Chapter Text

TERESA

"Teresa.. Stay with your…" Someone's voice was echoing in my mind.

In panic, I kept glancing around, checking for anything.

The voice was getting louder, more urgent.

"Your… Br…her..!"

It was a woman's voice. The sounds of alarms and shouting filled my surroundings.

I started running.

Where? I don't know.

All I knew was to run.

"Hello?!" I shouted.

"Brother!" I screamed.

Everything was blurry, like rushing past crowds of people.

I kept calling out to him, to someone I don't remember.

"Brother!"

.

"Thomas!" I gasped awake, a glimpse of the sky above me and a crowd murmuring before I felt my eyes grow heavy once more.

.

By the time I woke up again, I found myself staring at a wooden ceiling.

Slowly sitting up, I took in my surroundings.

Make shift beds and tables covered with herbs and different tools.

It was simple but kinda homey.

Then I heard the door shifting and opening.

I was face to face with a stranger.

"Woah, hey-" He was tall, Having to bend his head down just to get through the door.

"Where am I?" I kept my body facing him, but I couldn't just sit here. I pushed myself off the bed, keeping my eyes on him.

"Wait, okay," He had his hands raised, the closer he got the more I got to see his face, eyes blue, dirty blonde hair. "Let's not get hasty aight? I'll-"

I grabbed a nearby bottle and raised it up to him, my body on fight or flight mode. "Back up!"

Hearing me shout, he quickly stopped moving forward and raised his hands so that I could see his palms.

"I promise I ain't a threat-"

But I didn't hear him out. I was quick to rush past him, his hand barely grazing my back.

I ran past the tree line, my eyes winching from the bright light.

Stopping in the middle of the grass, the sound around me slowly filled my ears.

Chattering of men, sounds of bugs, and a mechanical scraping sound far off into the distant.

Looking around me, I could see the large concrete walls encasing this green-scape.

"Where the hell am I?" I mumbled to myself before noticing the many eyes now on me.

"Hey lady!" A voice shouted out to me.

Looking towards the direction of the voice, there was a group of boys coming up to me.

Panic set in again, I looked around for any safe spot I could get too and I was quick to spot a tall manmade building nearby.

With adrenaline filling my body, I dashed for the wooden lookout.

Shouting following me from behind.

I was quick to climb up the makeshift ladder, pulling myself up with no problem.

"Hey! Get down from there!" That voice was from the guy I first saw when I woke up.

I reached the top and glanced down at them, a good portion of the boys where waiting down below.

"We just want to talk!" A softer sounding voice called out. He was shorter than the first boy, brown eyes and fair skin, but still blonde.

But I couldn't shake fear off myself. I didn't know where I was, all I knew it was.. Dangerous.

"Gally! Don't try to go up!" The shorter one shouted and when I looked towards the ladder, I saw the first boy trying to get up.

Gally huh?

"She just woke up! Who knows what she'll do!" He shouted back while he tried to take a step up, but I wasn't going to let it happen.

"Get away!" I screamed and threw the bottle I was holding down onto him.

Then everything went into chaos.

Shouting and luckily, there was stuff up here which I used to defend this tower.

.

It went on for a few minutes, them calling me down but I just couldn't trust them.

They shouted a few things at me, telling me that it's okay here, that no one really knows this place but I didn't believe them.

They also told me a name I said when I first arrived, Thomas.

But I don't remember any face matching to that name.

I kept throwing items, but I was slowly using up what's left of the items up here.

"Hey! Throw one more of those things and I'll-" The taller boy shouted but I couldn't care enough, I threw a rock that hit him right on the head. "Ow!" I heard his shout from below.

"Leave me alone!" I shouted back.

Then a new voice started shouting up at me. "Hey! We just want to talk to you!" He shouted, but they were all the same to me, a danger.

I threw more of whatever my hands touched. They panicked below before the guy suddenly said the words that made me stop.

"It's Thomas! It's Thomas!"

My hands instinctively stopped.

"I'm heading up there okay?" He continued.

I peaked over the edge, he had brown hair like mine and dark brown eyes. He felt so familiar. But instead of replying, I just hid back away, but I won't throw anything anymore.

They told me his name was the one I called out too, so I thought I should at least see him for myself.

I heard him tell the others that it'll just be him climbing up and I scrambled around to find something to defend myself, just in case.

My hands gripped tightly on a machete stuck onto one of the pillars and the moment he stepped onto the platform, I raised the machete up to him.

"Woah woah!" He stopped his movement and raised a hand up.

"Where the hell am I?" I tried to speak sternly but my voice cracked and my hands were trembling.

"Why can't I remember anything?" I kept my guard up and my eyes locked on Thomas.

He slowly moved closer. "Okay, it's, it's all normal okay? We've all been through this, all of us." He stepped closer. "Now your name.. Now that will-"

"Teresa." I cut him off before he could finish talking. "That's the one thing I remember, Teresa is my name."

He just stared at me before gently holding the top of the machete. "okay, well, that's good. I'm Thomas." He spoke gently. It let me feel a little at ease. "For now let's just.. Take this away."

He fully grabbed the machete and I saw his body give a whole exhale. "But, I guess you already knew my name right?" He gave a smile but when I didn't react he just felt awkward.

"They said I called your name." I started. "But I don't remember you, or anything at all."

But I do feel the familiarity. Like I've seen those eyes before and I think he felt the same.

"What's going on up there?" Gally, I think, shouted.

Thomas stood up and leaned over the railing.

Another voice rung out, a softer one. "Is she coming down?"

Thomas glanced back at me for a moment, before looking back down at the ones shouting. "Just uh, just give us a minute okay?"

There was a bit of silence before another voice, the shorter one most likely, called them away. "Alright, cmon, let's go."

.

After a bit of talking, I felt a bit more comfortable.

No one really knew how or why they were sent here. It was even weirder that I was the only girl and a note that said I was the last one.

"What does that mean?" I whispered while staring at the note.

"I don't know." Thomas replied while we sat at the edge of the lookout, overlooking the Glade. Which is what Thomas told me was, this place.

"Now the box hasn't gone down since you got here. So it just got everyone a little worried." He continued. "Especially Gally."

I followed his gaze to the tall boy from before watching us from across the field near the treeline.

Arms crossed while he paced around.

"He blames me for it doesn't he?"

Thomas didn't reply, but I knew the answer from the silence.

"You really don't remember anything?" He asked again while we sat.

I thought about it harder, there was one thing.

"This voice, a woman's voice, kept calling out to me, saying-"

"Wicked is good?" Thomas finished my sentence while looking at me.

"Yeah, but I don't know who or where it's from."

"Yeah, I don't either." Then he just stared at his hands, picking at his nails.

"But no one is supposed to be remembering anything else right?" I asked.

He just nodded while he looked off to the walls. "Why.. Are we so different?"

I stared at the rest of the boys walking and talking down below. Everyone who has just accepted their fate to be here.

I placed my hand on my thighs to try and wipe the sweat, but then I felt something in my pocket.

Taking them out, they were tubes that had a blue visible liquid inside.

"Hey, Thomas." I called out before showing it to him. "Maybe you'd know what to do with these?"

He stared at the items in my hand before his eyes seem to change, like he remembered something.

Quickly grabbing the tubes, he stared at me with such determination. "We need to find Newt."
