Mono sat on the door floating through the water with the girl he had rescued. She had short black hair and was wearing a large grayish black jacket with ripped shorts. She was probably around Mono’s age just a bit younger. It seemed they’d be on the door for a while before they found land so Mono decided to try to talk to her.
“Hey,” he said looking at the girl. “You haven’t told me your name yet. Can you please tell me?”
The girl looked at him trying to peer through the holes in the bag covering his face. She seemed distrusting of Mono. She had mostly gone with him because he protected her enough throughout the hunter’s shack to seem safe.
“My name is Six.” She said quietly.
“Nice to meet you properly, Six.”Mono said. “I’m sorry about the way we ended up meeting for the first time. I kind of scared you unintentionally.”
“Thank you.” Six said looking at her feet.
“Thank you?” Mono said confused. “For what?”
“For saving me.” She replied. “I was trapped in that hunter’s house until you freed me.”
“It wasn’t that hard, anyone could’ve done it.” Mono said bashfully. “I just knew that I should save you when I saw you. It isn’t right to just leave people.”
Six looked up at Mono. “Even if it wasn’t hard it still mattered.” She said. “I wouldn’t be here if you left me.”
“You’re right, Six.” Mono said. “And I wouldn’t be here either.”
Six looked at him confused. “What do you mean?”
“You helped me get past the Hunter’s house.” He said. “It was you who helped me fire the shotgun. I couldn’t have done that on my own.”
Six slightly smiled. “I guess you’re right.”
“We’re both small in a large scary world.” Mono said. “We have to try our best to stay alive and stick together in order to do so. Can you promise me we’ll always be together helping one another?”
Six lifted her pinky to make a promise. Mono quickly followed suit and lifted his pinky and latched it around hers.
“I promise.” She replied.
