Nothing New, Really

Summary:

During BTS ARIRANG Tour, the members come to one horrifying realization:
Kim Seokjin and Jeon Jungkook have become disgustingly domestic.

Or...

Many times the members witnessed Jin and Jungkook being way too comfortable on tour, and they realized they might not mind it so much after all. 💜

Work Text:

The first time the members noticed it was during their rehearsal for the ARIRANG Tour.

Not because Jin and Jungkook were doing anything outrageous.

Actually, that was the problem.

They looked too comfortable.

Too natural.

Too married.

“Kim Seokjin.”

Jin looked up from fixing the sleeve of his oversized white stage shirt. “Hm?”

Hobi pointed dramatically toward the center of the stage where Jungkook was crouched by Jin’s in-ear monitor pack, carefully adjusting the cable like he worked for the staff team.

“You know staff-nim exists, right?”

Jungkook didn’t even look offended. “I can do it faster.”

“That’s not the point,” Namjoon said, already laughing.

Jin blinked innocently. “He’s just helping.”

A collective groan echoed through the empty arena.

“Oh my god,” Jimin muttered. “He’s doing the voice again.”

“The husband defense voice,” Yoongi added from his chair without even looking up from his phone.

Jin’s ears immediately turned pink.

“There’s no voice.”

“There is,” Taehyung said. “You sound exactly like someone whose boyfriend just carried all his bags.”

Jungkook finally stood, satisfied with the wire placement, and lightly patted Jin’s waist before walking away.

The entire group froze.

Jin froze too.

Jungkook did not.

“What?” Jungkook asked casually, grabbing a water bottle.

Namjoon stared at him. “You can’t just do that in front of us anymore.”

“Do what?”

“The waist thing.”

“The—” Jungkook genuinely looked confused before realization hit him. “Oh.”

“OH?” Hobi repeated. “That’s your response?”

Jungkook shrugged with zero shame. “I forgot you guys get shocked easily.”

Jimin collapsed onto the stage floor laughing.

Meanwhile Jin looked like he wanted the ground to swallow him whole.

“We are literally acting the same,” Jin insisted weakly.

Yoongi finally glanced up. “No, before you two looked suspicious. Now you look domestically committed.”

“That’s worse,” Taehyung agreed.

Jungkook grinned proudly.

And that grin alone told everyone everything.

The ARIRANG Tour had been going on for one month now, and apparently somewhere between Seoul and Mexico, Jungkook had stopped caring about subtlety.

Not enough to create actual scandal.

Just enough to drive the members insane.

It started with little things.

Jungkook always waiting for Jin before leaving rooms.

Holding drinks for him without asking.

Fixing Jin’s mic pack.

Remembering his schedules better than managers did.

Making sure Jin ate after rehearsals.

Standing too close.

Looking too fond.

The staring was honestly the biggest problem.

“You know cameras zoom now, right?” Namjoon asked one night backstage in Tokyo.

Jungkook looked up from where Jin was half asleep against his shoulder on the couch.

“Yeah.”

“And you still stare at him like that.”

“How am I staring?”

Five exhausted members turned toward him at once.

“Like he invented happiness,” Yoongi answered flatly.

Jungkook blinked.

Then he looked down at Jin again, softer somehow.

“I mean,” he said quietly, “he kinda did.”

The room exploded.

Hobi screamed.

Jimin started hitting the couch cushion repeatedly.

Taehyung slid off his chair laughing.

Namjoon covered his face.

And Jin woke up in confusion.

“What happened?”

“You happened,” Jimin cried.

Jin narrowed his eyes suspiciously before looking at Jungkook. “What did you say?”

“Nothing.”

“Jeon Jungkook.”

Jungkook only smiled.

Which was basically a confession by itself.

Jin genuinely believed they were still careful.

Compared to what he wanted to do sometimes, this was restraint.

Yes, Jungkook touched him more now.

Yes, Jin unconsciously leaned into him more often.

Yes, they shared hotel rooms whenever possible because sleeping apart after years together felt ridiculous.

But they still respected boundaries.

Still maintained professionalism.

Still understood they were idols.

That should count for something.

Unfortunately, nobody else agreed.

“You literally fed him yesterday,” Taehyung said during dinner in Tokyo.

Jin nearly choked on his rice.

“I was holding something!”

“With both hands?” Yoongi asked.

Jungkook looked completely unbothered. “He was busy.”

“You used the tiny voice,” Jimin accused.

“What tiny voice?”

Jimin imitated Jungkook perfectly.

“Hyung, open.”

The table lost it immediately.

Even staff nearby were trying not to laugh.

Jin hid his face behind his hands.

“I hate all of you.”

“No you don’t,” Hobi sang.

Jungkook gently peeled one of Jin’s hands away from his face.

“You’re cute when embarrassed.”

“Oh my god,” Namjoon whispered dramatically. “There’s no saving us.”

Jin glared at Jungkook. “You’re making it worse.”

“How?”

“You keep saying things!”

“Because they’re true?”

“You can think them quietly!”

“But why?”

Jungkook sounded genuinely curious.

That somehow made it worse.

The real disaster happened in Tampa.

In the hotel elevator at almost two in the morning.

The members had just returned from dinner, exhausted and loud in the way only BTS could be after midnight.

Jin was half asleep already, leaning against the elevator wall while scrolling through his phone.

Jungkook stood beside him.

Close enough that their shoulders touched.

Nobody thought anything of it anymore.

Then the elevator jerked slightly to a stop.

Jin stumbled.

And without hesitation, Jungkook caught him by the waist and pulled him in automatically.

It was instinct.

Natural.

Effortless.

Jin mumbled a sleepy, “Thanks, baby,” before relaxing directly against Jungkook’s chest.

Silence.

Absolute silence.

The elevator might as well have stopped moving entirely.

Jin’s eyes widened.

Slowly.

Very slowly.

Jungkook looked down at him.

The members stared like witnesses at a crime scene.

Then Taehyung inhaled so sharply he started coughing.

Jimin turned around and hit the wall repeatedly in silent hysterics.

Hobi was fully bent over.

Namjoon looked spiritually exhausted.

Yoongi just nodded like a man finally proven right.

Jin jerked away so fast he almost hit the elevator buttons.

“I—”

Nobody let him finish.

“BABY?” Jimin shrieked.

“You call him BABY publicly now?” Hobi cried.

“It slipped out!” Jin defended immediately.

Jungkook looked unbearably pleased.

The worst part?

He wasn’t teasing.

He looked genuinely happy.

“Cute,” he murmured.

“Don’t encourage this!”

“You called me baby.”

“In private!”

“You forgot we weren’t alone?”

“Yes!”

“That’s kinda adorable though.”

Jin looked seconds away from combusting.

Meanwhile Jungkook looked like he had just won an award.

After Tampa, the teasing became relentless.

Every tiny interaction got noticed.

Jungkook carrying Jin’s jacket?

Whipped.

Jin fixing Jungkook’s hair?

Disgusting.

The two of them disappearing after schedules together?

Suspicious.

One time Jungkook absentmindedly kissed Jin’s shoulder backstage while talking to staff.

The room went so quiet even the stylists froze.

Jin nearly fainted.

Jungkook realized it three seconds later.

“Oh.”

“OH?” Namjoon repeated for probably the hundredth time that tour.

Jungkook rubbed the back of his neck, finally looking a little embarrassed.

“I forgot.”

“You forgot people can SEE?”

“I do it a lot at home.”

Jimin actually screamed into a pillow.

Meanwhile Jin sat on the makeup chair with both hands over his face.

“You’re all dramatic,” he muttered weakly.

Yoongi stared at him in disbelief. “You’re defending him again.”

“Because it wasn’t a big deal.”

“He kissed you during work.”

“It was my shoulder!”

“That is NOT helping your argument,” Hobi yelled.

Jungkook only laughed quietly before walking over and squeezing Jin’s hand once.

Soft.

Quick.

Easy.

Like breathing.

The members immediately started shouting again.

Despite all the teasing, there was something warm underneath it.

Because the truth was—

The members had watched this relationship from the beginning.

From years of uncertainty and hidden glances.

From almosts and maybes.

From fear.

Back then, Jin and Jungkook had been careful to the point of heartbreak sometimes.

Always second-guessing.

Always worried.

Always holding themselves back.

So seeing this now?

This quiet confidence?

This comfort?

It made the teasing worth it.

Even if they’d never admit that out loud.

Well.

Most of them.

One night after a concert in El Paso, Jin stepped onto the hotel balcony to breathe for a bit.

The city lights stretched endlessly below.

A few seconds later, the balcony door slid open.

Namjoon stepped outside holding two cups of tea.

“You disappeared.”

“I needed air.”

Namjoon handed him one cup.

For a moment they stood quietly together.

Then Namjoon smiled slightly.

“You know we tease because it’s weirdly emotional, right?”

Jin snorted softly. “Emotional?”

“You two are happier now.”

Jin glanced at him.

Namjoon continued carefully.

“Before, you looked careful all the time. Even when you were together.” He shrugged. “Now Jungkook looks like he can breathe.”

Jin’s expression softened immediately.

Because he knew exactly what Namjoon meant.

Jungkook had changed recently.

Not personality-wise.

Just… lighter.

Less afraid.

“I still worry sometimes,” Jin admitted quietly.

“Of course you do.”

“It’s not just us.”

“I know.”

Jin stared down at the steaming tea.

“But he’s right too,” he murmured after a moment.

Namjoon smiled knowingly. “About?”

“Not wanting to hide every little thing anymore.”

The balcony door opened again before Namjoon could answer.

Jungkook peeked outside first.

His eyes immediately found Jin.

Like always.

“There you are.”

The softness in his voice made Namjoon roll his eyes instantly.

“See? That voice.”

Jungkook ignored him completely and walked over to Jin instead.

“You disappeared.”

“He literally just said the same thing,” Jin pointed out.

“Yeah but mine is boyfriend-coded.”

Namjoon gagged dramatically.

Jin burst into helpless laughter.

Jungkook only grinned before slipping his cold hands into Jin’s hoodie pockets.

Natural.

Familiar.

Loved.

Namjoon watched them for a second before shaking his head fondly.

“You know what? Maybe you should scare the staff a little.”

Jin looked horrified.

Jungkook looked interested.

“Hyung,” Namjoon warned immediately.

Too late.

Jungkook’s eyes were sparkling now.

“No,” Jin said instantly.

“But imagine—”

“No.”

“What if I hold your hand during the whole encore?”

“Jeon Jungkook.”

“What? For sanity of our staff, I’m still holding back.”

Namjoon nearly dropped his tea laughing.

Jin stared at Jungkook in disbelief. “You think this is holding back?”

“Absolutely.”

“That’s terrifying.”

Jungkook leaned closer with a smug smile. “You love me.”

Unfortunately, Jin’s silence answered too quickly.

Namjoon made the loudest fake vomiting sound yet.

“Okay, I’m leaving. I suddenly miss Yoongi.”

He disappeared back inside while laughing to himself.

Jin sighed dramatically the second the door shut.

“You encourage them.”

“No,” Jungkook corrected softly. “They encourage us.”

Jin looked at him carefully then.

Really looked.

At the warmth in his eyes.

At the comfort there now.

At the complete absence of fear.

And maybe that was why Jin couldn’t even properly scold him anymore.

Because after everything they’d survived together—

This happiness mattered more.

“You really don’t care anymore?” Jin asked quietly.

Jungkook’s expression softened immediately.

“I care about protecting us,” he said. “I care about the members. Staff. The team.” Then he smiled faintly. “But being happy with you? I stopped feeling guilty about that a long time ago.”

Jin’s chest tightened painfully with affection.

Even now.

After all these years.

Jungkook still said things that made him feel teen again.

“You’re too good at talking lately,” Jin muttered.

Jungkook laughed softly.

“That’s because you finally let me.”

Then, before Jin could respond, Jungkook gently bumped their shoulders together.

Small.

Safe.

Subtle enough.

Inside the hotel room behind them, someone suddenly yelled—

“IF YOU KISS OUT THERE WE’RE CHARGING ADMISSION!”

Jin almost dropped his tea.

Jungkook burst into loud laughter.

“See?” Jin groaned. “No peace.”

But he was smiling.

And Jungkook noticed that too.

Of course he did.

He noticed everything about Jin.

Always had.

So Jungkook leaned closer one last time and whispered just quietly enough—

“Still worth it though.”

Jin tried very hard not to smile bigger.

Failed completely.

And somewhere inside the hotel room, five grown men started screaming all over again.
