, the places he's been and the people he's fought. He was by his side for all of. Spoke body tired from all the emotions begins to fall asleep in the flowers. He thinks of what he wrote, on the gravestone.
"Here lies Mapicc, the greatest friend anyone could have ever asked for."
