~
Or Alex and Thomas are a secret couple and nobody except Peggy notices that anything is going on between them.

Notes:

Hey this is my first fanfiction that I wrote so I'm sorry for mistakes. Also English isn't my first language and I just translated the fanfic from my original writing. It was originally German and is also uploaded on my account.

I would be realy happy for comments and suggestions for improvement.

In the next chapter there's probably gonna be more Jamilton moments and more "detective work" from Peggy.

If you have ideas for the next chapter please write them in the comments.

Chapter 1: ~Peggy

Chapter Text

A complete normal day. A little exciting, but nothing extraordinary. It's just an internship in an Office. And yet Peggy is incredibly nervous as she stands in front of the large building, which must have forty floors. She takes a deep breath and then enters the lobby.

"Peggy Schuyler. I'm here about the internship," she said to the receptionist, who then led her into a small waiting area.

"Peggy?" a short man with shoulder-length brown hair and an emerald-green suit asked after a few minutes. Peggy stood up quickly and took a step toward the man.

"I'm Alexander Hamilton, but you can just call me Mr. Hamilton. I've been assigned the task of showing you around and explaining your duties," Alex said, and started walking. Peggy followed him quickly.

After taking the elevator up to their section, Alex showed Peggy around and pointed out various rooms.

"This is the break room. The coffee machine is easy to operate. That’s a good thing, too, since making coffee will be one of your duties—Jefferson," Alex began, just as another man, wearing a magenta coat and sporting a self-satisfied smile, walked into the room. He had green eyes, and his Afro bounced slightly as he walked.

"Hamilton," he replied, taking a mug from the cupboard and looking Peggy up and down.

"And you are?" he asked, turning on the coffee machine.

"Peggy. Peggy Schuyler. I'm doing my internship here, and Mr. Hamilton is just showing me around," she said, trying hard not to giggle—for the two men were staring at each other like elementary school children who had just had a fight.

"Come on, Peggy, we have to keep moving," Alex hissed, gently nudging Peggy toward the door.

"If you need anything, Miss Schuyler, come to me. You’ll get a better answer from me than from others" Jefferson called after her.

And for a split second, Peggy caught a glimpse of a faint smile on Alex’s face—a sweet, small smile. Then it was gone again. Once they were back out in the hallway, Peggy asked:

"And who is this Jefferson?"

"Mr. Jefferson is the Director of Finance and a huge asshole- I mean, we're not friends."

"Aha," said Peggy, but she didn't believe a word of it. The two of them didn't look like enemies, she thought.

Mr. Hamilton continued showing Peggy around and explained all her duties to her. As it gradually turned into late morning, they finished up, and Alex went to his office to work. Peggy was in the break room, waiting for a message telling her what to do.

*A New Message*

Peggy looked at her phone and checked the new message.

*From Mr. Lafayette*

"I urgently need Mr. Adams's new draft from yesterday. He should know which one I mean. Could you please bring it to me? Merci beaucoup."

Peggy set off immediately in search of Mr. Adams's office. It was at the end of the hallway, and when she entered, she saw a small man who looked a bit like an angry garden gnome.

"Are you Mr. Adams? Mr. Lafayette gave me the task of bringing him your new draft," said Peggy with a smile.

"Mr. Lafayette?! As if I didn't have enough problems already! Where is it—ah, there. Okay, here you go but tell him that next time he’ll have to wait longer. It’s purely a coincidence that I’ve already finished the draft," said Mr. Adams, muttering a few things that didn't sound particularly pleasant as he handed her the draft.

Peggy quickly took the draft and left the room. She did not want to stay with Mr. Adams any longer, as he had not been very friendly toward her.

She walked down the hallway, looking for Mr. Lafayette’s office. She checked every sign on the doors but could not find the office. Just then, Mr. Jefferson stepped out of a doorway, spotted Peggy, and walked toward her.

"Do you need any help, Miss Schuyler?"

"Oh—um, yes. I’m looking for Mr. Lafayette’s office. Do you know where it is?"

"His office is down the hall, the second door on the left."

Peggy thanked him and headed in the direction he had indicated. Now that she had seen Mr. Jefferson again, the tough about him and Mr. Hamilton crossed her mind once more. Upon reaching the door, she knocked, waited briefly, and stepped inside.

"Mr. Lafayette? Here is the draft from Mr. Adams. I’m supposed to tell you that next time you’ll have to wait longer, and that it’s purely a coincidence that he was already finished," said Peggy, handing him the draft.

"Ah, merci. Yes, well Mr. Adams is, unfortunately, just Mr. Adams. Why on earth did Washington decide that I have to work with him?" he muttered the last part to himself in his heavy French accent as he accepted the draft.

Peggy turned to leave again, but then froze mid-motion. She turned around slowly and asked:

"Do you know Mr. Jefferson and Mr. Hamilton?"

Mr. Lafayette looked at her briefly in confusion before a radiant smile spread across his face.

"Of course I know the two of them! Alex—I mean, Mr. Hamilton has been one of my closest friends since college. And Thomas—uh, Mr. Jefferson is my cousin. It’s just a shame that the two of them don’t like each other. 'Don’t like' is an understatement; they hate each other. Every day, they argue in the office about absolutely everything."

"So there’s nothing more to it than... hatred?" Peggy asked cautiously.

"Haha, no! Sure, they spend a lot of time together in the office, but they’re always bickering, and besides they have to work together. Why? Did you notice something?" At this last part, his laughter died down, and he looked at her with curiosity.

"No, no! I was just... surprised. Yes—surprised, that’s exactly what I was."

And with those words, she said her goodbyes and slipped out of Mr. Lafayette’s office. She found it odd that she seemed to be the only one who noticed the tension between the two of them. And she was fiercely determined to find out exactly what was going on.
