Flooding Syndrome is an enigma to most scientists studying inkfish. It is an incredibly rare disorder, primarily seen in times of war or following natural disaster. 90% of inkfish who contract Flooding Syndrome die within a week of contraction, even with medical assistance and generous ink transfusions. Not much is known of this disorder, but this is what we do know.
Symptoms of Flooding Syndrome
Flooding Syndrome thickens a subject's natural ink, giving it the consistency of puree. Side affects of thickened ink include, but are not limited to:
- Extreme pain when changing forms.
- Inability to be splatted.
- Permanent scars not of subject's natural ink colour.
- Wounds not closing, surface-level gashes needing to be stitched up to prevent fatal ink loss.
- Ability to tread water, even in levels inkfish dissolve in.
- Inability to cut tentacles.
- Pain when moving or doing strenuous activity.
- A slow and painful death.
Known Long-Term Survivors of Flooding Syndrome
Shogun 'DJ' Octavio Takowasa - Could not be reached for interviews due to being a political enemy of Inkadia.
Acht Ahato - When asked about their Flooding Syndrome during their latest album debut interview as 'Dedf1sh', Pearl Houzuki, who was sat next to them, began loudly cussing out the interviewer. Did not reply to any emails asking for interviews about their condition.
03 Sangō - Did not reply to any emailsfor interviews about their condition. Only known to have Flooding Syndrome through a doctor reporting it to the state during a routine checkup two years ago. 003 has not been to any doctors since that day, and the Inkadian Authorities are actively searching for them.
Causes of Flooding Syndrome
Flooding Syndrome is only caused by High-Tide Ink entering the body. Flooding Syndrome was discovered during the Great Turf War, due to the unregulated weapons used on both sides. The two recent discoveries of inkfish with Flooding Syndrome - Acht Ahato and 003 Sangō - are highly debated mysteries. The most common theory is that they were attacked with illegal, unlicensed weapons.
Flooding Syndrome is not something to worry about. Inkadian professionals state that there have been less than 10 instances of Flooding Syndrome since the end of the Great Turf War.

High-Tide Ink is an incredibly illegal substance only found in the deepest depths of the Black Market. It was made as a weapon of war, and is not found anywhere in the current day and age. High-Tide Ink is a thickened version of extracted natural ink, the most common mixture being of ½ cup of Starch-Based Thickeners for every litre of Natural Ink, posing at a Level 4 on the IDDSI Framework.
High-Tide Ink, when shot through a weapon, almost always kills on impact. It thickens the victim's natural ink the the point of Flooding Syndrome in all survivors of shots from it. High-Tide Ink is much heavier than natural ink, so when it's shot, it travels much less distance. Most instances of High Tide Ink weapons were Chargers because of this.
