Work Text:
The bright sunlight of the late afternoon, maybe around five-thirty if Kanade had to guess, was streaming through a crack in the blackout curtains of her room, illuminating her workspace. Stray cans and papers littered the room, the usual. Mafuyu had virtually given up on trying to get Kanade to clean it, after the first three unsuccessful attempts. It was at least more “livable” than when Mafuyu first arrived that rainy day. However, the mess of Kanade’s room would not stop her from working on her composition. Every second that was spent cleaning was a second not spent saving Mafuyu, wasted time.
Speaking of Mafuyu, she was due to return from school anytime now. A routine now that she temporarily resided with Kanade. Kanade made a mental note to leave her room in 15 minutes, just to greet Mafuyu, lest she barges into her room.
Why not just wait in the kitchen until Mafuyu returns? Like a more normal person. Well, nothing was going to get in the way of Kanade’s composition. Not her dirty room, not anyone telling her to simply “take it easy” and care for herself, not even the submerged-esque feeling forming. The feeling of pressure on her head, her runny nose, trembling hands, the consistent closing of her eyes, and the slowing of her hands.
…
Time really does fly fast when you're out of it. One second, Kanade was adjusting the pitch on part of the song to see how it fit. The next second, her chair is abruptly turned around, and she is met with a “pouty,” if even that, Mafuyu. She was not wearing her school uniform, signifying that she had been home for some time now.
“You didn’t greet me today when I got home.” Mafuyu said very monotonously. Making direct eye contact with Kanade, who only shriveled under the scrutinizing stare.
“Ah…I’m sorry, Mafuyu. I guess I got carried away. I was planning on waiting for you in the kitchen. And then- ah?”
Kanade was cut short by Mafuyu pressing her hand to her forehead.
“M-Mafuyu? What’re you doing??”
“You look very pale…and you are burning up.”
“Oh…I am?”
“Yes, I think it’s time you rested for a bit.”
Mafuyu spoke, reaching over the desk to shut off Kanade’s pc.
“Wait, wait, wait!!! I need to finish the bridge of this and fix the key!”
Kanade tried to push Mafuyu’s hand away from the power button, only for Mafuyu to put her hands over Kanade’s to then redirect her to the mouse, then the “save” button. Successfully saving Kanade’s progress before only then shutting off her pc.
Kanade looked up to Mafuyu with a pleading face. Before being “oh-so rudely” pulled out of her chair by Mafuyu.
“It’s time for you to rest, whether you like it or not,” Mafuyu spoke, practically dragging a limp Kanade across the room to her bed, laying her down.
“I’m going to go reheat some of the soup Mochizuki-San made earlier this week. You better not leave this bed, Kanade.” Mafuyu said as she promptly left the room to go reheat said soup.
…
Once Mafuyu left the room, Kanade sat up in bed. The pressure on her head is a tadbit better since she wasn’t being blasted with the bluelight from her monitors. She was allotted less than 2 minutes of her own thinking time before Mafuyu came back with a bowl of reheated miso soup.
Mafuyu sat down on the bed next to Kanade, who was expecting Mafuyu to pass her the bowl, only to open her eyes to see a spoon practically shoved in her face.
“Huh?”
“Eat.”
“I-I can feed myself, Mafuyu. I-” She was promptly cut off by Mafuyu, taking advantage of her speaking to put the spoon in her mouth.
“I’m making sure you eat it all.”
Slowly, but surely, getting the composter to eat all the soup. She had managed to finish the bowl (with Mafuyu’s help, not that she wanted to be spoon-fed by her or anything…totally) in a record time of only fifteen minutes!
“I’m going to go wash the bowl now, Kanade.” Mafuyu spoke as she got up and left for the kitchen, after of course, re-tucking Kanade back under the sheets. While Mafuyu was away, Kanade was attempting to fall asleep once more.
Several uncounted minutes later, just as Kanade was about to successfully fall asleep, she felt a weight shuffle under the blanket behind her. She did as any other like-minded individual would do and turned around. Only to be met with Mafuyu staring at her while lying next to her.
“Oh, Mafuyu, why are you lying next to me?” Kanade tilted her head slightly, Mafuyu only slightly mirrored the movement before responding. “Making sure you actually sleep, rather than go back to your pc to compose.”
Kanade sighed a little. “Ah, I see…” Plans for five hours later were cancelled. Kanade turned back around to her initial position to find a more comfortable sleeping spot. However, just as she was about to drift off, she was once more interrupted. This time, by a warm arm draping over her shoulder, and another one slipping under her. Wrapping her in a warm embrace.
It did actually aid in her slumber. She should get sick more often, but then she’d have to deal with Ena scolding her. But it would be a small price to pay to cuddle with Mafuyu. She’d have to think on it a bit more when she wasn’t asleep.
