Work Text:

It was a cool autumm afternoon, fallen leaves dotted the ground, colors ranged from dark red to bright yellow. Winter was around the corner and people all across the country were already getting ready for it. One of these people being Gregor: a man in his late 20s with short scruffy brown hair.

The brunet had been chopping firewood for some hours, his ax was starting to not feel as sharp as it did in the morning, he was tired and sweating like a pig — despite it being relatively cold that day. Gosh, did he need a break.

Gregor then heard weird noises coming from the bushes, wich was strange in that seemenly remote forest, he quickly gripped his blunt ax harder and braced himself, ready for an animal attack.

A skinny looking guy in a blue dress shirt appeared in the woods, in his right hand there was a butterfly net filled with them. "Wanna hold one?" he asked excitedly.

A wave of relief washed over Gregor, he was definetly not in the mood of fighting with a boar. "Yeah. You know, I've never held one before." the brunet gave the nameless guy a coy smile as he cleaved his ax in the stump he had just cut.

The guy walked towards Gregor, still holding the butterfly net. "I'm Anatoly. What's your name?"

"Oh, Gregor." he introduced himself, trying to figure out a way to hold one of the countless colorful butterflies.

Noticing him having a hard time with it, Anatoly used his other hand as an example to the brunet; relaxed with a slightly raised index finger.

Gregor finally understood, soon enough a shiny blue butterfly landed gracefully on his finger.

"Make sure not to crush it in between your large paws." Anatoly awkwardly blurted out the firts thing that came to mind, no bad intentions behind it.

"I won't." Gregor giggled at the commentary.

Gregor is starting to feel too light headed to keep a conversation or to even rewind memories as simple as these.

The only things his fuzzy brain can feel now being a piercing pain on three of his limbs and cold, freezing cold.

Not long ago, Karin had left him and the cabin resident alone to chat so she could make breakfast in the kitchen. That woman was something he was sure he would never figure out.

Her skin is too pale and perfect, hair too shiny and healthy, almost as if she wasn't even human in first place... Everything about that woman threw him off.

But none of that matters. At least, not right now.

"Can you... Cover me with a blanket? Please...?Consider it my dying wish..." he begs to the woman standing in front of the dark gray couch he lied on.

"Yes." She picks up a navy blue blanket and covers his deeply injuired body.

"Thank you... I'm much warmer now. All I wanted was to keep everyone alive and together..." Gregor pauses.

"But I failed. Are you... Are you disapointed in me?"

"Yes." she admitts harshly.

"Oh..."

A part of Gregor wants to give her a come back: 'Guess who didn't ration the food properly.' but he simply can't. He was to tired to do anything.

A minute or two of silence pass by, just the two of them looking at each other awkwardly.

Gregor felt his body going limp. "Ana...An..."

She silently watches as the last of Gregor's air escapes his lungs, the light leaves his brown eyes and his body relaxes.
