Work Text:
I thought I would miss you.
Instead I learned you never cared at all.
As I stare at the ceiling fan, mulling over the past, I feel all too separated from it. The laughs, the nights, everything we'd shared. All means nothing now.
And I realize that's for the best.
If you had ever cared, you would have been more willing to talk. I was a fool, really. I was a fool for thinking things would have changed. I am a fool now for remembering that you once cared.
I cannot pinpoint the time you stopped. I cannot pinpoint the day you forsook us for the others, nor can I recall when I first noticed. All I can remember is what you said, and how nasty you were.
I smile. I am proud of myself now. You are gone. I put myself forward and you were left behind. You are only a memory in my world now. It is a wonderfully free feeling. Motionless, I feel the exhaust evaporating from my joints. It's funny, you never truly realize how someone holds you back until that someone is gone.
It ended so silently, just by walking away. I was prepared for a talk, a fight, even, but I just left. And it was over. And I didn't even think twice. I don't even miss you.
There won't come a day where I miss you, not anymore.
