Work Text:
She left me. I don’t understand what I did wrong. At least the people in the restaurant have stopped staring at me. Though, it still feels like my heart has been ripped out of my chest and shattered into pieces.
I stare at the little box on the table. I screwed up. Maybe I just need to wait a few days before talking to her. Yeah, that’s it. She didn’t mean it. There’s no way that she did.
I don’t know how long I sit there staring at that box before the waiter comes back over to me. “Sir, I have to ask you to leave,”
My head snaps up as I look at her. “What?”
“We’re closing,” she informs me.
“Oh right. Sorry. Um how much is the bill?” I ask, she tells me and I pay. Grabbing the box and putting it back in my pocket
After that I don’t bother going home. I sit on the curve in the pouring rain staring at my hands.
Why did she leave me?
Earlier
We had just finished eating when I decided to ask. I stand up and pull the ring out of my pocket.
She looks up at me as I do. “Zuku, what are you doing?” She asks quietly.
I smile slightly as I drop down onto one knee. And slowly open the box. Her hands start to cover her face as others begin to look at us. “Uraraka Ochaco will you marry me?” She stands up and kneels in front of me. Placing one hand on my cheek.
She’s going to say yes. She doesn’t say yes. I should have known her answer when a tear ran down her cheek. “Zuku, I love you. Please know that,” she then looks down. “But I don’t believe that you love me,”
“What?”
“I’m sorry,” then she stands up and walks away.
Now
I’m still staring at my hands when I feel my phone vibrate again. What now? I pull my phone out of my pocket. Rain drops landing on the screen. I unlock it and go to messages.
There’s several texts from mom and Bakugo. I hit mom’s contact.
Mom: what did she say?
I type a response.
Me: no.
Mom: where are you? Im coming to get you.
Me: outside the restaurant.
I put the phone back in my pocket and I sit there in the rain ignoring how my body shivers every so often.
I can’t believe she left.
She’s who I was supposed to marry. And she just shattered me.
Mom arrives about thirty minutes later. “Izuku you’re getting soaked. Come on,” she says grabbing my arm. I stand up and we go to her apartment where she insists I shower and change into some dry clothes that I’ve left here at some point.
She hugs me afterwards. “I’m so sorry Izuku. I know how much you liked her,” I cry into her shoulder and she lets me.
I don’t think I can live without Ochaco.
Six months later
U.A. has finally let out for the summer.
Good. Now I can have my peace. I’m currently burrowed under my blankets like a ground hog.
This is where I tend to stay the entire summer.
I now understand why Aizawa brought a sleeping bag to class.
There’s a knock at my door. I ignore it. The knocking doesn’t go away. “Nerd, I know you’re in there!” Kacchen yells through the door. Because of course it’s Kacchen.
I don’t respond. Of course that doesn’t stop him. I hear the door open and I close my eyes. I forgot that I gave him a key.
Damnit.
The door slams closed behind him and I hear his footsteps on the floor. “Get up,” he demands.
I don’t respond. Next thing I know he’s pulling the covers off. I groan. “What?”
“There’s a science convention in Tokyo and we’re going,”
“I’m not going anywhere,” I argue.
“To bad,” he responds going over to my closest and pulling out a bag. Then he goes to my dresser and starts pulling stuff out. “How many shirts do you want?”
“I’m not going,”
He glares at me. “Well, I’m not asking. Now how many shirts?”
“I don’t care Kacchen,” he walks over to me.
“Fine. You can pack yourself we leave in two hours,”
“Wait what?”
“You heard me nerd. I don’t care if you pack or not. I’m leaving in two hours and you’re coming with me even if I have to drag you out of this apartment kicking and screaming,”
I should have taken his threat more seriously then I did. Because two hours later true to his word. He’s dragging me out of bed against my will.
I really should have packed.
We get to the hotel and they apparently mixed things up and instead of getting two beds we end up with one. I stare at it.
“I’m sleeping on the floor,” I tell him. He gives me a look.
“The hell you are. You’re sleeping in the bed with me,” he says putting his bag down. He unzips it and tosses me a tank top and sweat pants.
“Um, this is yours,” I inform him.
“If you packed your clothes this wouldn’t be a problem now would it?” He has a point.
I sigh and go into the bathroom and change. Both are far too big on me. Not that that’s surprising. It’s really not.
He’s a giant compared to me. “Now get in bed punk,” he says already climbing in. I go over and get under the covers next to him. “Stay on your side,” he tells me.
Which I guess when I’m asleep I don’t remember boundaries. Because when I wake up There’s a heavy arm across my waist and I’m curled into his chest.
I attempt to move only for his arm to pull me closer against him. “No,” he mumbles into my shoulder.
What is with him?
I go to move again and once again he doesn't let me. “Stop moving brat,” he grumbles.
Since when has he gotten clingy?
“Kacchen, I have to pee,”
“Don’t care,” is this man serious? I elbow him in the ribs. Still doesn’t seem to disturb him.
“Kacchen,” he only grumbles. I throw my head back and groan.
I could be in my bed right now under a pile of blankets. Instead, I’m being held hostage by my best friend. This is not how I planned my summer going.
Eventually he wakes up and lets me go. He gets up and hands me pants and a tank top. “Is all you packed tank tops?”
“If you packed your things you wouldn’t be complaining now would you?”
Maybe I can go shopping for some clothes today. I hope so because wearing his clothing is annoying.
It’s a thing couples do. Not that Ochaco ever took any of mine, but that’s not the point.
I put them on and the pants don’t stay up. He laughs. “Really Kacchen. Really?!” I fuss at him.
“It’s funny,” I glare at him. Bastard.
That’s not even the worst part of the day. No the worst part is when we run into Todoroki because he also decided to come here.
He takes one look at me before tilting his head. “Why are you wearing Bakugo’s clothes?” Reasonable question but I also want to smack him for asking it.
“Because he didn’t pack,” Kacchen mutters.
I hate my life.
After day one of the convention we end up sharing a bed again.
I can’t sleep. I thought Kacchen was asleep until he decides to speak. “You’re thinking too loud,”
“I didn’t say anything,”
“You didn’t have to,”
I stare at the ceiling. “Is there something wrong with me?”
He turns his head to look at me. “What the hell Deku. Why would you think that?”
“Because when she broke up with me she said I didn’t love her that I love someone else,” my voice cracks.
“Well, do you?” He asks.
I shrug. “I don’t know. I thought I loved her but everytime we head sex it was hard because it felt like she was a friend you know? But then there’s other people that I wouldn’t exactly be against siding that with,”
“Really?” I whole my eyes.
“Don’t get your hopes up,”
He turns on his side to look at me. “Who?”
My cheeks heat immediately. “You,” I say quietly and then he’s kissing me.
A year later
“Do you Katsuki Bakugo take Izuku Midoriya to your husband?” The officiant asks.
“Yes,” Bakugo responds.
“Then you may now kiss,” and God do we kiss.
