Chariot, Lovers and a Missing Fool

Summary:

Nyx was sealed, everyone had another day to live, except their leader.

Grief refuses to leave the hearts of both Aigis an Yukari, who share a brief moment in the rooftop, with only the moon as a sneaky witness and a lyre as it partner

Work Text:

Igor granted Aigis the ability to summon multiple Personas... like him...

It hadn’t been long since he... is no longer here.

SEES still suffers greatly from the loss of its leader. Especially the android.

It was he who taught her what a purpose is; now, without him, she no longer had a clear purpose.

On this particular night, the blonde android was thinking about him too much. She tried to shut those thoughts off, but it was useless.

Quietly, she left her room in the dorm and went to the boys’ floor, where she stood for quite a while in front of his door.

When she decided to enter, she saw the bed neatly made, a closet that hadn’t been emptied yet, and a notebook with his name on it and a pencil beside it.

The android flipped through the pages carefully, like someone who doesn’t want to break something valuable, until she found a note dated 7/2/2010.

When we fought Nyx, I finally understood the meaning of being alive. The ironic part is that, when I did, I wouldn’t be there to share it. I don’t think I can explain it.

A year ago, I wouldn’t have cared about my fate. Today, I’m afraid. I wish I could keep going with my friends, have something serious with Yukari, see Chidori get better so Junpei can get better, spar with Akihiko, have tea with Mitsuru, cook with Fuuka, pet Koromaru; I wish I could guide Ken through life...

And I wish Aigis wouldn’t be alone; I wish I could stay by her side so she can discover for herself what I already discovered.

I don’t think I can do that... but I take comfort in knowing they’ll be fine without me.

The robot couldn’t feel a “broken heart”; however, for her, it was very similar. Her circuits stopped functioning for a moment, and her thinking capacity was reduced for a minute. She sat on the bed to stabilize herself and store that memory in her hard drive so as not to forget it.

When she managed to stand up, she saw in the closet his Evoker and his SEES armband. She took both; in the morning, she would ask Mitsuru if she could keep them.

Aigis closed the door carefully and went up to the rooftop, where they still did a bit of gardening.

There, in solitude and in the middle of the night, Aigis summoned Orpheus.

The Greek hero began to play his lyre softly, almost like a lullaby.

Aigis listened to the melody. After a while, the blonde felt calmer; listening to it was the closest she would get to having him back. She was already heading back when the rooftop door opened.

“Aigis...? Are you here?” asked a female voice that the former recognized as Yukari.

“Yes, I’m here. I apologize for waking you; I’m heading back to my room.”

“Don’t apologize, you didn’t wake me; I just couldn’t sleep. Why are you here, Aigis?”

“I miss him...”

The girl in pajamas felt a knot in her throat.

“Oh...” she bit her lip and, her voice on the verge of breaking, said, “It’s... good to know I’m not the only one...”

“You were his girlfriend; my records indicate that a romantic partner suffers the loss more than most people.”

“Yeah...” she took a deep breath. "I was..."

The two sat in silence for a moment, until the brunette found her voice again.

“Hey, Aigis... do you think you could do it again? The music, I mean.”

“Of course.”

Aigis summoned him again. He began to play an even softer melody; his fingers moved across the lyre with mastery. He played like that for several minutes.

Yukari rested her head on the blonde’s shoulder. The latter looked at her curiously.

“I used to do this with him...” she said, referring to her place. “If you want, I can move.”

Aigis shook her head.

“I really feel like he’s still here,” said the brunette.

“Me too.”

“Could we do this another time? Sometimes it’s hard to be at peace with all of this, and honestly, it helps a lot.”

Aigis nodded.

Soon, the two grieving girls returned to their rooms.

Aigis kept that entire night along with the note, and at last, her thoughts stopped tormenting her.
