Unstable High

Summary:

It's a new school year at Unstable High, which means new people, new faces, and more chaos.

This story follows the main four of Unstable Universe, with a lot of side character story as well! There's something for all fans here.

Notes:

Hello! This is actually not my first fanfic, but it is here on Ao3! I really hope you enjoy it.

This is an High School Unstable Universe AU made by yours truly. I originally had the idea to make this a gacha series on YouTube, which I very well might do in the future, but for now it's just going to be a written series. A very, very long series(hopefully). But for now, please enjoy!

There are more notes at the end!

Chapter 1: Biting nerves and anxiety

Notes:

Chapter Text

When Wemmbu saw the letter stuffed into his mailbox, he almost wondered if it was sent to the wrong address. 𝘈𝘭𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵.

It was sent from a well-known school, Unstable High. Addressed to Wemmbu himself, his legal name written in fine text below his address. 'Wemmbu Tech.'

His fingers grasped the letter in his hand as he stepped inside his house. The comforting warmth and salty smell of dinner cooking eased Wemmbu's shaking hands, even if it was only a little. He dropped his bag down by the door and kicked his sneakers off before making his way to the kitchen.

His father, MinuteTech, stood at the stove, mixing a pot of chicken soup and golden carrots. The savoury scent of the chicken mixed with the sweet smell of golden carrots, a comfort meal Wemmbu always gladly stuffed his mouth with.

"Hi Minute." He said, his voice calm despite the visible shake in his hands and his demon tail that swayed anxiously behind him.

Minute's eyes flickered up from the pot, a smile appearing on his face. "Welcome home, Wemmbu. How was your day?"

"It was alright." Wemmbu replied, slumping into his chair at the dinner table. He tossed the letter onto the table in front of him, which caught Minute's eye.

"What's that?"

"A letter for me."

"Who is it from?" Minute asked, his eyes drifting back to the pot he was still stirring.

Wemmbu hesitated to answer. He didn't know why he was nervous, it was just a school. It wasn't a fancy school, nor was it a pristine school, but it was a school for anyone, and that was what scared Wemmbu. He didn't know what to expect if he went, just the name 'Unstable' worried him.

"It's...from Unstable High." He finally muttered out, his voice strained.

"Oh? I was wondering when that would come through."

Wemmbu blinked, then shot his head up to look at Minute. "What are you talking about?"

Minute looked at Wemmbu with a soft smile. "I signed you up to attend that school."

Wemmbu faltered, his hands momentarily freezing. Minute had signed him up to attend Unstable High?

"Why!?"

Minute placed the wooden spoon he had been using to stir the soup into the sink, grabbing out two bowls, one for him, one for Wemmbu. "I think it'll be a great school for you, Wemmbu. It's diverse, there's plenty of species there that you can get along with and be friends with. I know you're a bit of a loner at school."

Wemmbu's cheeks flushed a light pink colour as Minute exposed him. "So what if I don't hang around people? I don't need friends." He scoffed, turning his head to the side and crossing his arms.

Minute sighed heavily. Always so stubborn. "Everyone needs friends, Bu." He poured some soup into the bowl for Wemmbu, then placed it down in front of the purple demon. "Having friends doesn't make you weak or pathetic, it's a natural occurrence in life."

Wemmbu grumbled, reaching for his spoon, only to be met with Minute's hand rested softly over the spoon. He lifted his head, looking up at Minute.

"Please, just try it out? You won't know if you hate it until you try it." Minute softly pleaded, looking into Wemmbu's eyes with those blinding white eyes that brought Wemmbu so much comfort.

Wemmbu lowered his head to the steamy bowl of chicken and golden carrot soup, watching the light catch on the gold. He knew Minute was right, he had no clue what it was like, not unless he went there himself.

"...When do I start?"

Minute smiled to himself at Wemmbu's reply, moving his hand away from the boy's spoon. He walked back to the pot of soup, pouring himself a bowl.

"You start after next week. So you have enough time to think about it." He sat down across from Wemmbu who had already started devouring his soup like it was going to run away.

Wemmbu hummed in acknowledgement, stuffing his mouth with more of the delicious soup. Minute was seriously an amazing cook, his food always tasted amazing. It didn't help that Wemmbu loved golden carrots more than anything.

He had a week to think about it. A week to decide if he would go to Unstable High. It couldn't be that bad, right?

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Turns out, it very much could be.

Wemmbu had decided he was going to attend Unstable High, at least to see how it was. He chose to actually wear the uniform properly for his first day. The uniform consisted of a plain white shirt with a red tie, topped with a beige uniform blazer over the top with the Unstable High signature. The pants were basic brown ones. He hated the uniform, there was no purple, and purple was his favourite colour.

He brushed his teeth and spent a good 20 minutes styling his long, silky purple hair. It was growing quite well, just making it below his butt. He felt proud of his hair, it was the one thing he cared most about.

He tied it up in a good ol fashioned ponytail and styled his bangs before topping his look with a gold tiara. He remembers when he got this tiara. He was a little boy, and at the time it was definitely too big for him, but he just had to have it. Minute brought for him, and any time he can, Wemmbu is seen wearing it. The only times he doesn't wear it is to bed(obviously) and when he's just woken up. It was part of his whole look at this point.

Wemmbu checked himself in the mirror once more before finally walking out of the bathroom. He made his way into the kitchen, his gaze landing on Minute who was busy cooking Wemmbu breakfast.

"Good morning." Minute said when he noticed Wemmbu. His eyes drifted over the Unstable High uniform Wemmbu was wearing. It was a perfect fit, and it was a little custom made for Wemmbu too. There was a tiny hole in the pants to fit Wemmbu's demon tail. Minute remembered the lady who he met to get the uniform altered and what she had said.

"𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘥𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴. 𝘛𝘳𝘺 𝘤𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘻𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘬𝘪𝘥𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴." She had joked.

Wemmbu sat down at the table once more. His stomach started to twist a little. The anxiety was washing over him again and that fear of going to this school was coming back.

"Hey," Minute called out, noticing Wemmbu's anxiousness. He placed a plate with eggs and toast in front of Wemmbu. "Don't worry, alright? You'll be fine."

Minute's reassurance was nice to Wemmbu, but it didn't remove the anxiousness he still had. What if he didn't make any friends? What if everyone thought he was weird or creepy? End demons, or just demons in general, were always treated differently. Everyone called them scary and creepy and all sort of horrible things. Wemmbu had experienced it a few times when he was younger, and he never dwelled on it for long since he was just a child. But now he was a teenager, and that stuff effected him more.

"Are you sure this is the right school?" Wemmbu asked, his voice shaky.

Minute stood beside Wemmbu's chair, bending down so he was eye level to Wemmbu. "Wemmbu, if I didn't think this was the right school, I wouldn't have signed you up to attend it. You trust me, right?"

That line always got Wemmbu.

Of course he trusted Minute. The guy saved him when no one else would. He was a father figure to Wemmbu, the only one Wemmbu had ever known. He trusted Minute with his life.

"Of course I do." He stated.

"Then there's nothing to fear. First days are always the hardest, but you'll get used to everyone, I am sure of it. You adjust to things quickly."

Wemmbu swallowed the saliva that had been building in his throat, looking at Minute for a moment before glancing aside. He sighed softly, his hands reaching up to grab his fork.

"Alright....."

Minute smiled. He leaned in, giving a soft kiss to Wemmbu's cheek before standing up. He would ruffle Wemmbu's hair, but that kid was very strict about it, especially after just styling it.

"You'll do great."

Wemmbu finished his breakfast slowly, drawing out the inevitable. Once his plate was cleared, he stood up and washed his dish. The anxiety was still there, yet Minute's words had dulled the nauseating feeling some.

Wemmbu walked to the front door, checking his purple bag to make sure he had everything. He didn't want to forget something on his first day of school, that would be bad.

Once he was triple sure he had everything, he slid his purple sneakers on, adding at least some purple to his outfit.

"I'm going now, Minute!" He called out, throwing his bag over his shoulders.

"Hold up!" Minute called back.

Wemmbu stood by the door, tapping his foot when he saw Minute walk over to him. He stopped right in front of Wemmbu, looking down at him with this proud smile that made Wemmbu's anxiety fade momentarily.

"You've got this." Minute said, placing a hand on Wemmbu's shoulder. He pulled the demon into a hug, and Wemmbu sunk into that familiar warmth. A small smile appeared on his face, and that anxiety and worry faded as he enjoyed the hug with his father.

"You're a good kid, Wemmbu. Don't let anyone's words effect you."

Well, that was easier said than done.

The walk to school was the easiest part of his day, though he felt like throwing up every 5 seconds. Why was his anxiety and nerves so bad? Did everyone feel like this on their first day at high school? He hoped he wasn't the only kid at this school that was nervous, or else he'd just feel pathetic.

"𝘋𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦'𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶." He never had before, but lately he was starting to hate the stares, hate the way people pulled their childrens closer whenever he walked past, hate the words people said when no one thought he could hear them. If he had learnt anything from watching movies, it was that teenagers could be the worst.

But he remembered Minute's other words. There were many species that went to Unstable High, maybe more demons like him. That was something he could look forward to.

Wemmbu hadn't even realised he was at the gates when he heard chatter. In front of him was a gate with the same Unstable High signature plastered on his shirt. The school was quite big, and it looked like it branched off to different buildings that surrounded the main part of the school.

Immediately, Wemmbu noticed just how many different species were at this school.

He saw all types of extra limbs, tails, wings, different skin textures and colours. He was more or less shocked. So many different species in one school couldn't be good, it just seemed like a big red flag. But regardless of Wemmbu's impressions, he could see people getting along. He could see birds getting along with other species who could easily tear them apart. He could even see normal humans getting along with some of the other species.

"Holy moly..." Wemmbu muttered to himself. Maybe all that anxiety and nervousness had been for nothing.

Notes:

Thank you for making it this far!

This first chapter obviously followed Wemmbu, but I will make chapters for each main four. If you guys think I should add multiple pov's in each chapter, do tell me.

I tried not writing too much in the first chapter, as I didn't want it to be such a long chapter. I wrote this surprisingly fast, so the updates may be quicker than I thought. I initially thought I'd update once a week, but I may be able to do two chapters a week! If you guys thought this was too short of a chapter(or too long), do tell me as well!

Also, if you have any suggestions, like certain characters by themselves or together with others, let me know! Most of the characters listed are more or less going to be in this story, but I am 100% open to ideas!

Buh-bye! c:
