Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Chuuya Nakahara was always known for being a bitter, sour boy.

His only friend was another boy named Dazai. Dazai and Chuuya had been friends since they were small children, and from the moment that they met in the park with the lemon tree, they’d been almost inseparable.

But by now, it had been many years since that day behind the lemon tree.

Dazai had many friends that weren’t Chuuya, and while the redhead tried to be friends with other people his age, it was clear that people weren’t drawn to his aggressive and loud nature. They much preferred Dazai’s easygoing, semi-quiet self.

So the two boys began to drift. While both had friends, neither of them had a best friend. A confidant who wouldn’t judge whatever happened or whatever they said.

As time progressed, they separated in more ways than just going from inseparable to “just friends”. Dazai moved to a different part of Japan, whereas Chuuya stayed in their small coastal hometown.

But fate had a way of doing things.

If you weren’t done with a person, you weren’t done. Fate was going to find some way to bring you back to this person you had undone responsibilities with, whether it was good or bad or if you wanted it or not.

And now, Dazai and Chuuya were long overdue for their reunion.

It had been more than seven years. Seven years since the two ten year olds had stepped behind a lemon tree and shared a slice of lemon pie. Seven years since the two best friends had felt something other than the camaraderie of loneliness. Seven years since Dazai had been in the small coast side town of Yokohama.

And now, seven long years later; fate was about to fix all those loose ends that had been left untied all those years ago.
