Work Text:

You decend down deep into the
Mountains to the south of Dorthonian which the Elves call Ered Gorgoroth. The path is not marked, yet you lose it not. It winds like memory, or fate, always downward, always deeper. Stone gives way to dust, and the dust gives way to something smoother. You stop looking behind you for the dark feels like it is strangling you.

There is no more sun. No more sky. Even the idea of it feels remote now, like a half, remembered dream.

And ahead, something waits.

You know her before you see her.
You have always known her.

The air thickens, not with heat, nor cold, but with presence.

Each breath tastes like spun ash, laced with sweetness that coats your tongue and sinks deeper. There is rot beneath it, barely detectable. Not foul. Ancient. Like a memory gone soft at the edges.

You run your fingers along the walls, but they aren't stone anymore. They're smoother than glass, softer than cloth. Threads. Countless threads, fine as smoke, stretched impossibly taut. You feel them hum under your skin.

Not caught.
Welcomed.

She does not come as a form.

She comes as a feeling.

A slow tightening in the belly, a weight behind your heart, as if the very air were watching. You can’t see her, and yet you feel the shape of her attention, immense, slow, and full of knowing. Not curiosity. Not hunger.

Something between.

You are seen in a way you’ve never been seen before. Not as flesh. Not even as thought. But as thread, something to be drawn in, woven through, understood.

And once you are understood, you will not be yours anymore.

You take another step.

The dark breathes.

Not wind. Not sound. But a motion, as if the void were folding to allow her nearer. You catch the barest shimmer in the air, like oil over water, like a ripple where no surface lies. It quivers once, then spreads in all directions.

Your heartbeat slows.

She is vast. You sense that now. Not tall or wide, but profound. A gravity that unspools your sense of scale. You feel her around you, beneath and above, and inside, where your thoughts grow still, as if hushed by unseen hands.

You could run.
You could scream.

But you don’t.

You are too close.

A single strand brushes the side of your face.

It is lighter than breath. Cooler than skin. Yet it burns something deep inside you, some old certainty that begins to unravel, strand by willing strand. You don’t pull away. You lean into it.

There are more threads now, brushing your arms, your back, your legs. They don't restrain. They explore. Each one moves with uncanny delicacy, as though it knows you, not just the shape of your body, but the shape of your wanting.

You realize how long it has been since someone touched you with care.

No force. No violence.
Just claiming.

Something stirs in the dark.

A glimpse, not with eyes, but with instinct. An outline as wide as thought itself. Coils of darkness, limbs like smoke, a hunger so deep it has long since become calm. She is watching. Closer now.

And then: she speaks.

Not in words.

In silence.

A silence so complete it speaks everything. A language made of absence. You feel it bloom inside your chest, warm and sharp and terrifyingly tender.

She does not ask.

She does not take.

She waits.

You step forward.
And that is your answer.

The threads thicken.

Not around you, within you. Through you. Light shudders and folds as her shadow passes into you like breath through a parted mouth. You are lifted, not with hands, not with limbs. With intention.

She cradles you in unbeing.

The world disappears, thread by thread, until there is nothing left but her. Her, and the soft, pulsing beat of something vast and endless, echoing against your skin.

You feel yourself changing.
Or being revealed.

Not undone.
Unfolded.

There is no pain.

Only the sensation of being understood too deeply to remain unchanged.

You become part of her darkness. Her web. Her will. Not broken. Not consumed.

Woven.

And in that final breath, just before the world ends around you, there is a stillness, a sacred stillness, filled with the weight of every unspoken thing.

Then she carries you away.

And the dark tells not what it keeps.
