When the sun finally peaked through what was his home Rocky groaned as the light shined on his face. Rocky was a mixed breed dog with short gray fur with a darker patch of grey fur that was on his left eye. He was sorta a young inventor as he loved to build or fix machines. Unfortunately being a homeless mutt he didn't have access to tools or materials. The only thing he had in his ‘home’ was a few open cans of expired food he ate months ago but didn't wanna throw away. Oh right, food. Rocky forgot he was hungry but was quickly reminded when his stomach twisted and loudly groaned as it wanted substance. Sadly he didn't have the pleasure of someone to feed him so he had to find his own food through trash cans or stealing. He climbed out his makeshift home made out of rusted metal and cardboard. It wasn't perfect but it did the job of keeping him safe… sometimes. The only personal item he had was an old tattered baseball cap he found in the trash. It was blue and green which fit his dog head quite nicely. He made his way out the abandoned alley and to the streets of Adventure Bay. He didn't mind this town so much unlike the neighboring Foggy Bottom. Adventure Bay had plenty of spots for food, water, and scenic spots to relax at. Of course there was also the Paw Patrol. Rocky never met them face to face but he's seen them around and listened to town folk talk about them when he walked by. The times he sees them is on the beach when playing catch with a frisbee with a human boy. He saw a german shepherd, dalmatian, cockapoo, and chocolate lab.
He usually sits in the treeline and watches them. Rocky liked to study people so when he studied the Paw Patrol he picked up on a few things. The german shepherd is assertive but also kind and caring, the dalmatian was clumsy and always crashing, the cockapoo was sweet and energetic with a smile, and the chocolate lab was relaxed but energetic in its own special way.
On this day when Rocky was checking the garbage cans near the beach he wasn't expecting to be interacted with. “Hey, why are you digging in the twash?” someone asked him to make Rocky scramble out of the can and fall onto the sand. He backed away quickly from the voice as he bared his teeth instinctively. “Wow dude! Calm down no need to be angwy!” the chocolate lab said, holding their front paws up in surrender. Rocky realized who it was and instantly stopped his growl but he still was weary. His eyes wandered all around to see if maybe the others were with him but he seemed to be alone.
Rocky now realized he still never answered the question the lab asked him leaving an awkward silence. “I um w-was looking for something. I should get going” Rocky was quick to try and leave as he didn't want to have a conversation right now with the pup “oh well if you're going what's your name?” the lab asked with a tilted head. Rocky was already turning and walking away but stopped when asked the question “I um… should go sorry” Rocky then started to run away as far away from the lab. He ran as fast and far as he could before ending up behind the local cafe. He was more exhausted than he already was earlier. “Great, now I need to be more careful. Can't be caught” Rocky mumbled as he walked to the trash can next to the door. He climbed in and started digging through all the trash before finding some food. An old half eaten sandwich which Rocky took and gulfed down before walking away a bit happy that he ate. He ended back in the treeline next to the beach to rest as he stared out on the open beach. He was sorta used to the lifestyle of garbage can food, alleyway box for a home, and running away from people.
The key word was sorta as he wanted his old life back. A caring owner, food everyday from a bag, and someone he could call a friend. He closed his eyes to have his nap right in the tree shade. He curled up in himself and started to peacefully snore as he slept. As he slept the other pup he encountered was walking the beach. Zuma was sorta worried. He met a new pup in Adventure Bay who instantly ran away which seemed odd to him. He walked along the sandy beach hopping to maybe catch a glimpse of the mixed dog again. “I wondew where he went. I hope he is fine” Zuma said as he walked along the beach before the sun was setting. His puptag beeped as Ryder was calling “hey Zuma are you okay? Your dinner is still sitting in your bowl” Zuma sighed before answering “yeah im heading home. See you soon Wyder” he replied back as he ended the call before running back to the lookout. When he reached the bridge he looked back at the beach and sighed sadly before fully running back. Hopefully Zuma can find that pup again.
When Zuma got home he went to his food bowl and gulped down the delicious kibble before going up to Ryder who was sitting at the table with a computer open “hey Wyder can I ask you a question?” Zuma asked as he sat down at Ryder’s feet. “Hm? Sure what's up Zuma? Is everything okay?” Ryder asked, closing his laptop as he saw one of his pups walk over to him. “I was wondering if you knew of any other pups in Adventure Bay? I met this gray mixed pup digging through the twash earlier” Zuma said resting his head on Ryder’s lap which received him head scratches “hm a grey mixed pup? I don't think I've ever seen one before in Adventure Bay. you said they were digging through the trash?” Ryder asked as this was news to him. “Yea. I was walking along the beach and found him digging in a twash can for something.” Ryder hummed in response as he opened his laptop again and started searching for an animal that matched the description in the animal database. As the owner who deals with dogs that help saves lives he has access to a local animal database. “A pup doesn't exist in any active list with that description. Tell you what, Zuma. if you see him again try to talk with him more.” Ryder said, giving Zuma more head scratches. “Alwight Wyder. Thank you” Zuma gave Ryder a lick before running off to be with his friends. Now he has a small plan when he sees the mixed pup again.
The wind howled loudly through the trees which woke Rocky up from his long nap. His eyes cracked open as he uncurled from himself with a stretch. He yawned before standing up and looking at the sky. It was now dark out so he should get home “do I even consider it home?” he questioned as he started his trek back to his home. He was about to reach the street but the wind was really picking up. Enough to blow his hat off in the wind “hey! My hat!” he yelled into the wind as he started to chase it frantically. It finally got stuck in a tree so Rocky could grab it… if he climbed the tree of course. He sighed before digging his claws into the wood and pulling himself up. Even reaching the first branch knocked the wind straight out of him as he huffed. Thankfully the other branches he could jump to so one by one he jumped up the tree. The branch his hat was on wasn't exactly the strongest so he carefully walked along it and grabbed his hat before backing away. Unfortunately he couldn't make it as the branch started to crack before coming off.
The world seemed to slow down as Rocky felt himself fall with the branch. He saw the sky flash with lightning as the sinister crack was heard the instant his body hit the ground. His vision went black instantly making him wonder if he died or was knocked out from the fall. The wind howled louder against The Lookout’s windows. Ryder had all the pups gathered already in front of the tv “alright pups. Adventure Bay is getting hit by a pretty big storm so we need to make sure everyone is safe. Chase I need you to go to town and make sure people are safely inside” the tv showed a sorta cartoon example of what Chase needed to do “Chase is on the case!” he proudly stepped forward while slamming his paw on the ground. “Perfect. Marshall, you and I are going to check local spots to see if people are trapped or in need of help.” Ryder motioned to Marshall who stepped forward “I'm all fired up!” he said with a smile. “Zuma, Skye, head down to the docks and make sure all the ships are tied down. We don't want a ship to end up on land” Zuma slowly stepped forward “l-lets dive in!” he said with a smile. “All right! Paw Patrol is on a roll!” Ryder said before jumping down his pole to his ATV while the pups rode down the slide to their rescue vehicles.
The three teams drove off to their respective objectives while the storm raged harder. Zuma and Skye arrived at the docks and started to go around to the boats to make sure they were tied down until Cap'n Turbot came over in a rain coat “pups! Glad to see you. I am almost done with the boats but some need to be tied down still” Cap’n said motioning to the rocking boats. The two pups nodded and with the help of Cap’n the three got all the boats secured down “thanks pups. I'm going inside now so keep safe!” Cap’n said waving goodbye as he got into a shack to wait out the storm. Zuma and Skye got into their vehicles before going “im going to check on the beach side to see maybe if anything is washed ashore. Go help Wyder and the others” Zuma said to Skye over their puptag “alright got it Zuma!” she said before redirecting herself to town as Zuma went towards the beach.
His hovercraft hit the water as he started to patrol the rough sea and beach. If he was being honest he only wanted to try and find that mixed pup again. Unfortunately his search wasn't as fruitful as all found was some garbage that washed ashore but something caught his eye. Sitting barely near a treeline was a ball of gray fur. The same gray fur that was on the mixed pup’s body. Zuma definitely didn't panic as he rushed forward to the grey ball and climbed into the treeline “hey? Is that you from the twash can?”
