The relationship between a villain and a hero is an important matter when it comes to understanding this world.
When a hero defeats a villain, their world is destroyed.
Kit knows this—HAS known this—ever since she herself experienced it.
...
Kit is a hero.
No...
She WAS a hero.
...
The world blurs as Kit's mind pulls her back in time.
...
"We did it. We won!" Kit exclaims excitedly. After all this time they've finally done it! She and Kaboodle finally defeated the villain of her story.
Her chest beams with excitement and joy.
Kaboodle, her best friend and ally, smiles back at her, relieved and grinning with pride.
Kit breathes out happily.
...
The horizon explodes into a sea of red.
Kit's eyes widen frantically as she steps back in confusion and terror.
She turns around just soon enough to see the moon glitch violently, white being tinted with a surge of red and pink.
Kit winces as a burst of cold, chilling air blasts through the area she stands.
She hears the world crumble around her, and she braces herself as she grabs onto the platform below her. Letting go would mean being blown off into the sea of red—a terrible fate.
Kit winces again, watching helplessly as the world is shaken with a sudden and violent earthquake.
The air rings loudly around her.
Kit frantically glances back at Kaboodle, shaking as she tries to hold her ground.
Chunks of earth fall around them.
What is happening? Didn't they win?
Why is everything being destroyed?
Kit's thoughts are interrupted as the ground cracks beneath them. It starts small, but the damage spreads quickly.
She just barely realizes—almost too late—that it's aimed right at her.
Kit jumps to the side in panic, yelling out in pain as she lands face-first onto the hard ground beneath her.
The cracks explode again, bits of rubble erupting from where it had once been.
Kit's body aches from where she had fallen. She feels Kaboodle detach as the two cry out in terrified pain.
Kit quickly turns towards the damage in confusion.
Kaboodle's face flashes with rage and bewilderment. He yells out loudly.
Scanning the scene before them, Kaboodle's eyes narrow as he stares into the void. "What's going on? We beat 'em, didn't we?"
Kit's eyebrows furrow together in panicked thought. Her mind fills with questions, but not a single one is answered. "I don't—"
Kit turns again, looking behind her. "The village!"
Her home is there. That's where her friends are. Where her whole life is. That's the place she grew up.
Yet, instead of feeling fondly about the place, her mind races with memories as past events flash through her mind.
Are they going to be okay? Surely... They have to be.
But, as Kit watches the village—HER village—she hopes it isn't too late.
Grabbing Kaboodle in her arms, Kit leaps towards the edge of the platform she'd just defeated the villain on.
Beams of light erupt from the earth, showering the air with flashes of red.
The light grows larger and larger.
...
Kit knows that it's too late. She knows that everyone's going to die.
...
The red surrounds her—destroying the only home she'd ever known.
"No..." Kit breathes out, hair blowing behind her like a broken waterfall.
The light fades.
All she can see now is a glitching void. The rest of her world is gone.
Not even Kaboodle has anything to say. He turns to look at his friend.
Kit just squeezes him tighter, corners of her eyes filled with tears.
Her breathing shakens, tail curling closer to her body as the air flashes to monochrome.
Why is this happening?
She slumps down onto the ground, staring back at what was once her home.
Realization dawns on her as she finally grasps what exactly just happened.
Kit wipes at her eyes. The tears keep falling.
Kit slams down on the ground in anger, sobbing into the floor.
Everyone's gone.
Kit can only stare at her hands, the weight of the moment crashing down on her all at once.
It wasn't a glitch. It wasn't a bug.
...
Her world is gone.
...
All because of her.
