Work Text:
When I think of you,
of the time we spent together,
my heart fails to be content with what was given.
It keeps asking for one moment more
of the life we once had.
Separation is like a slow poison,
For it leaves the cup half-full
so the heart keeps reaching,
believing there is still time.
But time wears its kindest face
while taking us piece by piece
When I think of you,
my heart is caught again,
its love suspended in a web of uncertainty,
unable to decide whether silence is kinder
than shedding its wings and falling.
And when it meets the ground,
it will no longer know what it is:
a creature meant to crawl home,
or one called elsewhere
toward a life that costs everything it knew.
So when I think of you,
my dearest friend,
my heart does not know what to do with itself.
It only reaches, still, across all that has become of us,
begging you, quietly:
do not let the life we had
become mine alone to remember.
