Chapter Text
The hit was simple: go undercover as a patron at the gala the Mysterio’s were hosting and take out the heir to the empire, Dominik, in one fatal swoop. It was easy enough to get a ticket to the event, given to Rhea by Edge, he was the one that wanted the Mysterio brat dead anyway. Mostly so he could use Rey Mysterio’s grief to get a better deal from the old man.
Rhea exhales and checks herself in the rear view mirror of Damian’s car from her spot in the backseat. Basic makeup, long black dress and extensions to hide her shorter hair. She looks over when Damian starts tapping his thumb against the steering wheel. “Why are you twitchy?” She questions before checking to make sure her ticket was in her bag, where it had been since she left. “Not twitchy, just wanting to fill the silence” he huffs, leaning back into his seat. “Sure, whatever you say. I’ll be back within thirty minutes. Meet you at the back entrance.” She replies as he brings the car to a slow halt among the procession. “Do you even ha-“ Damian starts before she cuts him off “My knife is hidden in my dress, I’m not some rookie.” She rolls her eyes “Take it easy, I’ve handled bigger people than some spoiled brat.” She says with a shake of her head.
Rhea twists herself and opens the door, carefully stepping out and shutting it behind her. She walks up the stairs and flashes her ticket. Due to the gala being a somewhat open event she gets in with no fuss, walking in among the other guests and into the main hall. She surveys the room quickly, noting the various men stationed around the room. To the untrained eye they were just other patrons here to experience the gala the Mysterio family had graciously constructed. But Rhea knew better than that, she was certain they would move around at some point, possibly getting in her way if she couldn’t figure out their rotation.
She plucks a champagne flute off a waiter’s tray and moves through the room, the event already in full swing. To the public, this was a charity gala for troubled teens. A night to get out and say you ‘did something good’ when the Mysterio’s were certainly anything but good.
Rhea takes her time surveilling, she already knows the various exits and points of escape. It will make fleeing the scene that much easier when it is all said and done. Killing the Mysterio brat will be the easiest job she has done in a while. She already knew from what Edge had told her that Dominik would follow a woman anywhere and Rhea would certainly use that to her advantage. She spots him after some time, talking among what she can assume are his friends. He's dressed sharp, in a black suit and black shirt. Every part of him was as perfect as the public image the Mysterio’s had curated. She takes a sip of the champagne, on the cheaper side but she could appreciate the drink.
Rhea keeps her eyes on Dominik, watching his relaxed state and how easily he laughs with his friends. It takes a few minutes before his gaze sweeps along the room then lands on her. She lets a smirk tug at her lips, watches as his eyes light up with interest.
Got him.
She watches as he excuses himself from his friends, making his way over with a smile, one that would be charming to anyone else. But to Rhea, it fills her with annoyance, of course he would be a charmer. One ready to make a woman swoon with a simple word.
“Hi” She starts off simply, letting her gaze rake over him in a way that shows interest.Rhea had learned a long time ago how to school her features, how to react to things. How to play the role of someone interested in another person. “Hello I’m Dominik, and you might be?” He asks and she lets out a chuckle, soft and careful. “Rhea,” she says. It didn’t matter if he knew her name, he wouldn’t be making it out of this building to tell it to anyone.
“So, what brings you to the gala?” He asks, not taking his gaze off her. Rhea lets out a hum,a smile coming to her face as the words she had practiced for the past week fell from her lips. “Oh the cause was more than enough to get me out of the house.” She says before adding on. “I’m so glad I was able to even get invited, I know so many people love what your family has done for the community.” She says, watching as he laps up her words. “We do appreciate you coming and I am so glad you’re enjoying your evening” He replies, Rhea setting her champagne glass down on a nearby table as Dominik speaks once again. “But, I would love to know more about you. If you would like to take a walk with me?” he asks softly, almost hesitating. And Rhea swears this will be the easiest kill of her life, he was offering himself up to her on a silver platter.
“I would love to, it is getting a bit crowded in here.” Rhea looks around before taking his outstretched hand. She walks with him into another room, the chatter fading away as the doors close behind them and she drops his arm to look at him, keeping the interested look on her face. She couldn’t drop her act and have him yelling for his men, the room would be swarmed in seconds, that was the last thing Rhea needed. She sees him melt against one of the walls, watching her with a curious eye. She pretends to take the bait, stepping toward him with a slow ease. Dominik’s hands settle on her hips while his eyes trail over her face. Rhea hums out “I’m sure you’re just so bored of all these galas and having to pretend to care.”
His eyes flicker to her lips “At least I found you tonight, we could make things more interesting.” His lips twitch up into a smirk. As he starts to lean in Rhea is quick to press the knife to his throat, a sneer forming on her face. “It’s just too easy, do you follow any woman into secluded rooms?” Her head tilts to the side, watching as his smirk morphs into a grin. He seems unfazed by the knife pressed against his throat. “You would think your dear old dad would have taught you better.” She adds, only pausing as he presses his throat into her knife.
That was not the reaction she had expected.
“I’m all for a little bit of knife play.” He mutters as she steps back, in her handful of years as a hitman Rhea had never seen anyone lean into the weapon she was going to kill them with. It’s enough to spook her, lips parting momentarily in shock before she bolts for the window sliding through the opening and back into the cool night air. She can faintly hear Dominik behind her, calling for her to come back but she rounds the corner of the building before he can try following after her. Rhea slides into Damian’s car, kicking her shoes off and pulling the extensions from her hair. She can see the question in his eyes yet he doesn’t ask, choosing to drive into the night. Far away from the gala, far away from Dominik Mysterio and his weird energy.
“I wish I was warned that the Mysterio kid was a little freak.” She huffs, running a hand through her hair in annoyance as Damian lets out a laugh. “What did he do? I’m assuming you didn’t kill him” He asks and Rhea leans forward “The freak pressed his neck into my knife, He has something wrong with him!” She exclaims, eyes widening as Damian lets out a proper laugh. “This is not funny Damian, Edge is going to have me killed for this. All because that little freak psyched me out.” She grunts in frustration.
“Relax, you’re too valuable to kill. Edge isn’t nearly that dumb.” Damian reassures her while Rhea rolls her eyes “He’s killed others for less, he shot a guy in the foot for bringing him the wrong kind of wine.” She grabs on to the back of the seat, leaning forward. “I’ll be lucky to leave with my life.” She pauses, jaw tightens “I’ll make sure the next time I see the Mysterio brat he will be dead, He won’t escape."
She lets herself lean back into the seat, eyes slipping closed to try and calm the anger brewing inside her. This wouldn’t be the last time they crossed paths, not by a long shot. Not with Edge looming over her shoulder, demanding she finish the job.
