Chapter Text
Remus stood in the town center, his bespoke shoulders flexing as he wielded the rope pulling up the pail with harsh grunting drags.
The sunlight glistened across his porcelain skin back heavily scarred from a vicious settlement of lacerations across his back.
He stood there bathing in the sunlight like a heavenly deity looking for something to throttle.
Sirius has been enjoying the show watching every heart gripping breath that had the pleasure of gracing Remus's lips before he did. Sirius had seen it all carefully his eyes had continued blazing a steady trail closely to the man's figure.
Remus looked aged beyond his years, a slight stubble dusting around his nose and trailing a path up the corners of his cheeks uncapped, the hair looked nearly white how Sirius would love nothing more than to take a bit of that weight off the man's shoulders.
The tiny speckles of hair trailing over his back, arms, and navel just above his belt tinged amber in the raining sunlight absolutely dazzling Sirius thought swallowing sharply.
“He's a short hairy monster,” Regina had leaned over his shoulder to whisper her breath vibrating in his ear with the elegant spirals of her usually predatory movements.
Sirius had turned for only a moment his eyes darting down to look at her before rolling his eyes swiftly back to observe the tantalizing object of his affections.
“Why would you even look twice at him?” Regina questioned her voice soft as she fell slowly from the tips of her toes. “Are you out of your mind?" Regina complains.
“He just grows a lot of hair, that's the way men are supposed to be, at least the real ones, with real jobs Sirius drawls at her not bothering to turn around again.
“I have enough self-respect to choose men my own age, unlike some people I simply can't find it in myself to flirt with men five times my age.” Sirius insists his head jerking slightly as he nods at his own words.
“I don't have that kind of damage,” Sirius reminds her his voice languid as he sways slightly, his gaze never wavering.
“What was that saying about throwing stones in glass houses, I seek to marry appropriately, within my social caliber that is the bare minimum of what is required,” she tells him, her arms pulling to curl over her chest as she blinks her whiskey colored eyes at the man before them.
“Surely you know better than to think you could ever actually be with him, not only is he unqualified for our social standing, after Andromeda ran off with that man no one is getting away with even sniffing around the lower parts of town Regina explains her lips pulled into a soft pout.
Her whiskey colored eyes softly trailing the outline of a red shirt in the distance.
A man bustles out of the tavern stretching his arms obnoxiously in a dramatic show of exhaustion, his bones perhaps popping from the tension her mouth parts slightly around a sharp breath.
“You pandering camel,” she begins, “you're a Black, you will not marry for love, you will marry for standing.”
“But-”Sirius began his white.
Regina had burst out laughing, the corners of her eyes crinkling like crushed parchment as she looked at something down the street.
Sirius had turned to look at her for only a moment, his lips pulling up at the corners as he watched her. There was something truly elating about her laughter.
“You'll be happy about the good marriage you were able to secure because that's the best you can do in this life,” she whispers, her gaze still fixed on something down the street.
Sirius takes a deep breath, his chest rising with the effort.
“Unless you want to break your back working, never able to strive for more than putting food on the table, that's what happened to Andromeda.” Regina continues her lips pulling shut for a moment as she watches the early morning street come alive.
“Do you think we would have stood a chance, like maybe if we had beaten Andromeda to it?” Sirius suggests his lips pulling slightly to bear his teeth in a wobbly line.
Regina pauses for a long moment, her eyes squinted as she continues to watch the figure bathed in red continue towards the woods, her lips twitching at the corners before she shakes her head slowly.
“Don't be ridiculous, our parents would sooner choke to death by locking themselves in the house, gorging on their waist until it kills them.” Regina points out her smile softening at the corners but she continues to watch her gaze fixed down the street.
“My mom and our dad might but not your mom though,” Sirius affirms clearly, his voice soft with certainty as he watches Remus finally walk away.
