Work Text:

Damn, it was hot as a bitch today. Scarlett had to be working overtime or something.

Kai was fanning himself, sweat dripping down his forehead. Even tho he was under the shade of the blinds of a store. He would kill for some ice cream, but he didn’t have money. He should probably listen to Kotaro and get a job— nah. That’s stupid, and he won’t do that. Kotaro liked being a victim of capitalism, Kai didn’t. He liked spending his days skating and hanging out with his boyfriend…

Speaking of his boyfriend, there he was. Woaw. Zayne was so beautiful, like every day ever. Yes, Kai was cringe. Yes, he liked being cringe.

"Sup, shawty?" Kai said with a whistle. "Damn, wearing a hoodie when it’s so hot outside? Are you tryna be even hotter?" He flirted.

"Dude, stop." Zayne said, earning a disgruntled sound.

"Oh. So you hate me." Kai sighed dramatically.

"Pfft, dumbass. You know I don’t." The hellhound responded, sitting down next to him and leaning back.

"Take off your hoodie, I wanna cuddle but you’re gonna be like an oven if you keep it on." Kai said, poking the fabric, and Zayne huffed, lifting it up and over his head, Kai helping him so he wouldn’t catch the fabric on his horns. He was wearing a tank top underneath. "Brah, that’s stupid as fuck!! Why are you wearing multiple layers when it’s so hot outside?! Are you trying to die?!"

"I can handle the heat well, thank you very much." Zayne scoffed, flicking Kai’s temple.

"Ow! You’re such a tsundere, dude!" The skater wooed, swooning.

Zayne froze. "Shit. I can’t deny this without proving his point." He thought, looking to the side with the calculating nervosity of a man realizing he fell head first into a trap like an idiot.

Kai grinned smugly. "He can’t deny this without proving my point. I’m such a genius."

They sat there, Zayne thinking of all the possibilities that could get him out of this situation, before sighing when realizing he had none. Kai laughed evilly, which earned him a deserved punch in the shoulder.

"Owwww!" He wailed, but started laughing halfway. They started sharing playful smacks and shoves, until Kai got out of breath and started stinking of sweat. Zayne recoiled.

"Dude, YOU STINK!" Zayne yelled dramatically, falling back and pretending to die.

"It can’t be THAT bad." Kai scoffed, before sniffing his armpit and jumping back. "NEVERMIND. You got deodorant?"

"Of course not, I have to keep that natural alpha male musk…" The hellhound bragged ironically, kissing his bicep.

"Ew."

"Asshole."

Kai pulled Zayne up from the pavement onto his lap, hugging him and scratching his ears.

"Imagine being fluffy and thinking you’re tough." He bantered.

"Imagine being gay." Zayne snorted.

"You don’t have to imagine." The skater snarked.

"Fuck." The hellhound grumbled, giving him a joking glare which faltered when Kai scratched a very good spot behind his ears, his tail becoming a little helicopter behind him. "Dang, that’s good."

Zayne rested his head on Kai’s shoulder, looking down at Kai’s wings. He rested his hands on them, fixing the feathers he had rustled when they fought. Kai melted into the touch, continuing to pet him and smoothing his hackles, landing a kiss on Zayne’s cheek.

"Muuuaaahhh!!" He said loudly, making another kissy sound.

"Gross." Zayne chuckled, but kissed Kai’s cheek back, then his lips, before moving to preen Kai’s wings again carefully.

"Thanks for helping with those, by the way. They’re to small for me to do it myself." The skater said, scratching the back of Zayne’s neck, making him shiver and wag his tail even harder. "Aww, cute."

"I know, I’m so cute and adorable." Zayne boasted, grinning.

"Yes you are." Kai kissed his boyfriend’s snout, earning a lick on his nose. "Who’s a good boyyyy?" He teasingly cooed, making kissy sounds.

"I already told you that this shit doesn’t work on me, man…" The hellhound huffed, tho it totally did. He was just trying to act tough.

"Who’s a good puppy? Is it you? Is it you??" The skater continued, squishing his cheeks.

"IT’S ME IT’S ME—" Zayne stammered, before he stopped, glaring at Kai and flopping back. "Fuuuuccckk!!" He groaned.

Kai caught him, holding him back against his body, petting his head and scratching his chin. Zayne huffed, leaning into the touch, eyes half closed, because he was a total sucker for any kind of scratches. He licked his boyfriend’s palm, nuzzling it, before moving to get a bit more comfortable in his lap and take care of his feathers again.

They stayed there for a little while, all snuggled up, but Kai started getting thirsty.

"Zayneeee… do you have any moneeeeyy? I’d kill for some soda…" He whined, fluttering his eyelashes.

"Yeah, I do have a few bucks." The other said with a shrug.

"Did you earn them, or did you steal them?" He teased, raising his eyebrow.

"Don’t think too much about it."

They stood up, Zayne pushing his hoodie in Kai’s bag like an asshole that didn’t carry his stuff. Kai of course didn’t mind. The two walked into a tiny store, and stopped in front of the fridges. Kai narrowed his eyes, tapping his chin while Zayne already picked his can.

"Oh my Gods, hurry up, dude. It cannot be that hard." The hellhound huffed, massaging the ridge of his nose, exasperated.

"But I dunno what to picccckkk…" The skater whined, wings flapping a bit.

Zayne facepalmed, before picking something for him. "Here, you love that stuff."

"My hero… thank you…" Kai squeaked, giving him pathetic princess eyes.

They bought their cans, and walked out. They decided to stay over at Zayne’s mentor’s house, since it was closer to the store than Kotaro’s apartment was. They arrived to the tiny house, and Zayne rang the bell. A mountain of a woman opened the door. Wilder. She stared at the two.

"Come in. And don’t go doing some stuff up there. You know I like my hearing intact." She teased, giving Zayne a noogie as he walked his way to the staircase.

"Ooowwww, Wilder!!!" He whined like a puppy, rubbing his scalp. Kai snorted, then cleared his throat before he could get the same treatment.

They walked up the stairs, into Zayne’s room. Yes, his room was the attic. So awesome. Kai stared at the posters on the walls, and the punching bag in the corner. There was also a collection of trinkets and scraps he stole, and a TV projector he has for some reason. He also kept one of Kai’s old skateboards hung on the wall, which was cute.

"Dude, is that a TV projector? Sick!" The skater said, walking over to it.

"It still works, by the way. Wanna watch something?" Zayne asked, grabbing some DVDs.

"Can we watch Shark Boy and Lava Girl?" Kai asked, pointing at the DVD.

"…Okay, dude." The hellhound huffed, shaking his head.

"And make out during the scary parts?" The other added, and an awkward silence stretched.

"…The scary parts… of Shark Boy and Lava Girl???" Zayne asked, looking worried.

"I just wanna make out." Kai admitted.

"Nah. Wilder will kill us, bro."

"Damn."

They just picked a dumb movie, complained about how bad it was, and fell asleep halfway. They should probably watch it again just to see how it ends. Probably not that good, but if it sucks, they could laugh about how they wasted their time watching a dumb movie.

Kai woke up a bit later, cheek against Zayne’s warm chest and beating heart, leaned a bit closer, and fell back asleep.

He loved his boyfriend so much.
