Noble Love: JimmyOhm One shot

Jimmy was, amongst the sea of privileged students, the superstar of the boarding school. He was tall on his feet even when he was younger, he was the tallest in the room. That meant that even when he didn’t want to, he stood out. He was always noticed and called upon because people just couldn’t help but notice the tallest in the room.

Naturally with great assets came great responsibility and compliments and after all these years Jimmy was immune to praise because that was all that he knew.

He received it easily for anything that he did, and it has been like this for as long as he could remember. His mother praised him for taking his first steps, friends praised him for being the first one in the group to get a girlfriend (they were seven) and when he stepped foot into the boarding school, he was praised for his looks and height.

Jimmy looked at himself in the mirror and smoothened over his uniform and fixed the little strand of hair falling over his eyes. He liked zero obstructions and he appreciated structure; everything had to be in its place. There were times Jimmy thought his attention to detail was a waste of time, but it always worked in his favour. He got good grades because of it; he became captain of the soccer team because of it and unbeknownst to him his particular trait got the attention of many potential romantic interests.

“Teetee I really need you to sit this one out,” Jimmy said after practice. Teetee was one of the few students who got a full ride scholarship and that causes him to overexert himself to his own detriment. Personally, Jimmy didn’t see why Teetee did so much because he was an amazing asset to the school. Teetee was hardworking, smart, well-mannered and trustworthy so Jimmy could never understand his constant need to keep proving himself, but maybe it was Jimmy’s privileged talking.

“Jimmy I can’t, you know I- ” before Teetee could finish his sentence he broke out into a coughing fit. Jimmy crossed his arms over his chest looking down at the boy trying, and hopelessly failing, to hide the coughs.

Jimmy knew that Teetee had a cold. He knew it from the moment he saw him that day, but Teetee was determined to hide the fact because he knew that his captain was strict, especially when it came to his best player.

“Come on let’s go to the nurses.”

Teetee decided against arguing because he knew it was futile. Jimmy was stubborn as an ox and unfortunately always right about many things. Soccer and colds do not mix and Teetee knew that.

By the time they got to the central wing it was already five in the afternoon, but it was okay because the healthcare wing was open 24hrs.

Jimmy didn’t like the healthcare wing, it was always too quiet, too dimly lit as the fluorescent lights provided no proper lighting in his opinion and the smell of disinfectant and rubbing alcohol was sickening.

The walls had these ugly flowers painted on them by the volunteer students and it showed, the lines were all the wrong. The colours were so vibrant like they were walking through a children’s hospital.

Jimmy hated those too.

As a child Jimmy was in and out of the hospital. The joys of being a child diagnosed with cancer. When he was finally in the clear and went home the same overly nice and careful characters his family turned into stayed. The house smelled like disinfectant and rubbing alcohol, just like the hospital. His room was dimly lit, and the walls were stripped of his jungle wallpaper, it was white and bare. They brought the hospital home with him.

It stayed the same as Jimmy got older and by the age of 13, he created a 10-part PowerPoint presentation on why they had to send him to the boarding school. His mother refused, her overprotective nature speaking before his words could process in her head. His father heard him, heard his silent plea for freedom from the constant reminder that he was sick, so his father spoke to his mother.

While unpacking his mother showed him the big bad of hand sanitisers that she packed for him and when they left he handed them all out to his first-year roommate and the rest of the boys who lived on his floor.

“Jimmy you can go, I am 16, I’m sure I can go to the nurse alone,” Teetee said as they got to reception.

That was another thing Jimmy couldn’t stand about his dear friend, the way he liked to act tough. Teetee wanted no one to help him, no one to know he was struggling, he was the definition of suffer in silence.

“Hello.” They heard someone say before they could start to quarrel.

Jimmy looked in the direction of the voice and saw a boy sitting at the reception desk. When did he get here? Was he there the whole time?

Upon another glance Jimmy realised that he knew the boy. They’ve never spoken, but they do have some classes together. Jimmy couldn’t look away from the boy and his soft angelic features. His smile was captivating and genuine; the type of smile that made you want to smile along. His eyes glanced down and stopped at his name tag ‘Ohm’ it read, yes of course, he knew that name.

Ohm was friends with Kim and Por. They were the probably the scariest trio in the whole school because of their affiliation with Por.

Loved by everyone.

Hated by everyone.

People couldn’t help but want to be on their good side, they craved the trio’s attention, and they just wanted them to like them. Jimmy always kept his distance because he heard that Por’s father chopped people limbs off and kept them as trophies, but that can’t be true of course, but Jimmy still wanted to be safe.

Ohm, as well as his friend Kim was the social butterflies of the group. He often sees them at soccer games and school socials. Granted they are on the decor committee, and they must be there no matter what. They are always livelier than their introverted friend.

But now Jimmy gets to see Ohm up close like this. No wonder everyone wants him around… he’s gorgeous.

“I have a cold so I just want to see the nurse,” Teetee started talking and Ohms eyes immediately went to Teetee. He was actively listening to the boy, nodding along attentively and when Teetee was done talking eventually Ohm was typing something, then gave Teetee some forms to fill in and then he was going somewhere.

Jimmy felt a little sad to see him go, but not after long Ohm was back. His bright and soul capturing smile still plastered on his face.

“Once you’re done you can go through to the blue door down the hall.”

Ohm spoke politely and Jimmy nodded eagerly, still not taking his eyes off Ohm.

Teetee looked at his friend. Surely Jimmy was not going to follow him to his consultation, right? He wasn’t that obsessed with making sure Teetee takes care of himself… right?

To Jimmy’s surprise he stays put, normally he would follow Teetee or anyone really to make sure they’re okay, but he didn’t move. He wanted to stay put in the presence of this boy.

Jimmy was never one for labels, wasn’t really one for dating in general but he has had his fair share of passionate moments with both men and women. Neither of these moments were for the public eye, they were always in darker corners or behind a wall where they could disappear from anyone’s watchful eyes.

Jimmy wasn’t the PDA type. He never felt interested in loud declarations of love and that’s why his romances never lasted long, the people he got involved with always wanted him to do things he wasn’t comfortable with like public displays.

Of course, the men he fooled around with were never that demanding and needy because there were bigger fish to fry, for example the trouble they would get into if the higher ups at school ever found out about these little love affairs between the boys.

“Uh… can I help you?” Ohm asked, his voice cut through the silent tension between them and Jimmy realised that he was busy staring at someone in complete silence.

“I- no I am fine…”

Ohm gave him a shy smile. Jimmy’s heart raced, that smile was for him. He was the reason for that smile that stayed on the boy’s face. It was his.

“I am Jimmy.”

“I know,” Ohm said with a chuckle and slowly stood up. He picked up his tote bag and cell phone.

Jimmy frowned instantly. Where was Ohm going?

“My shift is over; my colleague will be in shortly.” Ohm said stepping out from behind the desk.

Jimmy could take a good look at the man in front of him, still mesmerised by his angelic beauty.

“Can I… walk you back to the dorms?” Jimmy asked hopefully. He doesn’t know where the surge of confidence came from, yes, he usually made the first move, but it takes him days of working up the courage before he actually does anything.

He noticed the pink tint forming on Ohm’s cheeks and any sense of fear he felt vanished. There was something here.

That night they walked the long way to the dorms. They asked each other random questions ranging in depth and it felt like talking to an old friend. Jimmy ugly laughed without a second thought and took in everything about Ohm. How he walked, how he spoke and what made him smiled the hardest. He observed how he used his hands when he spoke about something that brought him joy and the way he attentively looked at you when you spoke, he was such an active listener.

In that moment Ohm wasn’t part of the big frightful three.

Wasn’t Por Suppakarn Jirachotikul’s best friend.

He was Ohm and to Jimmy Ohm was the greatest.
