Before her world crumbled

Summary:

This story starts before the show began, I wanted to give the starting world a bit more fleshing out and go through Kits journey in her own game. And hey, we all know how it ends.

Work Text:

“Kit.
She rolled over pulling her blanket over her head
“Kit wake the fuck up!”
she was woken up by a metallic slap to her head. She jumped up, knocking over the offending small rotund silver robot. His singular red eye glaring at her. “We don't have time to sleep in, Malice is still out there.” He extended his mechanical arms around her, carefully remaking her bed.
“Well Kaboodle, maybe I wouldn't have been so tired if someone didn't have me training till past midnight.”

The robotic man's arms retracted, she walked over to her mirror. She could hear the metallic clacking of his footsteps. She didn't pay attention to him as she brushed her brown hair and ears. fixed her goggles onto her head, making sure it sat promptly in between her two ears. She was already dressed in her yellow sleeveless mini dress and black tights. She stretched, finally looking back at Kaboodle, who was looking ready to explode again. She smiled, glad to see he was as ready as he was to get back at Malice for what she did.

“So what is it going to be today? Target practice, obstacle course, defeating some of Malice's bots?”
“Well actually you're gonna take on Anguish today.
She smiled “oh really? You finally think we are ready?”
The robot nodded, his metallic limbs looking around her shoulders as he transformed to his backpack form.
“Ive been training you for weeks, if you're not ready now, there's no way you'll ever beat Malice.”
She was so excited she jumped out her window soaring through the air as Kaboodle exclaimed in surprise. She landed in the town center
She walked over to the small corner shop, sitting down.
A big burly catfolk rested his arm on the counter, dressed in a chef's outfit, whose white color stands in sharp contrast to his dark grey fur.
“Hey Kit the usual today?”
Her stomach rumbled in response
Blushing a bit she quickly responded “yes please”
He laughed “always happy to feed a hero, thanks again for helping my wife find those plants by the way.”
“No problem Mr. Nuzzles”
The man turned on the heat, dumping a fresh salmon into the skillet.
“Please just call me Mittens.”
She felt Kaboodle slump a bit on her back. Probably resting. The man didn't show it but he's been working just as hard as she has training for this.
“Oh my, is that husband's famous fried salmon I smell?” a taller woman, her light brown fur and hair looking like the morning sun to her husband's nightly glow. She wrapped her metallic arms around the man, getting oil and grease all over the man's freshly cleaned chef outfit. the arms extended around his frame. “So what is the Mighty Kit up to this early?” she said, glancing over her shoulder.
Kit bounced on her seat “I'm gonna take down Anguish, Mrs Whiskers.”
The lady nodded in approval “bout time someone taught that hunk of junk a lesson”

As they about her future quest the man places a steaming salmon in front of her. Kit with grace and dignity scarfed the entire fish down in one bite.
“Hey Kaboodle, have you been feeding the lass?” Mittens asked, laughing.
The man in question stirred muttering “as if anyone could keep up with her appetite’
She spun around in her seat, feeling much more energized when she saw a pale white catfolk run towards her waving her hands. Wearing a blue coverall with light brown hair surrounding her ears, her right ear half gone. Eaten by mayhem when they and Malice first attacked their village.

“Hey Kit! How'd last night's training go?” whiskers asked, a wide smile on her face. Kit didn't tell her she saw Whiskers watching them train, she knew her friend was always worrying about her.
“ Ol grumpy here says I'm ready to take on Anguish.”
Whiskers ears drooped a bit before perking right back up. Pulling a juice box out of her coverall.
“Here take this with you then, and stay safe.”
Kit stored the juicebox away in her pocket.
“You know if anything were to happen, Kaboodle would drag me back to town.” she joked to whiskers, side eyeing the robot in question who had placed his eye on her right shoulder. “Well that's enough talking Kit, we gotta get to anguish’s lair before the sun starts to set.”
“Right of course “ she waved goodbye to her friend, bounding out into the woods surrounding her town.
3 hours later…

“Ugh” Kit sat down ,catching her breath. Wiping the sweat off of her face with her glove. Her companion jumped off her back and began pacing. “I thought you said you knew the way to Anguish.”
Kit thought about it. “I could've sworn he'd be this way.”
“Well I don't know about you, but I feel like we've just been walking in circles!”
Kit put on a forced smile, forcing down her irritation at his nagging.
“Well sorry. But unless a map falls into our laps, we will just have to keep looking!”
As she said that, a piece of paper comically landed in her lap. Confused she looked down to see “helpful guide, please pick me up “
Picking the paper up the writing shifted to a map of the forest, alongside a guide on how to best anguish.
“Huh, well look at that.”
Kaboodle looked over her shoulder, having stretched his legs to peer over her. “And how do we know this isn't a trap?”
Kit stood up, dusting off her outfit before neatly folding the map and handing it to Kaboodle
“Well, only one way to find out.”
