Under Bright Skies

Summary:

Pavel is a proud Red soldier, a tribute to his Commander's good teachings, an excellent infiltrator, loyal to a fault, and a ruthless asset. But above all else he is a hopeless, pathetic romantic.

Artyom was given the title of Savior for an act he would do anything to take back, he is risen up on a pedestal for something that is unthinkable. He just likes having someone to listen to, someone who can be his escape.

And Melnik is just really, really tired.

(Collection of various small writings I do, usually only 1-3 scenes, all are vaguely connected through my own headcanons and canon-divergent AU but won't necessarily be in any chronological order. Some may be reused in or spawn larger fics but will remain here to look back on. Most tend to focus on Pavel b/c he is my fucked up wife <3)

Chapter Text

Pavel’s hands shook as he stole a glance behind him. Artyom was doggedly following along behind him, head angled to the side as he studied a portion of the tunnel wall. Pavel absently thumbed the Red Line patch on his thick coat, rubbing back and forth, back and forth.

He honestly didn’t think he’d even ever get this far. When he started out on this mission he figured Korbut had finally gone senile, what the fuck even is a Dark One? He never expected he’d be bringing back not only the news that there was a baby Dark One, but also a Ranger perfect for the Cause. Sure, he wasn’t bringing back what he’d been sent for but General Korbut had to see the benefits of having a reputable, generous Ranger in their faction. Its not like Pavel had ever even asked for something like this before – it was a one time thing!

He shook his head and smiled to himself slightly, “Nu davai! Let’s go, Artyomovich, let’s go! We’re almost there.” His hands moved along with his mouth, jerky short movements.

Artyom startled, quickening his pace to fall back into step with Pavel. Pavel chuckled lightly and bumped up against Artyom in good spirit. Artyom pulled a mock-affronted face and shoved him back, sending Pavel stumbling with the force. Pavel laughed louder and took the chance to resume his leading position.
