Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I’ll give it to someone special…
Last Christmas.
Arik looked down as Isaac stepped out of the car. He smiled up at him as Arik waved down. Now all the family and friends had arrived at the snow cabin together. Everyone crammed into the ski lift, ready to head up to where they were staying. Isaac looked around at everyone, glancing over at Arik only to meet his gaze as he was already staring. Arik quickly looked away, embarrassed while Isaac looked down, his brain running through all the possibilities.
Why was he staring at me? Hm, weird.
At the top of the hill, everyone piled out, looking around at the beautiful snow-covered cabin where everyone would be staying together. Christmas lights hung from the roof, starting to turn on as the sky darkened. Inside, decorations were being hung. Arik was crouched near the bottom, gently placing baubles while Isaac stood up on a stool, hanging tinsel on the top layer. Suddenly, Isaac lost his footing and fell down to the ground. Luckily, he caught himself on both feet, but when he looked up, he was eye to eye with Arik. They both froze, staring longingly into each other’s eyes until one of their friends came through the door, covered in snow. Isaac snapped back to himself, standing up to go laugh with his friends, leaving Arik at the bottom of the tree.
That night, everyone sat around the table for dinner. Chatter filled the room as one of their friends brought in some food. Everyone was happy, talking with their partners over dinner. Isaac was third wheeling on his friends, sitting at the end of the table. When he looked up, he saw Arik talking to his close friend. And they were a little… too close…
Arik just so happened to look over a moment later, his eyes meeting Isaac’s across the table. Isaac looked down, jealous of their intimacy. He stayed quiet for the rest of dinner, picking at his food.
After dinner, everyone decided to watch a lovely Christmas movie to end the night. The movie played, some old movie and while everyone was focused on that, Isaac’s thoughts were elsewhere. The look Arik gave him over dinner, at the tree, in the ski lift, they flashed through his mind.
Why would he look at me like that if.. no.. there’s no way…
The next morning, the two were running in the snow, chasing each other until they both fell down, laughing like little kids again. They loved remembering those moments and looking back on it. The whole group gathered their stuff into their duffle bags, ready to go. The two walked together, side by side. Neither of them knew how much the other liked them.
Would they ever know?
The next day, Isaac was roaming the streets, window shopping through all the sales now Christmas was over. He stopped by a warm coffee shop, the interior cozy and inviting.
He ordered his usual, matcha, and turned to look for a seat in the bustling area.
That’s when he saw him
Arik was sat at a booth in the café, another man across from him.
Isaac knew that look all too well.
Arik giggled at something the mystery guy said, clearly flirting with each other. The last straw was Arik leaning over and giving the guy a kiss. Right after Arik pulled back, the two met eyes.
Arik’s face dropped as he shot up from his seat, but Isaac was already out the door.
Arik ran out after him only to find he was already gone.
This Christmas
I’ll give my heart to someone special
Because last Christmas
I gave you hy heart
But the very next day
You gave it away
This Christmas,
It was the 22nd, the streets were buzzing with people finding last minute gifts and taking advantage of sales. Isaac walked down the street, stopping at that same coffee shop from the year prior.
He hesitated. Is it worth it?
The bell on the door rung as he stepped into the warm room.
“Medium matcha please”
After paying, he glanced to the spot where he’d seen his lover with someone else. Empty.
Sighing, he stepped out back onto the cold streets.
He kept his head down, still missing what he used to have when matcha was suddenly spilled all down the from of him. He looked up at the person he’d bumped into, about to get mad but immediately caught of guard by the handsome guys appearance.
“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry! Are you okay? I’ll buy you another drink if you’d like” The mystery guy babbled on, clearly worried
“it’s fine, I’m okay” Isaac managed to stutter out when in fact he really was not okay.
Isaac was in a trance. The way his chestnut brown, curly hair sat perfectly on his head – was this love at first sight? Isaac wasn’t sure, nor did he care much, all he knew was that this was the guy of his dreams
“okay, have a good day the-“
“wait! I’ll.. I’ll actually take up that offer on another drink..”
