Work Text:
After some long and agonising seconds, the verdict was handed down : Guilty.
Monokuma’s slot machine played a joyful sound ; multiple students let out sighs of relief.
Emma Magorobi was the culprit.
So that was it. She had achieved her part, and now had no reasons to stay in the play any longer. She knew it was supposed to be this way, she had willingly agreed to it. It might have been better for her to keep her unfortunate upbringing hidden, as she did enjoy her short-lived time there, but what was done was done. No one could revert it. And it felt good, to play the role of the villain. For once to be the one who hurts and not the one hurt by.
Emma looked around the room for whom would be the first to ask : why ?
How could you do this ? Why murder Kokoro ? and this and that. They knew why and yet they wanted to know. She was already tired from the way they stared at her.
Never mind the anger or the sadness. She had seen those so many times, they meant nothing to her anymore. Just another person expecting things from her ; just another face in the crowd.
No, what she hated, dreaded even, was the confusion, how they judged her.
All she had done, was fight. For her life, for her right to survive.
Not just survive, but live.
Yet they asked. They gave their opinion, on how better she could have acted; on how she could have helped, how they could have helped. And the truth was, she would have loved to take their extended hands into hers. But…
“The outcome is already set.”
Master Utsuro was already on his way, she had given up her life for his.
Her choice had been made long ago, therefore her wishes had no meaning.
The tall woman closed her eyes.
What was waiting for her at the end ? Nothing ?
Not a sight, not a thought ?
Could she reach Heaven ? Or Hell ?
The idea that her mind wouldn’t simply vanish, even if it were for eternal punishment… it didn’t seem so bad.
Was pain really that awful when it meant to keep on being ?
Granted, she had never been much of a believer ; no gods had ever come to her rescue when she needed it, outside of that one boy. Even him, could he be considered a God ? She wanted to think so.
Otherwise, she would have drained blood and tears for nothing.
What was it like to be dead ? What was it like to fall asleep and never wake up ?
For someone who had barely avoided death so many times, she had never once slept peacefully.
Death.
Death.
Death.
All she thought of, on the streets, under her blankets.
Death was her sleep paralysis demon. It crawled within the cracks of her bedroom floor, slipped into her mind and corrupted her heart.
One day, oh yes one day, it would catch up to her.
And that day was rushing forward.
It reached for her, grabbed her..
Emma’s blood ran cold.
“I don’t want to die, I don’t want to die ! I STILL WANT TO LIVE !”
The words scraped her throat.
In the blink of an eye, red liquid poured out of it. Her breathing stopped.
Emma Magorobi, famous actress, had been left as nothing but remains.
The curtains fell down.
The End.
