Work Text:
Their first meeting as independent operators in a changed galaxy was on a dusty, grey-blue moon in the Mid-Rim with nothing to its advantage except that it had nothing to its advantage. There was a cantina an hour north-east of the equatorial space elevator. Two days and three systems prior Theron Shan, with nothing but a duffel and a pair of dirty overalls, like any other itinerant worker, had caught a mass transport hopping industrial ports to make it here on time.
Lana Beniko had come as herself. When he walked in, she was already waiting for him at a table near the back. He ordered the same cheap beer everyone was drinking and slid in opposite her.
Her yellow-eyed regard was amused. 'I see the invasion has been treating you well.'
'Don't you Sith know the meaning of "undercover"?'
'I'm not going to be here long enough to attract notice.' She sat back. 'It's good to see you.'
Despite her composure, she looked wan. 'It's good to see you too.'
He stretched out his legs under the sticky table. His feet collided with hers. She didn't move away. For the first time since Ziost, Theron Shan felt himself smile.
