Chapter Text
Eli grew up in a very boring house, with a very boring family.
Their mother, Laurie, was the daughter of some important New York politician - but they really couldn’t care less what their grandfather did, or what any of their family was involved in for that matter. Because of their grandfathers profession, their family was very formal and tried to appear neat and respectable, and believed in image above everything else.
Eli’s house looked more like an interior design magazine cover than a home where people lived. They were expected to match it; formal clothes, neutral colours, practiced smiles, and polite behaviour. They were taught that any sort of loudness, drama, or bright colour was wrong. For a while they tried to be a good kid. They sat still, didn’t raise their voice, behaving like an accessory - no personality, no self-expression- like their mother wanted. But man, it was boring as hell.
Eventually they’d had enough.
They started expressing their personality more. They dressed more colorfully, acted out, and were their loud, dramatic self.
As time went on they developed their style and their personality grew. They started to develop a more colourful vocabulary, which they were reprimanded for multiple times by their mother. They were constantly fighting all the rules and restrictions their family set, much to their mothers dismay.
At school they weren’t much better, constantly fidgeting, talking out of turn, and breaking rules. They did not have many friends, because who would want to be friends with the kid who was constantly getting in trouble and changing schools? They were constantly left out of activities, always the last one to be picked for group projects. Since they did not have many friends, they protected the ones they did have with all their might. In grade 7 they met Lichen, their satyr friend.
