Work Text:

Pomegranate was left with a seeping emptiness in her heart after the death of her one, and true love. Although she knew that doom was awaiting her mistress, she wouldn't have expected what would await her next.

The stars were bright tonight, yet the night she shared once, would never be again.

She hated these stars. They reminded her of cookies she once knew.

Those stars reminded her of all of her past mistakes.

Oh, how she had wished to be one of the moon, or even the sea, if things hadn't fallen to darkness, would she have her true love with her now?

Pomegranate's stomach turned as she was left with her thoughts, her mind fritzed around with all of these feelings.

This time, she was truly alone.

With her mind, with her body. Walking down a path to who knows where…alone.

No dumb mouthed Licorice, who would banter with her until the sun had vanished. No unsettlingly positive remarks from the scientist that had terrorized Gingerbrave and his gang with his interesting creations, no childish mushroom who'd send every cookie he'd meet into a fiasco due to his poisonous fumes, no—

Suddenly, Pomegranate lost her balance, and tripped over her own robes, she yelped a bit, knowing nobody would hear her.

As she struggled to get herself up and balanced again, she had heard a soft but familiar voice in the distance behind her.

"Hello? Are you alright—?"

The girl came up to Pomegranate, holding her hand out, which was adorned with many beautiful jewels and crystals. Pomegranate looked up, and was met with the most beautiful woman she had seen before.

Beautiful glittering robes, dazzled with many blessings that the other priestess' had bestowed upon her, and even a jewel that resembled Pomegranate herself.

But…how could she be here now, and how didn't this woman recognize the one who had tried to ruin her life?

Was this her second chance?

Pomegranate accepted the woman's hand, pulling herself up and dusting her robe off, before looking up at the woman again, who was slightly taller than her, whom was looking down upon her.

Pomegranate's sins surely had caught up to her by now, this couldn't be real. This absolutely wasn't real. The witches had to be taunting her for failing her master…right?

"I-…I…"

This wasn't like her, she usually was assertive, and couldn't fathom the thought that she'd be so…nervous.

"I thank you…for helping me up."

The lady smiled, which had seemed genuine as far as she could tell, she felt her face grow slightly warm as she struggled to think of words to say.

She'd open her mouth, and then close it. Again and again, while the woman just stared at her smiling, or maybe even judging her for taking this futile chance.

"You're—…"

She knew she had to play this safe, even if she hadn't known what was happening, if it truly was real, she'd have to make the most of this.

Was it wrong to take advantage of this mishap? Maybe, but she couldn't let this chance escape her, not again.

"You're the Oracle, right?…Tell me, what are you doing out so late, so far from the Pantheon?"

"I was out for a stroll, the stars are quite beautiful, are they not?"

Pomegranate grimaced for a moment, but Starfruit hadn't a care in the world for that. Any company was nice for her.

"Yes…I agree."

"The stars guided me here, to you. I can't help but think of what wonders you have in store."

Truth be told, this was the worst time for this type of complexity to happen. Really, there couldn't be any true reason that fate would have to bring them together, right?

"The stars, they always have a reason, don't you think?"

Starfruit Cookie asked Pomegranate. Before she could respond she grabbed her hand enthusiastically, and beckoned her with the other.

"It's late, come with me and we can go back to the Pantheon together! I'll show you around."

The sweetness of her voice burned. She absolutely hated being reminded of everything she had done now. All for nothing.

As they walked together, Starfruit didn't let her hand go, maybe Pomegranate hadn't wanted her to though either.

They barely exchanged any words, but it seemed as they both enjoyed the walk, and Pomegranate, even if she hated to admit it…enjoyed her personal view of Starfruit even more than she'd ever like the sky, night or not.

With the lights coming up into the distance, they both knew they were close. Somewhere familiar for the both of them.

"We're almost there, I can't wait to show you! Ah, I'm sure you'll love the Planetarium! Or even—"

Pomegranate began to drown her voice out, nodding and smiling. Her happiness bugged something inside her, how could she be happy in a time like this? After all the war, and crumbling? Was this just a facade?

"Hey…are you alright?"

The lights had blinded her mind more and more as a voice came back to her, waking her up from the trance-like state she had been in.

"Yes…I'm fine. Please don't worry."

She'd hope that Starfruit could take the hint and quiet down, even a little. But that wasn't really what she truly wanted, was it?

"Ah, well, since we're here now…and it's late, I'll bring you to the sleeping quarters, we always have spare bedrooms, and then tomorrow, you can go back home!"

"Yes…of course."

Pomegranate followed the woman once again, behind her this time. She really was a beauty, but one she couldn't have, and that's what hurt the most.

But, it couldn't ever come close to how 'she' must've felt when everything happened.

Maybe it'd be nice to wake up about now, this was too good to be true, even for her standards.

Of course that wasn't the case.

Starfruit welcomed her into the quarters, and led her into a room, which looked suprisingly comfortable compared to some other places she had to sleep in the past year.

"Thank you, I appreciate your everlasting kindness."

"Of course! And, by the way…I never caught your name."

Pomegranate's face flushed red for just a moment, how could she forget to tell her that?

"Ah, right. My name is Pomegranate Cookie. I came from the Pomegranate village, I am a sorcerer."

"That sounds pleasant, and I apologize- I seem to have forgotten to introduce myself as well! My name is Starfruit cookie, but considering the fact that you already recognized me, you probably didn't need that introduction…"

She let out a soft chuckle before opening her mouth to speak once again.

"Well, since it's late…I don't want to keep pestering you, aha…a sorcerer needs her beauty sleep of course! So, i'd better leave you be."

The Oracle walked out, Pomegranate opened her mouth, she wanted to her to stay with her, to share this moment even for a second more…but no words had ever dared to come out.

She knew that would never happen.

Not in this universe.
