Chapter Text
Miguel O'Hara was your father, but not Earth 928 Miguel O'Hara. Your father was captain of your city's police force. Your father wasn't Spiderman, but you were. Well rather, you were Spider-folk. But still. You got bit by a radioactive spider last month, and help people now that you're getting used to your new abilities. You can shoot webs, scale walls, turn invisible, sense danger before it hits you, and you heal faster thanks to a fast metabolism, but that does mean you get hungrier quicker. You haven’t told your dad, how could you? He already had enough on his plate being captain and a single dad to a teenager. He loved you, he really did. But you didn't want to stress him out. It was sometimes difficult to hide injuries, but you managed.
You had just gotten out of school, your dad wouldn't be home for a few hours so you decided to patrol a bit in your suit, or rather, what you use as a suit. It's really just a hoodie he doesn't know you have over your school uniform with a mask and goggles to cover your face. You hear a loud crash and swing around the corner to investigate. There you see the green goblin, or at least you think it is. It doesn't really look like your green goblin.
“Norman?” You mutter, swinging into the alley cautiously. The Green Goblin turns around
“Okay, definitely not.” You think out loud. He goes to lunge at you, and just as you're swinging up to dodge, he starts glitching, a lot.
“Whoa, what the hell?” You whisper, landing in front of him. He lunges again, but not at you. He starts running out of the ally, clearly disoriented. You're spidey senses still go off though. You follow him. Your green goblin is causing chaos now too, two Green goblins?! Wasn't one enough? You take a breath and start trying to deal with the situation. You didn't even know what they were doing this time. But you heard police sirens, and your father coming out of his cop car.
“We got two Green Goblins in the Sunfelt shopping mall, calling all units.” He says into his radio.
“Be on the lookout for the Spider.” He adds. You couldn't let him get hurt. Wait, MJ said she was coming here after school to get a dress for the upcoming end of year formal. Shit. You swing past your father, he obviously doesn't recognize you as you web him to his car.
“Sorry, Cap!” You call out, making your voice deeper as you swing into the mall.
“Somebody get them!” You heard him call out. But the mall was chaos, you couldn't focus on that. Both Green Goblins were wreaking havoc. You focus on getting civilians out safely first. You web everyone up and out of the building, you doubt that it'll hold long. Once you're pretty sure everyone's out, you try to trap the Green Goblins. You hear a loud static-y sound from behind you, and it feels like there's something pulling you backwards. You look behind you, it's a glowing orange and yellow portal.
“What the fuck…?” You mutter to yourself as you glance between the portal and the villains. Your father steps out, but not your father. This one is bulkier, in a skin tight navy suit with a spider on it. And he has more scars…and his expression looked harder than normal. Behind him, another person steps into view, a girl in a white suit with pink, black, and teal accents.
“Just because Jessica made me bring you, doesn't mean you're not still on thin ice.” Your father (maybe?) Says to the girl. He then looks down at you with indifferent eyes, this wasn't your father.
“I have so many questions.” You mutter under your breath and the girl snorts. Miguel shoots her a glare.
“Sorry, sorry. I have bad comedic timing.” She chuckles.
“Gwen, explain to the kid why we're here then help, I'll handle the anomaly.” He says to the girl who you presume is named Gwen. She nods and turns to you as the other guy focuses in on the extra Green goblin.
“This is gonna sound crazy. But me and him are from different dimensions. A little while ago a hole got torn in the multiverse and now people from other dimensions are getting sent to one's one's they're not supposed to be in. We're called Spider Society.” Gwen explains quickly. So that's why that guy looked like my dad, was he just a counterpart? Maybe I'd be able to ask later.
“So you need to capture the extra Norman and send him back to where he's supposed to be?” You clarify . She nods.
“If you don't mind helping, we should probably do that now.” you nod. She swings off to help the other Miguel with the Green Goblin and you follow. You start shooting webs at your Green Goblin and structural points in the building to keep it up. The fight feels like it goes on for hours, but it can't be that long.
You hear a scream, a large steel beam is falling on a little girl. You're about to swing in, but your father tackles the girl out of the way. The other Miguel does a double take at your father, it must be weird to see your counterpart. You swing towards them because your dad's leg got caught under the beam. The child runs and gets out to safety. But the other Green Goblin is there. Before you can even blink, your father is bleeding out on the ground, trapped under a beam.
“Papá!” You scream, not caring about your secret identity at that moment. Both Miguel's turn their heads to look at you. You rush over to him and pull your hoodie off. Your father's eyes widen in recognition. But you don't care, you press your hoodie to the bleeding, desperately hoping to slow it to get him help. You can faintly hear someone say
“Cannon event in progress.” But you don't pay attention to it.
“Mija?” Your father whispers, voice hoarse with barely hidden pain.
“Nononono, I can fix this, please let me fix this.” You mumble to yourself, eyes wide in panic. His eyes soften, but still pained. I can't believe my kid has been Spider-folk all this time. He thinks to himself as his arm grazes your cheek, only to start pulling your mask down to see you properly.
“You're gonna do great things, kiddo…Stay gold for me, kay?” He murmurs.
“Don't fucking say that like you're gonna die!” You all but sob, you couldn't lose him. He was all you had left.
“Language, Mijo.” He whispers, a hint of a smile on his face.
“No! No! Let me fix this!” You cry out, moving your fingers to his pulse point on his neck. Tears are rolling down your cheeks. His hand that had been on your cheek moves to pull your hand off him for him to hold it. He didn't want you to feel the moment his heart stops beating.
“Please, I can't lose you!” You sob.
“You'll be okay, kid. It's alright.” He murmurs. But it's not gonna be okay, not without him. His thumb brushes your knuckles and his eyes flutter shut.
“Papá? Papá, open your eyes!” No response. His hand falls limp from where it had been holding yours. And your super hearing confirms your fear, he's gone. Really gone. You let out a choked sob then your head falls forward and you break down crying on him. You didn't care about the Green Goblins, not after this. There's sound all around you. You don't pay attention to it.
“Lyla, what kind of family does this kid have?”
“It seems your counterpart was her only family, sir.”
“Miguel, you can't tell me you're gonna leave her here. That was two cannon events as one.”
“I know, Gwen.”
You're vaguely aware of talking near you, you tune it out. You cry until your body can't, you're only vaguely aware of being lifted up.
“Lyla, make sure no one does anything with the kid's home until they can come back.” You hear in the background. You don't have the energy to care whether you can trust the person holding you. You just lost your main reason for living anyway. You fall asleep wherever you are.
