Work Text:

Piers was trembling behind his slew of parliamentary documents that covered his face. Alan had told him earlier that day of a "serious, one-to-one meeting" that would require his full attention. Piers could remember Alan's stern expression and cold, calculating tone. It made him shiver. This usually meant that Piers had royally fucked up in some manner and he was going to pay for it severely. Essentially, it was a normal day in the office.

Much to Fletcher-Dervish's dismay, Alan entered the room, closing the door agonisingly slowly and going as far as to lock it. He made his way to his desk and lent on it, facing the timid man before him.

"Piers, come out of hiding, won't you?" Alan's scarily calm voice caused Piers to peep over his papers. In a weird way, it was almost reassuring.

Just like earlier that day, their eyes met. Piers' exuded fear, anticipating some form of torture. Alan's however, were practically unreadable. Even so, though, there was a hint of something genuine. Perhaps love? It seemed impossible, but deep down there was an unmistakable warmth to his usually chilling gaze. Alan drew in a breath.

"Come here," he commanded.

Even with legs like jelly, Piers mindlessly obeyed. That had always been their dynamic - Alan gets what Alan wants, and Piers provides it. He moved to stand between the desk and the Tory.

"Closer."

Piers gulped, but made the move. He walked until Alan was satisfied, which was mere centimetres apart. Their noses were almost touching, Piers' shaky breath was now audible, and Alan was as clear to the eye as ever. Piers swore he could make out a hint of blush arising on the other man's face.

"This is incredibly important, Piers. I don't want you telling anyone about this and god so help me if you do. Do you understand?" Once again, Alan was stern, but there was a hint of desperation in his voice. Whatever was about to occur could not get out there.

"Yes, sir."

"Good. If you fuck this up you're never seeing this face nor this office ever again."

"I get that Alan, but, what is 'this'-"

Before Piers could begin to question what Alan was implying, he was drawn into a harsh kiss.

Despite completely catching him off-guard, he found himself reciprocating it, enjoying it, even. Alan had ferociously taken Piers towards him, gripping the back of his head to keep him stable. Yet, for once, there was no intention to harm. His hands cradled Piers' head, maintaining a strong but careful grip. His lips were soft, looking to get as much of Piers as possible in a tender embrace.

Eventually, Alan pulled away, his breath hot and heavy. He had a look of vulnerability that Piers hadn't seen since he was put on trial to be hanged. His cheeks were a bright pink and his golden curls had been ruffled in his desperation. For a brief moment, the two men simply took each other in, mentally noting each and every perfection in the other's face. Alan swallowed heavily, a lump forming in his throat.

"I love you, Piers. I can't deny it any longer. Think about it: we love to hate each other and we depend on one another. You barely function when I'm away and I wouldn't be able to bear seeing you outside of this office and out of my life."

Piers remained silent. Even though they had just kissed, these words were very uncharacteristic for a man like Alan. He was never one to freely express emotion other than anger or elation at someone elses expense.

"Piers please-"

"I love you too, Alan. I admit that the more time we have spent together the closer I have become to you, cultivating in a feeling of love. It would be an honour to be your boyfriend."

Alan was nothing short of relieved. He got exactly what he wanted - a boyfriend in Piers. Although, he would have to come to terms with that fact, and it would be a long road to traverse. He simply nodded and went to sit at his desk, head slumped in his hands. He had won Piers' love, but now he had to make peace with his status as a gay man.

They had been together for no longer than a minute, but Piers wasn't going to let his boyfriend suffer alone. In a bold move for him, we went to Alan and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. It surprised him, causing him to jolt up and for his eyes to well up with tears. Piers looked down at him softly.

"It's okay you know, Alan. I know we're of the Tory party and all but there's nothing wrong with being gay. It's a natural part of life that comes to many people, including us. And, between you and me, it's not like Major's gonna know. If he is to somehow find out, he won't remember it!"

The comment made Alan laugh a little. Piers was right really - who cares? The prime minister was as bright as a blown out candle and the MPs could be easily bribed to keep their mouths shut. He looked to see Alan's almost beaming face, proud of his own joke. It would have originally been a sickening sight, but, right now, Alan needed it. It provided a sense of security.

"For once, you're right Piers. But this is a state secret, okay? I'll be damned if anyone finds out I'm dating you of all men."

"You have my word, sir, for I'll be just the same."

Alan smiled and the two embraced. He rested his head on Piers' shoulder, experiencing comfort he hadn't felt since his early childhood. For once, he was going to be okay. Especially now that Piers was by his side for life.
