A slight grimace etched itself onto your features when the young child named Mikaela Hyakuya entered through the doors of your master's mansion. He looked at you briefly with eyes that shone with determination and a willingness to live and protect all those that he held dear, and you couldn't help but feel pity towards him. You knew that he was up to something; you've seen him snooping around the mansion after his meetings with your master, but you knew your master quite well.
Ferid Bathory was no fool. He knew full well what Mika was doing, but the vampire decided to play along with him. It was just another one of his games to pass the time, exactly like how he played along with you all those years ago, and your lips marred themselves into a frown at the memory.
It's been quite some time since Ferid had turned you into a vampire. You weren't sure why; he said that he needed a sacrificial pawn to use in his secret plans, and you were the one with the misfortune to have been chosen. He gave you no further explanations, and after the long struggle you put up, you had no choice but to submit to him in the end.
Nobody else knew anything about you. All the other vampires just assumed you to be a newly turned vampire of someone of low status whom Ferid decided to take in as a pet of sorts for amusement. They would have never guessed that you drank the blood of a seventh progenitor. Your master was absolutely careful and diligent in maintaining yours and his secret.
Nobody really understood what Ferid was thinking, nor were they any successful in trying to make sense of his eccentrics, but you knew. You knew that Ferid Bathory was not a man to garner the attention of, so when this young boy with blond hair first visited the mansion, you felt sorry for him and whatever cruel fate awaited him in the future that you were certain Ferid was planning.
Pressing your lips together in a firm line, you tried to bury away whatever emotions you felt. You learned the hard way that if you were going to continue living as a vampire, especially under someone like Ferid, it would be easier to cut away your emotions. You placed your hand atop Mika's shoulder, sparing a moment to look directly in his eyes, and guided him to where Ferid was waiting.
You knocked on the door and announced, "Hyakuya Mikaela has arrived."
"Bring him in," you heard the familiar voice of your master on the other side of the door.
Upon permission, you opened the door and ushered the boy inside. You parted your lips to warn the child to be careful, but you held your tongue. It was better to just remain quiet, especially since you were sure Ferid would've heard you. Instead, you gave him a concerned look despite your efforts to not feel anything for the child, for both his sake and yours. You spared a glance towards Ferid and felt a chill run down your spine when you saw the look in his eyes. You lowered your head out of fear and closed the door without another word.
Days continued on like this, and in some way or another, you had ended up getting on good terms with the young blond male, causing you to feel very conflicted. You didn't want to get close to him because you knew things would not end well for him, but it happened anyways, much to your chagrin. Mika was still more or less cautious of you since you were a vampire, but at the very least, the two of you were able to hold a pleasant conversation with each other.
"Mika, don't you think that what you've done is enough?" you asked him one day when you were out patrolling the streets, deciding to take a break to talk with the young child whom you coincidentally happened to encounter in a secluded area of the city.
"What do you mean?" Mika tilted his head, not quite understanding what it was you were talking about.
You heaved a sigh as you tried to explain, "It's dangerous for you to you keep this up. You're a smart boy. I'm sure you've realized by now just how dangerous Ferid actually is."
"I'm fine," Mika tried to reassure you. "I have to do this. For my family's sake."
You closed your eyes and gave up on trying to convince him any further. The moment he mentioned his precious family, you knew there was no chance of changing his mind. You thought it was foolish how he could still hold onto such hopes and the like, especially since the world has become like this, but you had to admit that it was kind of admirable at the same time.
"Don't say I didn't warn you," you gave a final sigh, ending the conversation as you turned to resume your patrol of the city.
A few days later, however, you had heard from Ferid of the events that transpired at the exit of the city with Mika and his family. The noble looked at you with an amused glint in his eyes as he finished recounting what happened, and he asked if you wanted to see the newly-turned vampire. Swallowing the lump in your throat, you gave a shaky nod
You followed behind Ferid as he went to visit the vampire queen, as well as the one who turned the boy whom you considered a friend to a vampire, Krul Tepes. When you entered the room, you could feel the malice the female vampire held towards Ferid as she glared icily at him. The atmosphere felt thick and heavy, and you wondered if the fact that you were currently kneeling was no longer just to show respect.
"What do you want?" Krul asked, her voice practically dripping with venom. Her fingers rhythmically and impatiently tapped against the armchair of the throne she sat at which sent chills down your back with each sound.
Ferid, however, was unfazed, and smiled cheerfully. He went on to explain how you were friends with Mika and that you wanted to visit him. As he explained his reason for appearing before the vampire queen, you couldn't help but hold your breath when Krul's eyes landed on you. She gave you a scrutinizing look, quietly judging you, and you tried not to show any weakness in front of her.
After a moment, she let out a breath, "Fine. If you want to see him, then feel free to do so, but only you. I don't want Ferid causing any more trouble."
"Aww, I'm hurt that you would say that," Ferid laughed jokingly. “I haven't caused you that much trouble, right?”
Krul gave him one final hard look, ignoring his question before gesturing you to follow her, and you obediently did so. You didn't bother to turn around to give Ferid one last look as he called out after you, “Have fun!”
Krul, in silence, led you to where Mika currently was, and you winced at the pitiful sight before you. He was kneeling on the floor, his head downcast as an air of defeat hung around him. Krul was generous enough to give the two of you time alone, but not without providing a warning that if you did anything suspicious, she would have your head.
You nodded in understanding before rushing over to Mika's side. You hesitantly called out to him, and he slowly brought his gaze upwards. "I'm sorry," were the first words that tumbled out of your mouth.
"Why are you apologizing?" his voice, as well as his body, shook. You furrowed your eyebrows, feeling your chest clench at the sight. He looked and sounded so vulnerable right now. "This is all my fault, even though you warned me many times."
"It's not your fault," you replied, feeling slightly guilty for the words you had once said to him just a few days ago. "You were just trying to protect your family."
"I wasn't strong enough..."
"Then just get stronger," you told him. You wanted to give him hope. This wasn't the same child whose company you've grown to enjoy. "There's still someone in your family who's still alive, isn't there? Become stronger for them. I... I will help you as much as I can, if you'd allow it."
"..." Mika remained quiet but nodded, which was still something, you wearily thought as you continued your attempts to console the poor child.
Years have passed since then, and since Mika had continuously refused to drink human blood, he continued to age. You watched his growth, and you couldn't hide your worry on how this was affecting the male's health. You kept on urging him to drink, but he would always roughly push the subject away.
It was currently evening, and it's been a while since Mika had anything to drink. His refusal to drink had started to take its toll on his body again. Mika was breathing heavily, leaning against the wall for support. There was nobody else in the area, much to the young man's relief. He wasn't sure what would happen in his current state.
"You look like you're in pain."
Mika slowly and painfully directed his gaze towards the owner of the voice, and his eyes narrowed slightly when they landed on your figure, standing just a fair distance away from him. It looked like you were just finishing up your patrol of the city and happened to stumble upon him. Mika's eyes never left your form as you walked towards the male and stopped just in front of him. You reached out to touch the blond, but he harshly swatted your hand away. His eyes saw the surprise and hurt quickly flash in your eyes, and he muttered out a pained apology.
"It's fine," you shrugged it off before shifting your weight to lean on the wall. "You should drink."
"I don't want to," he answered almost immediately.
"You're in pain," you stated matter-of-factually.
"I don't care!!" Mika yelled at you before bringing his gaze downwards and apologizing once more.
You didn't say anything and continued to look at the young man. It looked like he had more to say, so you remained quiet, waiting for him to speak. Mika continued, "I don't care if it hurts. It's better than becoming a blood-sucking monster like you all."
"Oh, so I'm a monster?" you asked, not bothering to hide the scorn in your voice, which inadvertently caused the blond to wince. "It's not like I asked to be like this, you know. I was turned against my own will, just like you, but despite all that, you still call me a monster. The absolute audacity you have..."
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean..." Mika became flustered. He knew of your situation; you had told him of it once the two of you started trusting each other, and he knew just how much of a touchy subject it was. You often tried to avoid talking about it, thinking that maybe one day you'll be able to forget that you were turned to a fearful creature all for the sake of being a sacrificial pawn in the end. The young vampire pressed his lips together in a firm line, afraid that he hurt the only person he could see as an ally in his screwed up world.
"Of course you didn't," you scoffed at him. You believed that he truly was sorry, but the spiteful words left your lips before you could stop them. In any case, you tried to dismiss the thoughts and situation. You decided that now was not the time for this. There were other pressing matters at hand. "...You need to drink blood."
"I don't want to drink human blood," Mika answered you.
"Then how about mine?" you offered your blood willingly. You gave a wry smile as you added, "since apparently I'm a monster."
Mika looked at you with a thoughtful gaze as he debated as to whether or not he should accept. He knew that drinking blood of a human would turn him to a full-fledged vampire, something he wanted to avoid, but he didn't know what would happen if he drank another vampire's blood. So far, he has only drank blood from Krul, and he was uncertain what would happen if he were to drink from anybody else.
But Mika couldn't deny just how much he wanted it. He didn't want to admit it, but he had grown very fond of you and the time spent together, and he often found himself wondering what your blood tasted like, only to push those troublesome thoughts away in the end. You continued to stare at the young man, your offer still standing.
Then, to your surprise, Mika clasped his hand around your wrist and thirstily pulled you towards him. It was so sudden, you didn't have enough time to react when you felt sharp fangs pierce your flesh, prompting you to let out a sharp hiss at the pain, but that pain was quickly replaced with pure bliss and ecstasy when you felt the blood leave your body. You only had your blood drank by a vampire once a long time ago that you've forgotten how it felt. You only knew the wonderful rush as the one taking the blood, so being on the receiving end this time felt oddly strange yet very pleasing.
Unconsciously, you wrapped your arms around the male's frame, and you tilted your head to the side, giving more room for the vampire to work with. You murmured soft encouragements in his ears, telling him he could drink as much as he'd like. If you were to die, you wouldn't have minded if it was by Mika's hand. He continued to suck your blood, eliciting a quiet moan from your lips despite your best efforts to suppress it. When your moan reached the young man's ears, Mika pulled you even closer towards his body and sunk his fangs in even deeper, causing you to exclaim softly.
After a moment, Mika pulled away, staggering slightly and leaving you to collapse on your knees, feeling extremely fatigued while Mika licked away the remaining blood on his lips, relishing your taste. He looked down at you with heated cheeks, and you glanced upwards with an unreadable expression on your features. Upon making eye contact, the male immediately cast his gaze elsewhere and covered his mouth with the back of his hand as he felt his cheeks flare.
"S-sorry," he stuttered out a muffled apology behind his hand. "...And thanks."
Not bothering to wait for your response, Mika had turned on his heel and left you alone. You could only stare at his retreating figure in silence as you regained your strength and stood up, and started walking away in the opposite direction. Your fingers lightly touched the tender area that Mika bit, and you smiled, figuring that he was more than welcome to consider you a monster now if it meant having him drink more of your blood.
