Chapter Text
The safehouse was their only option. They took Nikki hostage trying to contact an informant. Colin knew from the bottom of his heart, she wouldn't give up any intel without one hell of a fight. He (along with Gina and Bill of course) set a meeting for the next morning. Until then, the plan was to wait, gather as much information as they could to get leverage on the captors, and try not to lose their heads in their designated safehouses.
Bill and Colin decided to share Colin’s safehouse, so they could compare notes on the mole investigation. Nothing more. As Bill unpacked his duffle, Colin still had his slung across his shoulders as he took a look around.
It was your run-of-the-mill suburban home. The walls were mostly white and beige for a warm feel to the space (which they definitely needed after today’s events). The living room was staged with a beige couch and chair. In the kitchen, wood bar stools stood at the kitchen island. Above him, small, flush mount light fixtures lit the open concept space beautifully. So Colin watches the home and garden network at times, sue him.
After noting the scenery, and its exits (because he’s cautious like that). He decides to unpack his things in the other bedroom. He walks around the house, and all he finds is a basement living room and office, but no other bedrooms. They were given the wrong house somehow. He thought it looked a little small for a two bedroom, but it’s too late to turn back. He heads back upstairs to inform Bill of the mishap. He knocks on the door softly with a knuckle. “Come in, Colin.” Bill declared, sounding slightly tired. He opened the door and walked in. Yet, for some reason, Colin dreaded what he was about to say,
“You know how I had a phone call on the drive over here? Did you know I was talking to the people in charge of getting the safe houses ready?” Colin blurted out.
“Yeah, why? What happened?”
“They seemed to have mixed up the safe house arrangements, and put us in the single bedroom house.”
“It’s okay, I can take the couch. I’ve been sleeping on my own couch most nights now, since I had a bad fight with Katie”. Bill’s heart races, Oh my god, that was way too much information. He felt his face turn red, and looked down at the carpeted floor, away from Colin.
“No problem, mate. If you need someone to talk to, I'm all ears. Okay."
“Okay.”
Bill makes haste to pack his duffle back up, zip it shut, and walk out. He kept telling himself it’s no big deal, but the self-gaslighting is not working. These mountains in his mind are just mole hills that built up from the stress of the day. So he takes his duffle bag off his shoulder, and drops down on the couch. He takes his phone in hand, needing one hell of a distraction from his buzzing thoughts. But the only thing that distracted him enough was thoughts of hair dark as night, dark eyes, face straight out of a movie, and a perfectly trimmed goatee (he thought he might not mind kissing). Oh my god, I like Colin! Why am I realizing this today of all days! When we are sharing a house!
Meanwhile, Colin stares down at the empty, neatly made, white, bed wondering Did I want him to share the bed with me? No Bill would probably die before sleeping with the partner he’s hated for months. Yet he can’t help but see Bill, his curly, red hair (he tries so hard to tame), his brown eyes that turn hazel in the New York sun, and his mouth that he’s been dying to kiss for weeks. He falls down on the bed, with the lights still off. He shifts around to get comfortable, and he hears something that sounds like a kitten’s meow.
He has officially lost his marbles. There is no way a kitten is in this safe house. Then he hears it again. Meow, rawr. Colin thinks he’s absolutely lost it at this point, but it never hurts to check. What am I doing? This is bloody ridiculous! "Bloody hell." Colin mutters. He rolls off the bed, landing carefully, turns on his phone flashlight, drops down on his knees… knock knock.
“Colin, I think I left a pair of socks in the bedroom. Do you mind if I check?” Well, if the kitten hasn’t left anywhere since they moved in, then what’s an extra minute. “Come in, Bill.” After he is granted permission, he walks in. (Since Colin needs an extra few seconds to get up with his aging knees) he’s still on the ground when Bill sees him. “Do I want to know what you’re doing on the ground?” Bill askes with a hint of sass.
“I think a kitten is under the bed.” Colin stated, as he decided there was no use in lying.
Bill thought Colin had one too many near death experiences, and it had started to affect his brain. This thought was automatically contradicted by a meow, rawr. Oh my god he’s right! What the hell is a cat doing in here? “You’re right.” Bill admits.
“What? You believe me?”
“Yes, I heard it too.”
Bill also turns on his own phone flashlight, and is under the bed opposite to Colin. Both men sweep their phones across the bed slowly, and Bill sees it. A small completely grey kitten with gorgeous yellow-green eyes. It’s so small, Bill thinks it could fit in a teacup. “Oh my god, it’s so cute!” Bill hears Colin's voice go up an octave.
He could not believe his ears. Colin Glass, the professional hard ass, was saying a kitten was “so cute.” He couldn't help but smile, Colin looked too good to be true right now. His eyes turned into the night sky in the dimly lit room. Surprisingly his shock turned to happiness, as his mouth started to turn up at the corners of his cheeks.
Bill moves around the bed to sit beside Colin to attempt to get the kitten out from under the bed. “Pspspsp,”
“Come out, kitty. Come on out.”
After a few minutes of Bill and Colin simultaneously calling the kitty, it finally gained the confidence (and curiosity) to prowl the edge of the bed. Colin picks up the delicate ball of fur by the sides. He lifts (her) as Colin discovered, and showed their new female furry friend to Bill. “How did you get in here, eh?” His mouth turns up at the sides and opens into a smile.
He turns to Bill who is donning the cutest smile he has ever seen. He looks adorable with his natural, ginger, curls coming undone, his brown eyes glowing honey gold with the natural light. He thought he might kiss him. Woah that escalated quickly… but he’s right there. No, no, that would be a very bad idea. Before he could pass the cat to Bill and attempt to escape his feelings, Bill kisses Colin.
Bill wasn't thinking. His feelings for Colin suddenly boiled to the top of his mind. He looked so cute holding that precious kitten, he’s never seen his smile so wide (or so genuine) before. Bill finally got to see the real Colin Glass. No masks, no lies, him. Kissing the partner you started out hating seemed like a horrible idea on paper, but it feels very right at this moment. He was very surprised to learn that Colin is kissing him back. Wait, what’s happening? He pulls away to try to collect his thoughts.
Bill sees that Colin’s face has now turned into a tomato, and Bill guesses he looks just as red as he does. Seeing Colin flustered completely derailed his train of thought.
“What? I… why … when did you…” Colin stuttered, his eyes bouncing around trying to find the right words.
“I don't know, I guess I thought it was a good idea.” Bill said with uncertainty. He had just realized his feelings for him today! Now he’s kissing him! “Did you know you liked me before now?” Bill couldn’t help but wonder.
“Yeah, sort of. Well… I did think about kissing you right before you kissed me.”
Well that was news to Bill, for all he knew he still hated him. What if he thinks it was a mistake?
“Would you kiss me again?” Bill asks, nervous of his answer. He has to make sure the kiss wasn’t a mistake.
“Yes, definitely.”
Colin leans in, and kisses him. Bill kisses him back, and allows his instincts to take over. He brings his hands around Colin’s neck and deepens the kiss. Bill feels Colin’s arms around his waist. This feels different in the best possible way! A few moments later he pulls away.
“Where’s the cat?” Colin says slightly breathless.
“Oh, right, yeah. The cat. Where did she go?” Bill replies, as he also tries to catch his breath. Their eyes dart around the dimly lit space. As Bill looks down he laughs.
Colin thought Bill was going to point out how hard he is right now, but he discovered why he was laughing as he looked down. The kitten is curled up between Colin’s thighs, dozing peacefully. This is one of the best days of my life! In his euphoria he takes Bill’s face in his hands and kisses him. He pushes him back a bit, experimenting, and hears Bill moan. Damn, that’s hot! Bill does the same thing to Colin, it feels so good he also lets a moan escape from his throat. Colin soon realizes he’s getting dizzy, not from the sensation of Bill in his mouth, but because he forgot to eat. (Food! Not the man he currently has in his mouth).
“Are you hungry?” Colin manages to ask.
“Yeah, I could eat.”
“I’ll make you something.”
They make their way to the kitchen hand in hand, laughing, and Bill lets go to take a seat at the island. This gives Bill time to stare at this gorgeous man while he works. I can’t believe we kissed. He still feels love struck, and wants to kiss him again once he’s done. Once in a while, Colin turns to face Bill. He sees the smile still plastered on his face, and wonders if their smiles will be permanent.
Colin sets down a plate on the island, with what looks like a small version of an English breakfast. “Thank you.” He touches Colin’s cheek and presses a light kiss to his lips to solidify his gratitude.
“You’re welcome. And Bill?”
“Yes.”
“I was thinking we could name the cat.”
“Yeah sure, you have any ideas for a name?”
Colin realises it must have been fate that brought that kitten here, and his partner closer than he thought possible. Maybe there was someone above that set this in motion, and the name of that angel was…
“Toni.”
