Work Text:
How did they get here? O'shon thinks as he's trying to open some expensive looking chocolate. All he remembers is them talking about baking and how he never bakes brownies ever.
Now though, she managed to get some ingredients and now they're knee deep in flour and overpriced butter. They'd started off with Ava teaching him.
"Now okay people forget to preheat the oven, but when the batter goes in with a warm environment, that is how you get that perfect brownie taste." She starts clicking the timer on her phone
"How do you know how to do all of this?" He leans back on her counter. Arms crossed he sees her running around preparing everything. She hand him the chocolate to open. While yes, he did struggle, he got it open. Then he sees her start chopping up chocolate.
"My dad taught me, you know like before everything," Trying to sound casual, she answers, waving around the knife in her hand.
He gently grabs the knife and sets it down. He was trying not to freak out that she was opening up. "Alright cool. Whate'er we doing with the chocolate?"
"I need a pan and the good butter I ordered." She says opening and peering through cabinets.
"What?! What do you need a pan for?" He finds her one anyways in the cupboard. Handing her the pan he becomes immersed in her. She had found an apron and put it on and looked like a brand-new person.
"Watch your tone," She starts measuring the butter. "We need to melt it and add the wet ingredients then the dry ones."
" I do not know what that means, but whatever you say babe." He hands her some flour and who knows what else.
By the time the batter was in the oven, he was exhausted. The night had shifted from her doing stuff and asking him to help, to her scrolling on her phone. He saw her scrolling through her dads account online. He realized early on the slightest mentions of dad and she closes herself off.
Letting her be in her thoughts, and only the occasional question because he did NOT know what he was doing, she designated herself wash the dishes. Probably trying to avoid any questions
"Are you sure you added butter to the pan?" She'd been asking him questions since he put the batter in the oven.
And he was not sure he added butter to the pan. Opening the oven door and peering at the pan he answered her.
"Yes I'm sure, relax." He sees her not very subtly blowing hair out of her face.
"Okay. And what about the extra chocolate?" She points at him with the soapy sponge.
"I think we added all the chocolate we have in the house Ava, it will be chocolatey enough I promise." He gets up from his spot on the counter.
"Why did you use every single dish I own?" she grabs another spoon he had used. Washing it with a little too mush force.
"Uhhh probably so nothing would cross contaminate," He gets behind her, grabbing her hair out of the way.
"Thanks. And you know it all gets mixed in anyways right." She settles into his hold. "See this is how you learn. You make mistakes and you get to have amazing home-made brownies."
"Well you know I have an amazing teacher." He fixes his wrist that was starting to get tired.
"Stop trying to get lucky," she turns her head seeing him smiling, god this man. "You know if those brownies come out tasting like crap."
"You know if you were so worried about how the brownies taste, you would have help make them." The words leave before he realizes. Scared for her reaction, he braces himself.
He gets a wet smack on his chest, but yet the hand stayed.
"Well one. I was trying to teach you, and two, I wanted to watch you make them." She pats his chest before turning back to wash the dishes.
"Okay right. You got a hair tie, I am not getting blamed for your hair getting messed up." He changes hands, stretching the other one that was cramping up.
"So you hate me," She stops scrubbing, as if to enunciate her words. Sighing she answers. "Check my bag."
He quickly finds one and goes to tie her hair, "I don't hate you i just don't want to have to blame you for my wrist hurting."
"Stop making this romantic and tie my hair." She holds her breath, unsure of what to expect.
He slowly grabs all of her hair and starts tying it up.
"You know if this comes out good I'm gonna be suspicious." She finishes scrubbing the last spoon.
He finishes tying her hair, it's in a simple ponytail away from her face.
"My dad used to make brownies and he'd use them to make up for the fact he was 'late' from work and stuff." She drys her hands, Pointedly not trying to look at him.
Not knowing what to say he just turns her around so they're face to face.
"Well, I think your hair looks fine, and I think that these brownies are going to be delicious, okay?" He kisses her lips and goes to the oven.
"Well, I think we have some time to waste." He pulls her to the couch and kisses her. She returns it back, letting him lay her down on the couch.
Before things get further she says. "If this is what happens every time we make brownies," she barely finishes her sentence, him claiming her lips with his.
The brownies were almost burnt.
