Work Text:
It had been three months since the incident.
Three months since his world was turned upside down.
Three months since he sobbed under the firework light, reading a letter of a dead man, addressed to him, telling him to keep moving forward, that he was capable of doing amazing things.
Avery found it hard to believe after everything, after the puzzles, after the impossible became possible, and he had to just.. Live with it, live with what happened on that fateful day. He thought it was just a story of some kind, something to make his life more interesting, make the colors he saw less dull.
A loud strike of thunder pulled him away from the thoughts that constantly threatened to spiral into something much darker
His laptop was still in front of him, open on a document.
Right, he still needed to get his work done
He stared at the blinking cursor for a solid minute before he groaned, and collapsed back into his bed, staring up at the blank ceiling of his dorm room.
He couldn’t get it all out of his head! It was all just from a stupid game. He wanted to think it was something elaborate, a joke even, some weird adventure map. But it felt so real, the messages that were left. The nearly fourteen hours of searching for him, of that peaceful graveyard he spent so long in..
what would’ve happened if those signs Derek placed weren't there? What would’ve happened if he just.. Stayed like that? Never making it through the rest of those worlds?
He felt a cold feeling on his cheeks, he didn't even need to question what it was. He already knew and was sick of it.
He wanted to believe none of this had happened, he wished that he would be able to talk to Derek again, but actually get to know him and play games with him, even just hang out. That's all he wanted. Wanted to know the man who knew everything about him
But instead it was just one note.
A loud knock sounded out through the small dorm room, the door wasn’t locked, so it wasn’t his roommate so..
Who was it?
