Work Text:

They did it. They won the comp.

Everyone is celebrating at Riley’s house right now, but he still couldn't believe it. After all the drama and fights, they still fucking did it.

Alex was playing some kind of drinking game with Cody, while Sam was pouring them shots, and Charlie was queueing up Rachel’s song suggestions on the speaker.

Riley looked around, realizing he hadn’t seen Trey in a while.

“Hey, you guys seen Trey?” Riley asked Alex, who was probably too drunk to even think anymore.

“Uhhhhh…… no idea dude.” Alex replied after (attempting) to form a thought for 10 seconds.

Seeing as no one would be much help, Riley decided to go look for Trey himself. His first thought was his bedroom, which had slowly turned into, well… their bedroom.

When Trey first started staying with Riley, he insisted on sleeping on the floor until Riley convinced him to share the bed. Riley swore he could sometimes feel Trey’s body pressed against his own at night, but when he woke up, Trey was on the furthest side of the bed.

Riley’s favourite thing about having Trey stay with him over the past couple weeks was simply being able to spend so much time with him, especially that first week after the showcase night when they didn’t go to school. They spent all day in Riley’s basement playing games, or just talking about anything. Everything.

Everything but the fact that Riley definitely has developed a stupid massive crush on Trey. Or more likely he probably just realized, because looking back as far as Grade 9, Trey was totally Riley’s gay awakening. Or whatever. He’s tried not to think about it recently with everything going on, but now that the comp was over and he was a little bit drunk, he couldn’t stop thinking about everything he was trying to suppress.

It didn’t help that as he opened the door to -his- their bedroom, Trey was lying on -his- their bed, and Riley’s heart did that stupid flutter whenever he sees Trey existing peacefully, because fuck he loves him so much and wants to spend his whole life with him, playing games together, winning comps, sleeping in the same bed, kissing him-

“You’re staring.” Trey grumbled, face down on the pillow.

Right. Riley was standing in the doorway staring at Trey for who knows how long daydreaming about kissing him because he’s so in love with him and he doesn’t know what to do about it.

“Was wondering where you were.” Riley said as he sat down on the edge of the bed. He suddenly felt nervous around Trey, because he really needed to confess his feelings or he was going to go insane.

Trey lifted his face from the pillow and looked at Riley. “Dude you’re acting so weird, what’s wrong?”

Riley shook his head rapidly. “Nothing!! It’s just-” Riley paused. “I- The comp you know?! It still doesn’t feel real that we won.”

“You’re really bad at lying, you know that, right?”

Right.

Trey sighed. “Just tell me what’s up dude.” He said as he sat up next to Riley on the edge of the bed.

Riley’s face turned red. “I can’t say…”

“Why? Ooooh do you like someoneeee?” Trey teased. “I saw what you said to Rachel earlier, super smooth by the way.”

“It’s not Rachel.” Riley replied, quickly regretting it.

“Oh so there is someone?” Trey moved closer to Riley. “C’mon man tell me! I’m a really good wingman, trust me! I could help you out!”

Riley realized he was not getting out of this now. He shook his head. “I don’t think you could ‘help me out’ with this.”

Trey opened his mouth but Riley cut him off before he could speak.

“Because-” Riley took a deep breath. (breathe innnn breathe outttt and drop drop drop drop)

“Because I like you.”

“Riley-” Trey began.

“And I know it’s stupid because obviously you like Charlie and I don’t even think you like guys so can we just like pretend this never happened so it’s not awkward and-”

“Riley, I don’t like Charlie like that. Not anymore.” Trey said.

Riley looked up. “Wait, what?”

“We talked after the comp, and we decided to just be friends. And also-” Trey’s body was fully facing Riley now.

“I’ve been thinking about it for a while, before I even met Charlie, but I think I really realized it tonight.”

“I like you too.”

Riley’s eyes went wide. “Holy shit, really?”

Trey leaned in and ohmygod this was actually happening, Riley thought.

Suddenly, they heard the door open. They both panicked and turned around.

“You’re fucking joking.” Trey sighed.

“Oh shit this isn't the bathroo- AYOOOOOO???”

Riley knew he shouldn’t have invited Cody to the afterparty.
