Work Text:
Amanda stared down at the blue light below her. Just one misstep, and she'd fall right into the core, melting and dying. Although she was so high up, she felt the heat, with this heat, you'd think the sun had gotten closer to earth.
Amanda wondered if this really was a good choice. To kill herself to get away from the stress of living. Who would miss her, except for her singular online friend and her Internet boyfriend? How would they know she killed herself? Maybe they'll just think she ghosted them, and they won't even think of her after a few days.
It took her quite a while to reach the top of the nuclear reactor, and even if she went back, her father would probably shun her as he always did. She barely had anybody. She knew this was it. She knew everything would be cured as soon as she jumped into the blinding light.
But as soon as she jumped, she immediately regretted it.
She remembered times—times before her father became an abusive drunkard, when her mother and father would take her to the park and play with her. She remembered when she first met her boyfriend, even if it was over a game, her heart fluttered for the first time in her life—she even made a promise to him that she'd meet up with him in real life.
She remembered when she used to go to school, before she could barely drag herself out of bed, the teachers would compliment her work, and how she was a good student.
She heard stories of people who lived through hellish things—and although they were broken, they repaired themselves.
Amanda felt everything scattering, her thoughts, her body, everything was breaking apart. Every part of her that was still intact burned and ached, shouldn't she be dead by now? Although there are tears on what remains of her face, and her breathing is ragged, she still has not reached the bottom.
She imagines the reactions of her parents when they find out their daughter is missing from her bedroom.
Would they feel sad? Guilty? She hopes they feel some sort of guilt. She wonders if a missing person report will even be filed.
Amanda feels heat towards her face, and hesitantly, she decides to open her eyes before she hits the bottom.
She saw a beautiful, blue light.
