Chapter Text
Eliot started his day as he would any other, showering, getting dressed, etc. Nothing special was going on. The weather looked nice, the sun was shining brightly, so Elio decided to go on a walk.
During his walk, Eliot started to feel the heat. He assumed it was just the sun, but no, it was not the complete truth. Sure, it was a hot day, but it wasn’t all there was to it.
Eliot didn’t expect what happened when he went to sit down at a bench and drink water. He didn’t expect there to be a floating ring of flames forming around him and slowly creeping towards him. It soon grew from a ring into a sphere around him, and before Eliot knew it, he was knocked unconscious by the flames enveloping him.
When Eliot awakened again, he felt confused. It felt like he was in a bed, but wasn’t he just outside sitting on a bench? After a few moments of trying to figure out what was going on, he finally opened his eyes. The first thing he noticed was the ceiling. It wasn’t familiar, at least not in the way his room’s ceiling was. It had wooden beams, slightly uneven, darker in some places, like they’d been there for years. He stared at it for a few seconds, still half-expecting it to change back into something more familiar.
It didn’t.
He sat up slowly. The movement felt strange. Not painful, just… off. Like his body didn’t completely match what he was used to. He looked down at his hands and paused. They were rougher than before, with small calluses along the fingers and palm.
That didn’t make sense. He hadn’t done anything that would cause that. After a moment of calming down, Eliot decided to try to find a mirror somewhere nearby. Once he got out of bed, he felt a bit startled, like his feet weren’t his own, and when he tried to walk, it was a bit wobbly.
Eliot eventually found the stairways downstairs after finding nothing upstairs. The ground floor appeared as unfamiliar as everything else to him. Once he entered a room that looked like a bathroom, he saw a mirror mounted on the wall.
He went looking at his reflection, hoping something would finally make sense about this day. But once he looked at his reflection, he realized it wasn’t his own, but rather of a fictional character he’s more used to seeing in LEGO form, Kai, the elemental master of fire.
Suddenly, memories started flooding him, to the point he wasn’t sure who he was. On one side of his mind, there were Eliot’s memories, but on the other, there were Kai’s memories, and they were both fighting for dominance.
It took a good couple of minutes, but Eliot’s side won over, with it being mentally older than Kai’s side. Anyways, now that Eliot had the knowledge of where he is, he knew he had to prepare. So, he used Kai’s memories to let himself know where they kept a ladder in the house.
After all, securing the map to the Golden Weapons was the top priority.
Eliot- wait, would it be better for himself to refer to himself as Kai, even in private? Probably, he thought, and then shook his head to clear it.
“I need to focus, I’m getting needlessly distracted. Now, where is that ladder?” He said to himself before going on to get a ladder.
Then Nya called him over for breakfast. Right, he hasn’t eaten yet. He walks to the kitchen and thanks her for the food before sitting down to eat with her. Some time later, after the food was eaten and the dishes were cleaned, he got back to his search for a ladder.
After Eli- Kai found a ladder, he went outside, placed the ladder next to the entrance of the shop. He then climbed on the roof and looked behind the sign they had above the entrance, to see if the map was still there.
To his surprise and shock, it wasn’t there. He spent a couple more moments staring at where the map should have been in bewilderment. He then got down to the ground and returned the ladder to its place while his mind was running wild with different possibilities of what could’ve happened to it.
Did the show get it wrong? Does Wu have it? Did Garmadon send someone actually competent to steal it at night? All possibilities seemed likely. Kai didn’t know what to do. This throws into question all that he knows about this world. Suddenly, this New Game+ reincarnation of sorts seems a whole lot more uncertain and dangerous.
Well, best not dwell on all those ideas for now, if he isn’t wrong, the skeletons - whatever they were called, he couldn’t remember - attack might happen soon, and he can’t afford to be drowning in his own head if it does happen.
The rest of the day continued on as it normally would, Kai and Nya were taking shifts (Kai taking the longer ones, sue him, he liked it, and it was a good distraction from his discovery), blacksmithing. Though no customers came by that day.
The next day went on quite similarly, though Kai did notice that evening that there were some supplies that would need to be replenished soon. He decided to bring it up with Nya at breakfast the next day. Some time later, the siblings had dinner together and headed to their respective rooms.
While Kai was asleep that night, he dreamt of his past life’s family and the stuff they used to do together. When he woke up, all he could remember were just some blurry images of people who looked like they were dressed like in his old world. There was also a weird mix of nostalgia and familiarity cursing through him.
He shook his head and headed downstairs to do some morning smithing to calm down a bit from whatever that was. Unfortunately, he didn’t get to do so, as Nya had just entered the house with a pole on her shoulders, each side had a bucket full of water.
“I’m back! Kai?” She called.
Kai walked towards her before he said, “Hey, Nya, do you want some help with those?”
She then replied with, “I’ve got ‘em, thanks,” and set the buckets down on the ground before picking up one of them, and asking, “I’m going to go start breakfast, actually. You want anything?”
Kai thought about it for a moment before saying, “Uhh, I think I want some salad with boiled egg. If you don’t want to, I can try making it myself.”
Nya waved him off and said, “I can do it, don’t worry.” She then headed to the kitchen and called out to Kai, “So, how’d you sleep?”
Kai, naturally, followed her to the kitchen and gave his reply, “Thanks, sis. Uhh, I slept fine, some weird dreams, but otherwise fine. What about you?”
Her answer was, “I slept like a log.” She then lit a small fire in a clay stove and set a pot of water on top of it, letting it boil. “Remember anything from your dreams?” While she talks, she heads over to a wooden cabinet and grabs some lettuce leaves, which Kai only noticed she grabbed once she adds them to a bowl with some salad dressing.
Kai answered truthfully, “Not really, it’s kinda a blur of strangely dressed people, but like I’m watching them, it was weird.” After a moment of thought, he adds, “It feels like I should know them.” He shakes his head before saying, “Well, it doesn't really matter right now.”
Nya laughed before replying with, “Yeah, that does sound weird.”
“Yeah.” He then fakes coughs into his hand to change the subject and says, “Well, do you have any plans for after breakfast?”
“I was probably going to get some forging done, see if I can finish another sword. I know they’re not selling well right now but we might as well make sure we have a full stock. How about you?”
“Well, I was thinking of heading to town for a bit, I noticed we are lacking some materials.”
Nya passes a bowl of salad to Kai and opens the pot before adding two eggs. Afterwards, she asks Kai, “Do you want one egg or two?”
Kai accepts the bowl and sits down at the table. He then responds with, “One would be fine for me, thank you, Nya.”
She nods and adds another egg, stirring the water a little before closing the lid.
“While you’re in town, see if you can pick up some more steel billets—we’re running low. Oh, and see if we’ve got any more orders, too. It’s the start of the harvest season, after all, so I bet people are going to start breaking their tools soon.” Nya said.
Kai nods. Her request isn't too much for him. Hmm, it is the start of harvest season, maybe the farmers would want something?
He then decides to say, “I’ll speak with the farmers then, see if they want to order stuff.”
“Gotcha.” She says before shooting a glance out the window and shakes her head. Nya then says, “Don’t worry about perishables, though. I’ll go down tomorrow if we run out of anything.”
“Alright, sis. Anything else you want me to bring?”
She shakes her head before saying, “That should be everything I need, I think.”
He nods and then says, “Okay. Hopefully, we’ll have some customers today. It’s been a bit of a dry season of sorts.” Kai then lets out a sigh. Their business is low on customers lately.
Nya gives him a smile before saying, “Cheer up, Kai. I’m sure we’ll get some more customers soon.” She then gets the eggs out of the water and adds Kai’s egg to his plate before grabbing one for herself. She then continues with, “There’s just not much of a need for weapons right now.”
“Yeah, I suppose you’re right. Thanks for making breakfast, Nya.” He then goes to grab his fork and knife.
She always has a way of cheering him up.
Nya nods and says, “Any time.”
The siblings eat their breakfast, and Kai then puts on his shoes and grabs some paper and a pencil before going out to town. It wasn’t a long walk, but the shop was on the outskirts of town, so it was fine. Kai needs a bit of time to think.
Okay, so the map isn't in the right place, that doesn't mean nothing else will not happen, right? Best case scenario, this is a replica of Ninjago, but without the bad stuff, worst case scenario, Kai or some other guy and the other ninjas will have to fight all the season 1 and 2 foes without the Golden Weapons.
There are other weapons, and if Wu knows the material they're made from, Kai could try remaking them. Even if he doesn't turn out to be an elemental master, he could still help.
As he noticed that he's about to enter the village proper, he shook his head. Now's the time to focus on groceries.
He quickly got to the village’s market and approached his first people on his (mental) list, the farmers.
“Hello there, fine gentlemen.” Kai greeted with a smile, before continuing with his sales pitch, “I’m sorry for the interruption, but could I possibly interest you in making an order for some new tools or weapons at Four Weapons Blacksmith?”
After a bit more conversing, they gave their final answers, which were different, of course, but ultimately boiled down to ‘We’ll think about it’. Though he did get some orders that he had written down. Once Kai left for his next objective, he smiled. He didn’t manage to get all of them to agree, but he did get some orders.
He continued on his way, getting what he needed to buy, and leaving a word about the shop on the way. Once he had everything he needed, it was around midday, going by the sun's placement in the sky.
And so, he made his way back home. Once he got there, he quickly got to work on putting everything into place. After he finished doing so, he went down the hall to the kitchen to make himself a small, early lunch in the form of a salad. Afterwards, he went to rest a bit from his grocery run.
After a few minutes, he went to the blacksmith part of the house to do some smithing, but he noticed the water bucket was empty. Kai grabbed it and went to the water well to pump some water.
It was a short walk. The tiring part was the pumping, though, it wasn’t really that tiring, more like annoying. Nevertheless, he still pumped the water till the bucket was full enough. Afterwards, he carried the full water bucket back to the forge and got to work.
Before he knew it, the sky outside was turning orange, and evening was upon this area of the world. That was when Nya came inside the house. She must have left earlier while Kai was still out and about.
“Still hammering away in here?” Nya asked.
“Of course.” Kai then stops for a moment to show his latest work, it was only halfway finished, but it still resembled a sword. He then said, “I’m working on a new sword.”
Nya shakes her head before saying, “It’s not a sword until it’s finished, y’know.”
Nya grabs one of her finished swords and starts to wrap a leather handle around the hilt. And Kai went back to hammering his sword. The sound of the two tasks plus the heat from the forge were rather comforting. Kai wishes Samukai or any other possible foe wouldn’t show up and force this part of their life to stop.
A couple of minutes later, an elderly man enters the blacksmith shop silently, the only sound is that of his stuff, his footsteps silent. He pauses and scans the room for a reason Kai wasn’t quite sure of. Maybe he just wanted to see what he could before entering? Kai couldn’t say for certain. Either way, even if he acts a bit weird, Kai was happy they finally got a customer.
“Your metal is loud and heavy,” The elderly man said.
Oh. So he’s rude, Kai isn’t going to take it lightly that his and his sister’s work got insulted for seemingly no reason. Though he’ll let the older man explain himself a bit more first.
Luckily, the man continued speaking, “Useful to slow one down, but useless in the art of stealth. All tools for a samurai.”
With the end of his staff, he bonked the top helmet on a pile of armor.
“Nothing for a ninja.”
So that- Wait, elderly man, walking around with a bamboo staff and straw hat, covering white hair, and talking about samurais and ninjas, while stroking his long, white beard. That… that’s gotta be Wu.
Still, even if it is him, it gives him no excuse to be rude, but Kai will try to contain his irritation before talking out loud.
“Well then, sir, that might be true, but it is still rude to point it out in a store without even buying anything,” is what Kai said.
Nya chuckles before going to reprimand Kai slightly, “You know that’s no way to speak to customers, right? Sorry about my brother, he can be a bit… touchy, when it comes to his work.” The last part, she said to Wu
Who let out a small laugh, before saying, “No offence taken.”
Wu looks over the two of them, seemingly deciding something in his head. After he was done staring at the siblings, he said. “Hm. One has an edge, one does a better job at hiding it…“ - What does that even have to do with anything, Kai thought to himself -” You remind me of your parents… Perhaps that is a good omen.” Wu then turns to leave.
Well, we can’t just have that, now can we, Kai thought to himself, so he feigned surprise and asked a question, “You know our parents?”
Of course, Kai knew the answers. They fought together multiple times and were comrades, if not friends.
Wu raised an eyebrow, then let out a small laugh. Before saying, “Patience, grasshoppers.”
Kai shared eye contact with Nya for a moment, and in that moment, Wu disappeared. It was like he was never in the shop because he wasn’t seen at all from the entrance of the shop where the two worked.
Nya frowns before saying, “Well, that was… bizarre.”
“Yeah, he seems strange, lacking a bit of a filter, given his initial comment.”
Nya hums, before speaking, “I suppose so.”
With that, she goes back to wrapping her sword, and Kai continues hammering the matel.
The sky starts to darken, turning a deep purple. Villagers look up in confusion.
Oh no. Not now, please not now, Kai begs whatever god who might listen, but some part of him knew this would happen once he recognised Wu earlier. But he had hoped this wouldn’t happen since there was already one difference from the show he knew, the map not being where it’s supposed to be.
Rambling sounds like thunder were heard from the distance, approaching from the rice fields. It was accompanied by the sound of villagers screaming. When looking towards the rice fields, in the direction of the horizon, one could see dark and purple storm clouds blocking out the sun.
“Do you see that?” Nya asked.
On seeing this happen, Kai’s hammer fell out of his hand. Soon enough, the sound of engines could be heard echoing across the valley. Eventually, a horde of skeletal vehicles barrels into the village, skeletal motorcycles driven by skeletal figures descend onto the majority of the town.
A large monster truck pulls up to the blacksmith, alongside several of the smaller bikes. Three big skeletons are up there on the top of the truck. Kai couldn’t remember what they were called or what those guys’ names were, but he knew what they were here for, and who they might take from him.
In the background, there are numerous screams of countless villagers.
The skeleton in the middle, going by the way he’s dressed, must be the leader of this… troop? Anyway, General, as Kai is nicknaming him for now, let out a dark chuckle. He then barked out an order to his minions, “Well? Find that map!”
Seems everything is going like the show right now… Well, now's not the time to wonder about it, so Kai pulls out one of the swords lying around and heads towards the skeleton warriors, before calling out to his sister, “Nya, find shelter. I’ll try and buy you time.”
If everything was going to go as he remembers, then she's going to get kidnapped, hence why Kai tells her to run away.
However, Nya hefts the sword that she’s holding before saying, “I’m not about to sit back and let you do the fighting for me, Kai.” She then follows Kai into the fight.
The skeleton leader laughs before saying, “Oh? The children have some fire in them. You all know the drill!”
Several of the smaller, well, smaller in comparison with their leader, skeleton warriors approach the pair, all wielding large bones as weapons.
Isn't that kinda… Kai doesn't really know, but it seems wrong that creatures made from bone would fight with bones.
The skeleton leader doesn't move, holding his arms behind him as he watches.
Kai decided this was cowardly of him. If he really wanted the map, why not fight by himself, or at least lead the charge instead of sitting there watching?
So, in a rather stupider decision of his, he decided to say it to the skeleton leader's face, “Coward! Fight me yourself.” He tried getting into a proper fighting form, but due to a lack of training or the fact that he had no one to teach him, his form was just sloppy. He wasn't entirely stupid at that moment. He knows he can't win against the leader, but he might as well try, plus, gaining his full attention might help tip the end of the fight into something more favorable like Nya not getting kidnapped, hopefully.
In the meantime, Kai starts fighting nearby skeletons.
“Fight both of us, he means,” Nya says, which no, Kai didn't mean both of them. Unlike Kai, Nya doesn't try to get into a fighting form and instead fights with her hands, legs and sword, hitting multiple body parts at once.
The skeleton leader raises an eyebrow, then bursts out laughing. He then says with a bit of a mocking tone, “You? Challenge the mighty Samukai? … I suppose that's a delusion I can entertain.” He jumps down. Then stands to full height, towering over the two.
Damn, he's much bigger than Kai thought he'd be.
Samukai then pulled out his daggers. The blades were made of sharpened bone, and the hilts had skulls on them. One dagger was placed in each of his arms. He steps forward menacingly, an evil grin on his face, before starting to spin them. He keeps walking forward.
Nya starts backing up, trying to keep some distance between herself and Samukai. She’s got a sword in her hand and is keeping an eye on the shop’s entrance. Probably to make sure none of the skeleton guys enter, Kai presumes.
Kai walks backwards as well while trying to hold the sword in his hands more firmly.
Samukai chuckles before nodding to one of the skeletons that were with him in the monster truck, presumably one of his generals. The army of skeletons starts stepping forward too, herding Kai and Nya toward the entrance of the shop. Samukai then says, “Running away? I thought you wanted to fight.”
Goddamn it, Kai thought. He's playing pretty dirty, though he probably shouldn't have expected decency from him. Still, this doesn't look good for Kai and Nya…
“Well. ain’t this charming. I’ll fight you, but it doesn’t seem you want to fight fairly.” Kai said.
Samukai lunges forward with startling speed and decks Kai in the face. It was like he was one moment standing there in front of them from a bit of a comfortable distance, and then one moment after, right in front of Kai with his fist in his face, momentarily knocking him to the ground. But god, did that hit hurt like a bitch, he’d be sure to feel that for days.
Samukai grins before saying, “No. I don't.”
That guy was a real piece of shit, thought Kai. While he was still on the floor, he said, “You bastard.” Though it wasn’t clear if anyone heard him.
“Kai!” Nya cried out.
Kai didn’t see what she did as he was still on the ground. Unfortunately, Samukai’s attack’s aftereffect still prevented him from getting up on his feet to see what was happening. But he did hear Samukai saying, “That hurt. You little…”
Kai then heard a thud, which he could only assume was Samukai throwing Nya to the ground. How dare this skeleton piece of shit…
Much like Nya a moment ago, Kai also cries out his sibling’s name, "Nya!" Kai then forces himself to get back up on his feet with his sword in hand. Kai jumped high and tried to slice Samukai’s chest with his sword. He tried to make him feel some pain for attacking his sister.
While Kai hits Samukai, Nya grabs a bamboo staff from within a nearby bush before shattering it into tiny pieces across Samukai’s shins.
Wait, since when did they have weapons hidden in the plants near the shop? Kai thought to himself, some things just don’t make sense regarding the events he knows, but everything else follows the same trajectory so far… Oh well, food for later thoughts, now’s the time to fight and hopefully not die.
Samukai winces from one of the attacks, however Kai doesn't know which one caused the reaction. Though how he only winced is beyond Kai. The moment after, Samukai swatted Kai aside. Which, even if it hurt, still made Kai happy because he hurt the bastard. Said bastard then kicked Nya in the ribs and sent her hurtling across the battlefield.
By now, the siblings are completely boxed into the entrance.
“Why do the living have to be so annoying?” Samukai complained.
Oh, and you aren’t? Thought Kai.
“Why do you think?” Kai asked, not expecting an answer. Though he continued speaking, “Because we won’t just give up,” Kai said before he sprang from a crouch into a lunge, holding his sword in front of him and trying to spear Samukai through the chest.
But before Kai could even hit Samukai, the skeleton just sidestepped his attack and instead grabbed his collar, lifting him into the air as anger filled his eyes. His grip is pretty rough, breathing was getting a tiny bit tougher to do.
“Good work, Kai,” Nya says, her voice full of sarcasm. Kai turned to look at her and saw that she got back to her feet and walked over to him and Samukai. She had a very annoyed expression on her face. Nya then continued with the same tone of voice, “Surely throwing yourself at him will work that time.” She then turns to speak to the skeletons with arms spread wide, “What are you assholes even here for?” She asked them, before continuing, “Just wanted to beat up some blacksmiths? Tired of using bones for swords?”
Samukai looks at Nya with contempt, then looks back at Kai. His tone drops half an octave when he talks, “Where’s the map, boy?” Samukai practically growled before shaking Kai slightly.
Wouldn’t Kai like to know that too… But he can’t let Samukai know that, so he pretends to look and sound confused to the best of his ability. Kai asked him instead, “What map? You came all the way here for a fucking map we don’t even have? Who do you even think we are?”
Hopefully, Kai managed to fool him, but something about the way Samukai stared him down before dropping him in a crumpled heap gave him a bad feeling.
Being dropped in a crumpled heap does, in fact, hurt when it happens, especially so after being held by a super big skeleton, one much bigger than a human being.
Samukai turned to the skeleton general he silently communicated with at the start of the fight. “...Raze the building,” He said in a dismissive manner, as if he didn’t just tell his general to destroy Kai’s and Nya’s childhood home.
Kai’s heart felt like it stopped for a bit. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
“You can’t-! No!” Nya shouted the words, but that’s exactly what Kai’s mind is screaming too,
At Samukai’s order, skeleton soldiers start barging towards the house, banging on the walls, breaking down windows, and swarming inside. Once inside, they started ripping apart the cushions, prying up the floorboards, and wrecking whatever they could.
Nya grabs a staff and tries to stop them, but the skeleton soldiers just ignore her, reconstituting as soon as she takes one down and just continuing their attack on Kai’s and Nya’s house. Kai was still on the ground and couldn’t help her.
“Stop it!” Nya screamed, her voice full of pain and anger.
“Grab the girl.” Samukai said, before he turned to look at Kai, and continued, “I'll take care of the boy.” Kai was staring at him as he took out another pair of daggers and spun them while raising them up, as he stepped forward. Kai could almost see his own death play out, before-
“Get off of me!” Nya.
And just in time, a familiar shout echoed through the air.
“Ninja… go!”
Wu then slams into Samukai in a blur of golden, spinning energy. An actual real-life performance of Spinjitzu.
Samukai looks at Wu with pure contempt for just a moment before saying, “Sensei Wu. Your Spinjitzu looks rusty.”
“Nothing like bone to sharpen its edge,” Wu said.
The two clash. Wu having the upper hand.
While Samukai and Wu are fighting, Kai gets off the ground, rubbing his collar area for a moment to ease some of the pain there, before he picks his sword back up from the floor. “God, that guy has a strong grip," Kai said to himself before he attacked the skeleton soldiers that started to surround him as well.
Nya headbutts the skeleton soldier that was holding her and fights with Kai, both of them are doing their best to try and stop them from ripping apart their home… to no avail. No matter how many they take down, each and every one of them always reforms and gets back to destroying the house.
After a couple of minutes, suddenly, the horde of skeletons ceased, and Nya grinned, as the skeletons were leaving. Kai wasn’t sure, but something was wrong. They wouldn’t just suddenly leave, either they found the map, which wasn’t possible, or something is going to happen very soon…
Nya then said, “Is that all you’ve got?” and laughed. She then looked eyes with Kai and her grin widened.
Suddenly, a massive bone hand launched from one of the trucks and grabbed Nya.
No. He won’t let this happen. He won’t.
“Fucking- let me go!” Nya yelled before the bone hand retracted, yanking her up onto the truck as the skeletons retreated.
“Nya!” Kai yells with worry and fear fully coloring his voice, as he runs after them, throwing his sword towards the truck that holds Nya prisoner, but it falls to the floor. “Let her go! You bastards!” He yells at them
While Kai is still running after the trucks, the distance between them grows ever larger. At one point, a small truck passes by him with Samukai on it. A few moments later, Wu passes by Kai in his sprint, almost catching up to the trucks, but before he could make it, a portal splits the air, and the skeletons are gone.
Kai stops in his tracks and keeps looking towards where the portal was just a moment ago, where Nya was. He had failed to save her.
‘No. No no. No no no nononononon-’ ‘No, please don’t let this be happening’ ‘This cannot be happening’ ‘This is all my fault, I should have just taken her and run right at the start’ Those were just some of the thoughts going through Kai’s head at lightning speed. His eyes were getting filled with tears that he refused to cry.
“I… am sorry.”
It took Kai a moment, but he registered Wu’s voice saying that he was sorry. What for? He didn’t bring Samukai here, and he tried to help as much as he could during the battle. He didn’t know what to say, but he turned to look at Wu eventually and saw that he wore an apologetic and sympathetic expression.
“I-” Kai started, but stopped for a few moments. What could he even say here? After a bit, he decided to try speaking again, “Why are you sorry?” Kai asked, and then continued with another question, “You didn’t bring those crude skeletons here, did you?”
Wu started speaking soon after, “No. That would be my brother. And the one you saw today? That was Samukai, a warlord from a darker time, banished to the underworld for all eternity…” He stopped for a moment, seemingly debating what else to add, if anything, before he continued, “Now under my brother's rule. Long before time had a name, my father, the First Spinjitzu Master, used four Golden Weapons of Creation to create Ninjago as we know it. Your father knew where those weapons were, and my brother wants to use those weapons… to reshape Ninjago in his own image.”
Goddamn, that’s a lot of information to throw at a person in an emotional state. Even though he knew all of this already, and what it meant, but Wu doesn’t know that he knows. So, he needs to ask questions. Maybe that will also remind him of some stuff he could have forgotten, it’s been a while since he watched this part of the show. Of course, he still remembered the overall arching narrative of season one, but not some specific stuff like the names of the skeleton guys or what they are actually called.
Though Kai is a bit surprised he would share all this info straight away, and it let it show and be heard in his voice when he speaks, “So, what you’re trying to tell me is that different worlds or dimensions exist and that your brother is some big bad guy, and that the guy who kidnapped my sister is old as fuck? And that not only do you have a brother who employs a warlord, but your father created the damn world with weapons which your brother wants to reshape reality with? Did I get that right?”
Wu’s response was, “The realm, but… yes. And if you want to get back your sister, you'll need to get stronger.”
“Oh, that makes sense, I guess. And I will get her back. I’m going to break that Samukai guy to pieces if I have to, to get her back.” That Kai promises to himself.
Wu narrows his eyes. He then says, “Not without training… I came here today because your father was my friend. I wanted to pass my teachings onto his son.” He pauses for a moment before continuing, “Kai. A great fire burns inside you. If you want any hope of saving your sister, come with me. I will train you. Teach you martial arts beyond what you could imagine. And teach you how to protect others. This is your destiny.”
While he is right, it is Kai’s destiny, he’s also dumping a lot of info on someone he has just met. So Kai decides to appear skeptical about Wu’s offer, and narrows his eyes before speaking, “While that all sounds nice and all, I still don’t know you, no offence. I want you to answer some questions first. If you will.”
“Very well. Then ask, and I will answer.” Wu says as he starts walking, motioning for Kai to follow.
Kai takes one long, last look for the foreseeable future at his ruined house and shop before following Wu. Once Kai caught up to Wu, he asked his questions, “Well then, you mentioned you knew my father twice by now, once when you compared me and my sister to our parents, and once just a moment ago, so when and how have the two of you met? Plus, what’s that ‘great fire’ stuff?”
“Yes, I knew your father. He fought in the Serpentine Wars. So did I. Kai, your father was a master of fire. Like him, you carry that same power, the power to command fire at your will. And if you have any hope of saving your sister, you need to learn how to use it.” Wu explained.
Hmm, so he explains I have the power to command fire, but not how to activate or use it, at least not yet. No matter, those powers will wake up soon enough, then use and control would come with Wu’s training, hopefully.
“A master of fire? Hmm, sounds… interesting. Alright, since you are so adamant about it, I’ll come with you, for now.” Kai said at last.
Their journey was then spent kinda in silence, except for the chipping of the nearby birds, the ruffling of the leaves, their footsteps and Wu’s staff tapping against the ground. It was rather peaceful for the time, but Kai wasn’t having it.
Nya was in danger, and he wasn’t capable of doing anything yet. He didn’t even have the map to where the Golden Weapons were. No matter, he knew his one was in a fire cave, Zane’s were in some frozen cave in the mountains, the problem is you have to sail to get to the mountains, if he remembers correctly. He couldn’t remember where Jay’s was, but Cole’s was at the bottom of a huge chasm in the middle of nowhere.
Each of those has a dragon that matches the weapon’s element, and the group will have to convince each of them to come with them without being made into fried ninjas.
Anyway, as the journey went on, Kai and Wu talked a bit more, Kai asking about the place they're going and what the map Samukai asked about was. Wu explained that they are going to a place called the Monastery of Spinjitzu, where Kai’s training will take place, and that the map Samukai referred to was the map to the four Golden Weapons.
This was stuff Kai already knew, but he needed to hear it from Wu to establish a timeline of events for his knowledge about this stuff.
An hour later, they decided to make camp for the night. It was already late, and proper sleep did plenty to help improve someone’s mood and energy, though Kai couldn’t sleep at all that night. The next morning, they woke up early and shared tea for breakfast. It was not too long afterwards that they encountered the first mountain in their path. However, Wu wanted them to climb it instead of staying on the carved path. And after some pointless arguing, climbing they did, Wu actually explained how to do so properly when he saw Kai struggling.
Their journey went on like this for a while longer. Eventually, they reached a mountain that reached beyond the clouds. Kai had a high suspicion that this was the right place. No matter that this mountain was huge, there were no staircases in sight, so Kai couldn’t even ask about that as an alternative. So, climbing away they went, even when they reached a part where they had to move horizontally, and boy was that part a bit scary, but eventually they reached the top, and the Monastery of Spinjitzu.
