Chapter Text
"When did it all go wrong...?"
You ask yourself as you scan a customer's groceries under a flickering ceiling light. It pretty much has been since you first met them. You could've been a Celestial Judgement (AKA a space judge, for human understanding), now you're working minimum wage as cashier. What were their names again?... Some... stupid shit like Ignignokt and Err. Sucks how you got mixed up with those two doofuses. Either way, you still ended up with them. College days, you were doing fine. Average grades, never got caught in school drama, absolute normie. Too normal to be bullied as a 'loser', too much of a rule abider to be called a delinquent, not big enough to be crowned badass and popular. You were just... there. Then there were those two. You'll never forget the green and pink assholes of your school life.
"Just tap your card here, ma'am." You absent-mindedly told the woman you're serving, your head stuck in that moment of your life. It all started in the halls. You were on your way to the next class when it you heard a sudden shout behind you, followed by an unnecessary string of curses and slurs. Two fellow Mooninites slammed passed you, the shorter pink one yelling a rude "WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING, BITCH!" before the taller green one smacked him at the back of the head for cursing out a fellow moon resident. "Assholes," you muttered under your breath, sure that they were far enough to miss that. Well because of that, you decided to be a bitch about it and snitched. They did NOT let that down, turning the rest of your school life into living hell.
Everything else is always a blur when you're deep in thought.
"Mss... H?... HELLO, EXCUSE ME? I TAPPED IT, NOW WHAT." You hadn't realized that the woman was already yelling at you. She looks mad.
"S...sorry," You stammered, rubbing a hand against your face. "Just... have a lot in mind, ma'am."
"Well stop having a lot in mind and do your damn work. You're holding a line here!" The woman retorted. You do see a lot of customers waiting behind her. Most of the registers were malfunctioning today, so you were one of the only available cashiers. "You better be thankful I haven't called for your manager! Damn people like you hogging all our American jobs and you can't even do it right..." She hissed that last part, rolling her eyes. You sigh and finish the transaction before the woman snatches the paper bag from you and left. "Bitch." You huffed silently. You proceed with scanning the next customer's items, trying to keep your head out of the fog of regrets and bad decisions.
MEANWHILE...
"Don't touch those magazines, Meatwad." Frylock snatched the adult magazines away from the messy haired boy's chubby fingers and returned it to the top of the magazine rack before a yellow gloved hand grabbed it again behind him and threw it into the shopping cart. "Shake said they'll help me once I get in college though! Right Shake?" Meatwad answered in that feeble voice, before the man in a dirty white hoodie replied. "What? No I didn't, who taught you to lie like that, and blaming me too!? Frylock, look at him. He's got the tongue of a politician at that age already!" Shake defended, his shrilly, nasally voice forever a needle in Frylock's ears. He ignored Shake's blabbering and took a look at the line's length. "There sure are a lotta people today." Meatwad commented as he snuck a chocolate bar into their shopping cart. "See what's holding the line, Meatwad." Frylock grabbed the boy and hauled him up to his shoulders with a grunt, giving Meatwad a proper eagle-eye view. "Some lady's yelling at the cashier," Meatwad described.
"Is it a hot lady?" Shake asked.
"Is a ugly old lady." Meatwad clarified.
"Pass," Shake replied, putting a hand up in a declining-an-offer manner. "Frylock can have her, he's into old hags."
"Shut up," Frylock hissed, elbowing Shake before adjusting his grasp properly on Meatwad's tiny legs. "What else do you see?"
Meatwad loses balance a bit before stabling himself by pulling on Frylock's yellow locs. "Watch it!" Frylock hissed. "Well hold still foo'!" Meatwad retorted before looking around again. "Huh.. Oh. Oh dang. Is that... i-is one of those guys!! Th-them 'moony-nines' !"
"WHAT?" Shake exclaimed before grabbing onto Frylock as well, trying to get a better view. Frylock hissed a curse under his breath as he struggles to regain footing. "Shit--- Sh...Shake, get off of me damn it!" He grunted, before falling to the floor with a dull thud with the other two. He swats his hand against the back of Shake's head before helping himself and Meatwad up. "They looked depressed as hell though," Meatwad stated as Frylock dusts him off. "We still need to check them out, maybe they got something about those two assholes."
"I'll be bad cop!" Shake enthusiastically suggested, pointing at himself arrogantly. "Nobody's playing cops, Shake." Frylock replied. "We're waiting in line like everyone else until we get to talk to them. Properly." Meatwad digs into his large, curly mess of hair and pulls out a taser. "I'm tasin' 'em," he stated casually. "Where the hell did you get that?!" Frylock swipes the taser away from Meatwad's grasp. "I said we're waiting in line like everyone else 'till we get to talk to them properly, okay? Damn!" Shake snickered as he fixed his cap. "Pfft, you just want a taste of their alien ass, you virgin!" He teased giving Frylock a playful punch to the shoulder. "Goddamn it, Shake, stop thinking with your dick once in a while!" Frylock retorted, pinching the bridge of his nose. "A-and I'm not a virgin. I'm not." He added defensively.
"Fine, here's a bet then! Convince 'em to spit out some information with a lil' bit of seduction if you're so experienced with it." Shake offered with a snort. "What's in it for me?" Frylock asked, raising an eyebrow. "Uh... I'll do whatever the hell you want for a month! Hit me!" Shake replied with an unconvincing grin. "Pass." Frylock immediately declined... but he will do it. He's gotta prove to a hornhog like Shake that he can in fact pull. And having Shake do anything for him is a tiny bit convincing.
"Fine. Deal. If I lose, I'll build you whatever the hell you want that's SAFE. You better hold your end of the bet, Shake."
LATER...
"Next." You sigh, waiting for the next customer. Finally, almost at the end of the line. After this, you can finally take a damn break. You were already having a bad enough day, so this can't get any worse, you hope.
...
You didn't have enough time to react when a man suddenly jumps over the register and tackles you to the floor, yelling bullshit.
"WE'RE DOING THIS THE HARD WAY OR THE HARDER WAY, YOU NEON PUNK. DO YOU OR DO YOU NOT KNOW ABOUT THOSE MOON ASSHOLES?!"
You scream and attempt to kick the man off, before another guy hauls the maniac away from you. "G-GET OFF OF 'EM SHAKE! What the hell did I tell you?!" The other man exclaimed while the lunatic who tackled you struggled and kicked in his arms. He's kept like that until he eventually calmed down, or his fatass got tired. "I am so sorry about him. He's a bit uh... impulsive. I-I'm Frylock, by the way," he explained, helping you back onto your feet. You don't really wanna decide whether to forgive them or not right now.
"So uh... you come here often?" Frylock asked with an awkward grin.
You stare at him blankly, and replied, "I work here."
