Entanglement

Summary:

A poem about possibilities

Notes:

Hi. Some people loved S3. Some people hated it. I’m somewhere in the middle. This poem is how I’m trying to think about it so that I can love it. I hope maybe this idea helps you love it too, if you want to.

I’m (obviously) not a physicist. Anything I’ve misunderstood about Quantum is totally my bad. But I love physics. So… Here.

Work Text:

Entanglement

In physics
it happens between particles
some action inextricably entangles
their destinies
and so forever after
what happens to one
happens to the other
Quantum is weird
Spooky action happens at a distance
and something changes right here

There’s other evidence for destiny
In the double slit experiment
particles change their behavior
when observed

Just measuring their motion
changes it

The theory to explain this is wild:
If unmeasured, light travels along all possible paths
Reaches all possible locations
Contacts all possible recipients

But if we pin it down by measuring it, it’s forced to choose for us
one slit or the other
and all other doors close
When we measure its passage,
we are committing to one path
we cease to be able to access the others
(They can still exist in other timelines!)
It is our knowing alone that strips out the other paths

At its finest grain, our reality is a fabric of possibilities

So

Two beings who love each other so much
yet could dance on the head of a pin
have this ongoing forever possibility
of Entanglement

In all times
In all places

They find each other
over and over and
over again

Their love is Quantum and infinite
an impression on the universe
like gravitational waves

Light bends to follow the arc of the universe,
surfing the rise and fall of it
reaching every corner
Space is not flat or finite
It is something other,
and love rides on its crests
forever
