Two lines….
“Of course it’s two lines” Reki muttered against his hand.
He’d been feeling sick for a while now, a month weeks to be exact. Pregnancy was the last thing that crossed his mind. The morning sickness was excused as the stomach bug that was going around school, the fatigue because it’s exams season.
After all, Reki had been really hoping to completely forget the fact that he’s biologically female, every time he had his period he clawed at his arms until they bled, sobbing as his boyfriend, Langa held him.
“Langa,” he thought “I’ve got to tell Langa…”
But as Reki got up from the cold tiles of the bathroom floor, he felt a rush of nausea and fell to the floor with a thump, vomiting into the toilet.
His mom, Masae heard the thump and came running in. She didn’t see the test at first, just her son, sobbing and heaving his lunch out into the toilet.
“M-mom…?” Reki murmured in a quivering voice. His voice was dry and raspy from the sobbing and heaving.
“Oh my sweet baby…. Reki…. Are you okay….?” Masae whispered, pulling Reki into a tight hug without asking. Just like she did when he was little… when she’d murmur “ (𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞)… sweetie… it’s okay…. Mommy’s got you…”
The way his mom is holding him so tenderly makes him sob into her chest even more. But even through his tears and hiccups and the nausea that’s still settled somewhere deep in his abdomen, he thinks to try to hide the tests.
He reaches for them, which are on the floor next to him, but Masae gets there first…
She takes one look at them all and says “Reki… dear…” and sighs.
